  1. They should sit Grisham against pitchers that throw strikes-now hitting 143

At least he’s still elite defensively. Small sample Field run value 23rd percentile, range 29th percentile, arm 16th percentile, OAA -1. Small sample but on top of last year really worrisome.

Best 22 Million Hal spent since Joshy.

  2. They’ll turn it around….maybe. Grisham off a career and declining defensively? Jazz yes. Wells just isn’t good. Escarra is terrible. MacMahon isn’t good. Grichuk probably sucks but the jury’s out. Phenom?I don’t think Grisham will hit 143 but 200, 10/15 home runs is a possibility.

Who can you have confidence about?

    1. Judge, Belli, Grisham, and Stanton are all sucking right now. As we have seen, you only need a few guys in a row to hit well to score runs. They have had just Rice and that’s IT.

    2. Stanton’s been ok, I have no confidence in Grisham, Judge will come around, Bellinger has had a lot of bad years-the Dodgers released him

  3. I won’t hold that one against JC but he’s 1-23 on throwing runners out and can’t hit. JC and Gri hulk hitting back to back 1-21 this season.

    1. Tanner Swanson thought that they were getting unreasonably lucky early on, and now we’re seeing the other side of that. It’s rough. All a pitch needs to do is NICK the outside corner, dudes. It often happens.

  4. This series has been about the offense (and Fried and Schlittler choking to a lesser degree, and Gil not being ready), but I think it’s important to note that you can’t underestimate the vagaries of happening to face a team when one of their hitters is hot as fuck. Chandler Simpson is NOT this good, but he’s been 1990 Barry Bonds this series.

It’s like the Blue Jays series last year where Springer and Barger were 2001 Barry Bonds and 1942 Ted Williams against the Yankees.

    1. The pen has been fine. They’re just constantly in a position where one or two runs means no chance at a victory because of the terrible offense.

  5. They are going to lose every one-run game and never use Goldy ever. It’s fucking maddening.

How the fuck do you let McMahon hit there?!

WHY IS GOLDY ON THE TEAM IF HE IS NEVER GOING TO PINCH HIT?!

    1. Boone has regressed as a manager, and that is quite the achievement to have accomplished.

    1. The ONE thing that makes this somewhat bearable is that SO MANY TEAMS are struggling even worse than the Yankees, like the Mets, the Tigers, the Cubs, the Mariners, the Blue Jays, the Red Sox, and the Astros.

Bryan Abreu has had the most insane contract year season ever.

  6. “We got a number of guys we gotta get going. We’re gonna hit, there’s no doubt in my mind. We’ll keep at it and trust this group.”

    1. Famous last words. McMahon, as an example, never had a season with an OPS + above 98, and he played in Colorado. What’s to trust in him?

    2. I get that, but 80 OPS+ versus, what, like, -50 OPS+ is still a MASSIVE difference.

Similarly, someone could say, “I bet Randall Grichuk and JC Escarra are going to be bad hitters,” and no one would fight too much on them, but “I bet Randall Grichuk and JC Escarra will never get a single hit” is still a lot, ya know?

  7. I need to change my name to “not such a big fan”. Since 1971 and Horace Clarke I lived and died with the Yankees. I only tuned out twice – in middle of game 5 of the 2004 ALCS when torre mismanaged a WS appearance into the worst choke ever; and now. I have not yet watched an inning because I’ve decided I can’t care more about the team than the owner and GM do. Allowing Boone to stay on was an idiotic decision after 2020 (let’s pinch hit Mike Ford instead of Clint Frazier) and has gotten more idiotic with each passing season. Wake me up when he’s gone; otherwise this is just a waste of time.

    1. Amen, brother. I’ve posted this before, but the Yankees keeping Boone is about as close to trying to fail as possible without actually throwing games. I’ve started shifting my interest slowly over to the Dodgers because, while I originally hated them, I at least respect how they run the team. They are the opposite of the Yankees right now. (Other than the heaping loads of money they both rake in.)

Also, Ohtani is just super fun to watch. Judge is too, but at least Ohtani has an actual team to support him.

  8. So glad I missed this game (not even counting HOW I missed it).
Yes, good hitters are slumping, and even BAD hitters are slumping.
But there are just too many bad hitters.

  9. I turned the game off because I knew how it was going to end.

While there have been some spectacularly bad hitters of previous Yankee teams … Cabbie and McMahon are really putting on a clinic and Jazz and Trent look like they’ve never played a game before.
