Fuck these losers. Enjoy the second Wild Card.
Woohoo! Time for the new and improved, totally revamped line-up to swing into action!
If you thought the outfield was bad, wait till Boone decides to platoon Ramos with Jones instead of with Grisham. Then you’ve got Ramos, Grisham, and Dominguez. Cole is gonna blow a gasket.
Whoops, Cam gave up two runs. Game over, these Yankees won’t outscore that.
Cam doesn’t want to win the Cy Young, I guess.
So now the best we can hope for is a tie.
There is no joy in Mudville.
To follow up the shitty trade deadline with Schlittler shitting up the joint really IS depressing.
If you can’t put away this dude, then what are you even doing?
Absolutely no idea how Herrera didn’t get to third there.
The worst are the hits after multiple pitches thrown.
Nice double play by Jazz, at least.
What a horrible, terrible 30-pitch first inning by Cam. Just awful
When things go wrong, he just looks like a whiny little bitch. It’s easy to forget he’s still so young.
I’m afraid you nailed it. He needs to man up.
Fuck, Grisham gave that a ride.
Rice and Garcia did not.
He looks so crazy frustrated. It’s the 2nd inning. What’s with him?
He’s pissed at Cashman’s inability to
land a catchertrade him to a contender.FFS, sixty-one pitches in 2-innings.
We don’t need another head case starting pitcher, and Cam appears to be morphing into one.
Six up, six down, your usual Yankees offense.
Like clockwork. The fifth law of thermodynamics.
An already overburdened bullpen, and Cam pulls out this lousy start.
How many bad games has Cam had? How many games has the offense not been bad? Three runs should not feel insurmountable but it does. I’m giving Cam a pass. I’m putting it squarely on the ‘hitters.’
What would it take for Lombard to get a shot? What would it take for Rowson to get fired?
“What would it take for Rowson to get fired?”
He’s only a hitting coach. Another few years and he could be fired.
What would it take to get Boone fired? A change in ownership.
Grisham last 15 games 082. Jasson 228. Jazz 218. Mac 156. Wells 226.
Five guys in one lineup, all in deep slumps.
That was probably the worst swing I’ve ever seen Grisham take. Holy shit that was bad.
And after having a nice at-bat to get it to 3-2. Blew him away with a mediocre splitter right down the middle.
As noted, all of these guys are all in deep, deep slumps at the same fucking time. It is insanity.
If they’re all in a slump at the same time
This pitcher LOOKS like a real Cardinals pitcher.
From the 40s or something.
“See Tim Hill up in the Yankee pen…
…now a living, breathing reminder of the FO’s failure to get even a single reliever to help the bullpen, to go with his failure to get anything at all to help at catcher.”
There goes the Pythag
Well, it was a nice night for a ballgame, then the game started.
Rafaela Boston 2023 to now OPS 85 95 116
Abreu 781 786 757
phenom 666 657 663 646
Wells 718 712 537
Jason 617 719 653
Here’s an interesting idea. Could Garcia play right field? He should have the arm for it, right?
Stanton sounds like he might actually return soon. Don’t want to lose Garcia and Goldy in the lineup. I figure you start resting Rice against lefties.
Best arguments to not bring up Lombard-Boone and Rowson
If you care about the team, you probably try it.
If you care about Lombard, you avoid it at all costs.
I remember games where the Yankees were down 6, 7, 8 runs and came back. That was when the Yankees were still a Premier League team.
Do I really want to lose Lalane on a team that is hoping to get a wild card? Much more likely that the pitching is going to decline, but still be good, than the hitting will come to life.
lombard isn’t going to rescue the yankees until the 15th to maintain his roy eligibility.
cashrules
He’s not going to rescue the team but he might relieve the tedium.
If you call him up and send Volpe down, you can do some interesting platoons. Lombard plays everyday, but plays third against lefties and short against righties. Cabby plays short against lefties. Maybe you let Garcia play second against lefties.
The Yankees went to the World Series with Gleyber shitting up the joint at second, I think they can live with Garcia shitting up the joint against lefties at second.
Wells Coming to life?
Certainly nice to see him and Grisham go back to back. They really should have creamed McGreevy.
Jasson needs to have his brakes checked.
Why are you stealing down three?!
They really like to just give away outs.
why is posada teaching baserunning on the farm?
I reserve the right to change my mind based on future results, but as of right now, holy shit what a frustrating game!
Four fucking home runs in a loss?!
Imagine if Rice didn’t suck now.
What’s going on?
Best trade ever!!!
What’s going on? Space and time are imploding.
The Cardinals taking out a righty and bringing in another righty to face Garcia was nice!
i couldn’t remember the last time they scored three!
It can never be easy. No idea why Yarbs was still in.
NOW you bring Chivilli in.
They wanted Yarbs to face the RHB
If the ball hit Grisham in the shins wasn’t it then catchable. A tough catch but catchable.
Nope, we don’t need any relief help.
The outfield is going to stink even worse when Boone decides that Ramos should platoon with Jones.
I know Chivilli was bad, but how you don’t start the inning with him is beyond me.
Chivilli has been so good that you can’t get on him too much. Just a shitty night overall, like I noted earlier. Just a very frustrating game.
This game is all on Cam for being dogshit, but even there, he’s been so good it is hard to be too mad at him.
Sadly, you have to just let Chivilli eat this.
The real mistake was not using Yarbs earlier. He should have eaten innings 4-6.
can lightning strike twice?
https://www.espn.com/mlb/recap?gameId=401696553
It is eerily similar.
This sucks much less than that, though.
The analogy fails because Cashman didn’t land any pitchers this year.
Second game out of three the pen gave it away.
Today is pretty much opposite day, right? Schlittler and Chivilli get rocked, Wells/McMahon/Grisham/Cabby all homer.
So we can infer that Garcia has hit his first and last homer in pinstripes.
Your logic is sound.
I feel bad for Chivilli. He clearly didnt have it. Under almost any other scenario, you don’t leave him in there, but this was a rare instance when you had to.
The pen was overachieving for a while. Can’t keep expecting to win one run games tho this was a different kind of one run game.
Cam gave up 4, the pen 9
It was less the runs, and more the lack of length. They didn’t score again, of course, but 9-7 is still a game, 13-7 isn’t, and they couldn’t pull Chivilli because they had to cover Cam’s lack of innings.
But yes, Yarbs not giving up a leadoff triple would have helped, as well.
Oh well, just a tough loss in terms of not having the top relievers available. Gotta be happy about the home runs.
Rays ahead 7-0 in the 3rd.
At least Jazz is consistent.
217/687
Hey Hal, if you’re looking to save money on a GM, I’ll work for a tenth of Cashman’s salary. Guarantee you I can bring in at least as many World Series championships as he has since 2010.
This is all on Cam and his awful performance.
Nothing on Hill or Angel? He’s entitled to an occasional stinker. It’s his second year and he’s been great.
He had a bad one against the Dodgers two weeks ago. Going just three innings tonight set the wheels in motion.
It’s on Cam and Chivilli, but they’ve both been so good that I can’t complain too much, especially because with guys with changeups, when they don’t have it, they REALLY don’t have it (we saw that with Kahnle a lot). But they couldn’t take him out. So I feel bad for him, and I don’t feel bad for Cam at all. He just sucked. But, again, Cam is so great I can’t complain too much.
MLBTR says Lombard is replacing phenom, Ramos is replacing Martian, and Chivilli is being replaced by – oops, Cashman forgot to acquire a reliever, but they’re sending Chivilli down anyway.
They cite Curry on Lombard’s promotion, but they don’t provide a citation on the demotions.
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2026/08/yankees-to-promote-george-lombard-jr.html
Wow brave move. Rosario has more to contribute than phenom. Jasson had every chance, 200 ABs with a 650 OPS. The right move nonetheless I think second wild card is this team’s ceiling. Then maybe if everybody gets healthy they might get lucky.

The first times this was broached. Speaking to reporters minutes after Monday’s trade deadline passed, New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said he remains hopeful Aaron Judge will return from the stress fracture in his right first rib this season but didn’t rule out the possibility that the star slugger may not.
I think you have to allow for the possibility. How could you NOT?
Sure they just never mentioned it. I’d make it the favorite.
So disappointing that both phenom and Dominguez turned out to be busts. Jasson is a year and a half younger than phenom, and had less experience, so there hope. I was hoping they could move phenom.
Jasson and Arias two highly touted Dominican prospects. Arias is still in AA.
Arias is in A+.
The Yankees success with IFA is among the worst in all MLB.
Chivilli is probably only down until he can come right back up. I imagine Yerry gets called up. Lombard needed to be added to the 40-man, right? They DID open up a 40-man spot.
Okay, so the bench is now:
Cabby
Goldy
Sanchez (why not send him down for Escarra?)
Rosario
So I guess this means the lineups are, against righties:
Grisham CF (L)
Rice DH (L)
Garcia 1B (L)
Jones RF (L)
Ramos LF (R)
Jazz 2B (L)
Lombard SS (R)
McMahon 3B (L)
Wells C (L)
and against lefties…
Goldschmidt 1B (R)
Rice DH (L)
Ramos LF (R)
Rosario 3B (R)
Jones CF (L)
Garcia 2B (L)
Caballero RF (R)
Lombard SS (R)
Sanchez C (R)
With Lombard moving up the lineup depending on how he does.
That all make sense?
It could also mean Cabby at 2d, and Garcia to the bench against lefties (and starting Grisham against lefties), but I don’t like that.
Katie S George Lombard Jr. in AAA since return from injury:
14 Games
65 PA
.377/.477/.604
10 BB / 15K
and 997 June OPS before injury
Garcia Jr is the 2nd player to hit a go-ahead HR in the 7th inning or later in his first game as a Yankee.
The other was Alex Johnson on September 10, 1974
Man, and we all remember how THAT worked out!
…umm, how DID that work out, anyway?
lol I remember. 1974 looked like the year we’d break thru (hadn’t won anything in 10 years) and when they got Johnson who hit a HR in his first game I thought “this is it!” Alas we finished 2 games out. Had there been a wild card we’d have made the playoffs. Elliot Maddox and Craig nettles were awesome but sadly Bobby Murcer wasn’t. And was then traded for Bobby bonds who was later traded for Mickey rivers and Ed Figueroa who were key figures in the 1976 WS team… ahhh good memories from my pre-teen years.
Cool, thanks. I don’t remember that name at all, for some reason!
You think in the minors they’ll finally bother to teach Jasson how to slide.
How to slide, how to bunt, and all those many things a professional ballplayer should know from the very beginning.
Error 429 Too many requests. Cant log on any browser 30:minutes. Can ONLY log on 5G.
Got that, too.
VPN helped, but it was annoying.
Working next day WiFi
How do you hit 5 HRs and only score 7 runs? The Cashman plan: SLG at the expense of OBP.
I’ve heard many times: “You’re not going to get beat giving up solo home runs.” By that logic, you’re not going to win hitting only solo home runs. But that’s the Yankee offensive approach, and has been for about 15 years.
100%- over the season we are 25th in OBP, for the last 30 days we are dead last. Boone and Rowson have to share the blame for that. Traditionally Yankees were always a strong OBP team.
NY Post phenom taking reps at 2b
And Jazz is taking reps where, exactly?
I assume we’re all excited to see how the Yankees will ruin Lombard
Sadly. He will get here, sit on the bench, get a few starts, won’t hit immediately, back to the bench…Boone has been here 9 years and not a single player has developed; most have regressed. So sadly I have no hope unless Boone gets axed.
(Ok Judge is an exception but he’s pretty clear that he has his own coaches.)
That’s not quite fair. Judge has developed, obviously. Rice, Cam…
But yes, the list of failures is startling.
Rice has been his own coach
I think he’ll play but Boone and Rowson will just tinker a bit.
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!
Error 429 has happened several times in the past few weeks. I used Cloudflare to work around that on my laptop. Seems like that error blocks certain ISP addresses.
time to swap jones and grisham
You’re saying our $22m CF isn’t good in CF?
Mitch Garver cut by Seattle. He’s a terrible defensive catcher, but he has to be a better righthanded option than Sanchez.
i wonder if they kicked the tires on Kirk, he’s low key awesome
Why would he be (have been) available?
Trent Grisham (L) CF
Ben Rice (L) DH
Luis García Jr. (L) 1B
Heliot Ramos (R) LF
Spencer Jones (L) RF
Jazz Chisholm Jr. (L) 2B
Ryan McMahon (L) 3B
George Lombard Jr. (R) SS
Austin Wells (L) C
Good timing to have all of Ramos, Garcia and Lombard in the line-up – to keep us here.
Last night would have been an easy moment to spend gametime doing something more productive.
I’d like to see Lombard lead off against LHPs
Daddy’s home.
Welcome, JL.
Greetings, kind sir. I look forward to the 2027 season in all its glory
LOL pretty much.
I see you guys splurged. Looks nice, not as homey (and clicky) as the last place, but I’m sure it’ll be fine.
