  2. If you thought the outfield was bad, wait till Boone decides to platoon Ramos with Jones instead of with Grisham. Then you’ve got Ramos, Grisham, and Dominguez. Cole is gonna blow a gasket.

  12. How many bad games has Cam had? How many games has the offense not been bad? Three runs should not feel insurmountable but it does. I’m giving Cam a pass. I’m putting it squarely on the ‘hitters.’

      As noted, all of these guys are all in deep, deep slumps at the same fucking time. It is insanity.

    1. Here’s an interesting idea. Could Garcia play right field? He should have the arm for it, right?

      Stanton sounds like he might actually return soon. Don’t want to lose Garcia and Goldy in the lineup. I figure you start resting Rice against lefties.

    1. If you care about the team, you probably try it.
      If you care about Lombard, you avoid it at all costs.

  21. Do I really want to lose Lalane on a team that is hoping to get a wild card? Much more likely that the pitching is going to decline, but still be good, than the hitting will come to life.

    2. If you call him up and send Volpe down, you can do some interesting platoons. Lombard plays everyday, but plays third against lefties and short against righties. Cabby plays short against lefties. Maybe you let Garcia play second against lefties.

    3. The Yankees went to the World Series with Gleyber shitting up the joint at second, I think they can live with Garcia shitting up the joint against lefties at second.

  46. Today is pretty much opposite day, right? Schlittler and Chivilli get rocked, Wells/McMahon/Grisham/Cabby all homer.

    So we can infer that Garcia has hit his first and last homer in pinstripes.

  48. The pen was overachieving for a while. Can’t keep expecting to win one run games tho this was a different kind of one run game.
    Cam gave up 4, the pen 9

    1. It was less the runs, and more the lack of length. They didn’t score again, of course, but 9-7 is still a game, 13-7 isn’t, and they couldn’t pull Chivilli because they had to cover Cam’s lack of innings.

      But yes, Yarbs not giving up a leadoff triple would have helped, as well.

      Oh well, just a tough loss in terms of not having the top relievers available. Gotta be happy about the home runs.

  51. Hey Hal, if you’re looking to save money on a GM, I’ll work for a tenth of Cashman’s salary. Guarantee you I can bring in at least as many World Series championships as he has since 2010.

    1. Nothing on Hill or Angel? He’s entitled to an occasional stinker. It’s his second year and he’s been great.

    2. He had a bad one against the Dodgers two weeks ago. Going just three innings tonight set the wheels in motion.

It’s on Cam and Chivilli, but they’ve both been so good that I can’t complain too much, especially because with guys with changeups, when they don’t have it, they REALLY don’t have it (we saw that with Kahnle a lot). But they couldn’t take him out. So I feel bad for him, and I don’t feel bad for Cam at all. He just sucked. But, again, Cam is so great I can’t complain too much.

    1. Wow brave move. Rosario has more to contribute than phenom. Jasson had every chance, 200 ABs with a 650 OPS. The right move nonetheless I think second wild card is this team’s ceiling. Then maybe if everybody gets healthy they might get lucky.

  56. So disappointing that both phenom and Dominguez turned out to be busts. Jasson is a year and a half younger than phenom, and had less experience, so there hope. I was hoping they could move phenom.

    2. lol I remember. 1974 looked like the year we’d break thru (hadn’t won anything in 10 years) and when they got Johnson who hit a HR in his first game I thought “this is it!” Alas we finished 2 games out. Had there been a wild card we’d have made the playoffs. Elliot Maddox and Craig nettles were awesome but sadly Bobby Murcer wasn’t. And was then traded for Bobby bonds who was later traded for Mickey rivers and Ed Figueroa who were key figures in the 1976 WS team… ahhh good memories from my pre-teen years.

  63. How do you hit 5 HRs and only score 7 runs? The Cashman plan: SLG at the expense of OBP.
    I’ve heard many times: “You’re not going to get beat giving up solo home runs.” By that logic, you’re not going to win hitting only solo home runs. But that’s the Yankee offensive approach, and has been for about 15 years.

  64. 100%- over the season we are 25th in OBP, for the last 30 days we are dead last. Boone and Rowson have to share the blame for that. Traditionally Yankees were always a strong OBP team.

    1. Sadly. He will get here, sit on the bench, get a few starts, won’t hit immediately, back to the bench…Boone has been here 9 years and not a single player has developed; most have regressed. So sadly I have no hope unless Boone gets axed.
      (Ok Judge is an exception but he’s pretty clear that he has his own coaches.)

    2. That’s not quite fair. Judge has developed, obviously. Rice, Cam…
      But yes, the list of failures is startling.

  68. Error 429 has happened several times in the past few weeks. I used Cloudflare to work around that on my laptop. Seems like that error blocks certain ISP addresses.
