I still can’t believe Angel Chivilli sucked THAT badly. That would have been such a cool win. But their response by reshaping the lineup dramatically is really interesting.
Hopefully Weathers doesn’t suck!
Not going to say “high run scoring environment.”
Oh… damn.
Let’s hope George’s father taught him how to hit and can quickly fix any of the bad habits he learned in the Yankees’ farm system. Or else we’ll be here in two years calling for the promotion of Dax Kilby while Cashman explains why there was no need to match the Red Sox offer for Bobby Witt Jr.
The headline article text on MLB.com will be truly cringeworthy for you guys.
Fair warning.
They did not.
Kinda sad Lalane was traded. Outside of rampant injury issues, he appears to have really good stuff.
Yeah, he was very interesting, but even the other day when I talked about how hyped I was about him, I was thinking of him as more of a trade asset. I just wanted someone better than Heliot freakin’ Ramos for him.
Yeah that’s the problem. Unless Judge is 100% coming back this is not a championship team so I’m not in favor of surrendering prospects for Heliot.
I agree. The season hinges on Judge returning. It may simply have been that the outlook is somewhat bleak/unclear. If so, not going nuts at the deadline was the right move.
Lalane was a great prospect to trade if simply bc of his injury history. I just like his numbers is all.
Very happy they didn’t trade Dax. I think he’s better than Lombard.
LOMBARD!!
I mean no disrespect to Volpe or Cabby, but neither of them would have had any chance at that play. That’s just an UNUSUALLY good play.
Credible effort in the field by this kid
Does phenom even get one on that?
Maaaaaaaaaaaybe he gets the guy at first. Maaaaaaaaaaybe. Same with Cabby, though. That’s an unusually good play.
The only way Jazz can do anything is if no one is on base. But I’ll take it!
Rice is hitting under 240 in his last 30 games; he does have nine HRs in that time, though.
He is in SUCH a funk.
A better bunt than any Yankee all season.
One run will not win this game.
While true, it’s just the top of the third.
Lombard Jrs mom a bleeding heart liberal northern agitator.
That was his grandmother, right (unless his mom is, too)?
yeah i missed what they were saying about her, she got arrested with bernie or something?
Grandma of course. Arrested 10 times.
Bosox up 6-0 already.
Hopefully the Yankees can catch up to the Rays for the first Wild Card behind the first place Red Sox.
The Yankee ceiling is second wild card. Down six on the Rays, up six on Cleveland, 7 on The Twinkies for the third wild card.
Fits right in with a weak groundout.
yeah but at least he put his head down and ran out of the box
imagine if wells and jazz didn’t suck
Trying.
Hard.
I was calling Rice an idiot for that challenge, but it was me, in fact, who was stupid.
God, I already love Garcia so much. Just let him play second against lefties.
Ramos made up for Rice’s challenge with a dumber challenge of his own. It’s the third inning and it’s the first pitch of the at-bat, you idiot!
Horrible
Ramos fitting right in.
No out contact play?
Just awful baseball.
Chisholm with men ON, ruh roh.
Same old team
In the car listening on thr radio. Contact play – Susan W says “well it’s worked once this year, but it’s August”. Funny!
Man on 3rd no out and no runs. Worst managed team I’ve ever heard. I’d say seen but I haven’t watched this year. Because my heart health is more important than the Yankees.
Any of you math nerd have the stats on the Yanks getting thrown out at home on the contact play? Seems like it’s happened dozens of times over the past few seasons.
I’m so happy.
George fucking Lombard Jr.
I was about to say Volpe’s career OPS 650 points higher than Lombard’s. Never mind?
It would be hilarious if he stays ahead of 650 OPS from here on out (he probably won’t, but that’d be funny as fuck).
Storybook.
True Yankee Moment.
That was nice.
Man, Weathers would be incredible in the pen. Funky-ish delivery, max effort, would possibly play up. Either way, when Rodon comes back Weathers or Warren to the pen which should markedly improve the current BP situation.
Walking Wetherholt on 4-pitches with two outs, gah.
Grisham is such a fucking bum
Stupid pitching 101, fall behind and have to throw a strike down the middle.
Great timeout by Fermin. It clearly fucked with Weathers.
This could end bad
Smoked that right at Heliot
Whew!
It’s fascinating watching these guys. Blake clearly has lessons ingrained in their head, but then you see them get rattled, and all the lessons go out the window. You can see it happen in real time. All the control goes by the wayside, and he’s just wasting pitches hoping he’ll get a swing.
Glad he got out of it, of course.
Can’t pimp outs, dude.
Three hits thru six
Why the fuck didn’t he throw a fork ball with two strikes?
He got the out, but he needed a great play by McMahon to get it
Headrick here seems major over managing.
great play at first
He’s looked so good at first that I find it hard to believe he can’t fake second.
some people can’t even fake a first 😒
Very true! But I mean, the dude played second for YEARS. He can’t play second against lefties when Stanton returns?
Great PH by Goldy.
That’s the hardest Goldy has hit a ball in weeks and it’s a inning ending double play and now Sanchez is in the game. FUCK.
lol
Having Sanchez on the team is so annoying because you have to pinch hit for Wells there, but it fucks them by having to put Sanchez in there
sanchez is the only yankee you hate more than me lol
What the fuck, Headrick?! The number nine hitter with a man on first?!
First two hitters on base for the Cards.
Okay, to be fair, I would fucking kill Volpe over a fuckup that bad. That was soooo bad. Simply unacceptable from a professional baseball player.
But it all worked out!
Brian, what was this play? I couldn’t follow the game live. Did Lombard screw something up?
First and second, no out, batter hits a hard groundball to Headrick, who tries to start a double play, but Lombard slips and falls down and thus no one is covering second, so Headrick had to go to first. So instead of at WORST, first and third and one out, and at best a runner at third with two outs, it was second and third with one out.
Oof. But, devil’s advocate, maybe it was his way of preventing Headrick from making an errant throw into center field? After all, such foresight on the part of a legendary Yankees shortstop might have saved a WS title 25 years ago.
That was strike 3.
Had to throw another shutout to win.
Is Error 429 at it again?
I get it, too (but I’m able to get into the comments from the backend that you all can’t). I imagine my hosting company just throttles the traffic. I’ll give them an email, but I bet the reason is that, and I don’t know if there is a solution to “We throttle you when there’s too much of a load on the server.”
I got in thru 5G last night. No problem today.
Watch the first six, watch a show. FF thru the last 3. Survived a line drive, a Cruz meltdown and WOE. If phenom comes back up Lombard can move to 2b and 3b. What an infield that would be.
If Lombard can be half as good as Zealous Wheeler I’ll be thrilled.
Rays, of course, tie their game in Colorado with two runs in the ninth.
Going to extras in Colorado and, of course, fucking Simpson leads off the 10th for the Rays, so he’ll probably bunt for a base hit and move the go-ahead run to third with no outs.
He grounded out to 2nd, so a runner on third and one out.
The Rockies somehow got out of it without allowing a run. Okay, can Carrigg bunt?
Intentionally walking Carrigg. Fascinating.
Nice to know SOME teams know how to sacrifice bunt!
Gotta walk Goodman to load the bases, right?
I would think so.
shocking that Goodman wasn’t a Yankee with that choking at-bat in the 10th.
👍🏻
Fucking shitty Rockies. TJ Rumsfeld remembered his time as a Yankee by choking.
Diaz and Aranda due up in the 11th. The Rays are obviously winning this shit.
The wild pitch to put the Rays up 8-7 in the 11th didn’t kill me because Diaz was obviously going to drive him in either way.
Yandy double. Okay, that’s enough of this game. I’ll just be happy with the Yankees win.
Yankees were 0 for July on Prime Video, so I’m not looking forward to Wednesday’s game.
Does the Rays game matter? Boston’s going to the Series. Rafaela and Abreu shining. Volpe and Jasson in the minors, Wells hitting 166.
It matters who has home field in the Wild Card series between them and the Yankees.
It matters if Judge comes back by like the beginning of September. Otherwise I don’t see this team going far.
It would be ironic if the biggest deadline move was just calling up Lombard.
