Joining the game in progress…
Bout time Judge contributed
When he and Stanton connect, they CONNECT.
Man, a lot of these Yankee starters don’t seem to know how to handle success.
A deluge bursts forth from the Trevi fountain!
sei in fuoco
Please tell me that really was the call!
Sterling’s not on the broadcast today, but I read that his call for Trevino is simply “Ole, Jose”. (It’s been a while, and I had to look it up.) https://moiderersrow.com/the-ultimate-list-of-john-sterlings-home-run-calls/
oh good god, no. cortes day…
Lots of 1-2 and 0-2 counts.
I’ll keep saying it – he’s gonna be nasty.
Holy cannole.
Soto may have just vaulted himself into “favorite players” territory. Who does that in 2024?!
I got a bad feeling about this
Cortes doesn’t tend to give up homers, so you’d think that giving up a leadoff homer to the #9 hitter would make Boone think, “Maybe I should pull him?” but, of course, no…
ooo, burdi time
I feel like sending Cortes out for the 5th was a mistake
Probably, but you could defend it. Keeping him in AFTER the leadoff home run? Not so much. “Oh? He is clearly washed for today? Let’s see what else we can get out of him.”
This loss will suck
“L.T. Allen…LIEUTENANT ALLEN?”
“That’s right, Lieutenant L.T. Allen”
How many times can they get thrown out at 2nd base when they didn’t have to go there?
As you observed yesterday, they’re just trying to “break up the double play”.
Hah! Somebody might mention to them that the phrase doesn’t mean what they seem to think it means.
So Burdi comes in, gets a popup, two k’s and a single. If only he hadn’t entered the game with a runner in scoring position and no outs.
The other team getting strikes now well out of the zone on BOTH sides of the plate. Multiple times in consecutive at bats.
I mean – seriously.
Using Weaver here seems ill-considered.
Heck, the whole use of the bullpen period today has been weird. Waiting too long to go to Burdi, and then pulling Burdi after just one inning.
wrong
Got one of those calls back at least.
weavah!
vah!
hmm, a boost to former Yankee prospects
Good thing Luke Weaver is in the Circle of Trust.
right
good tidings
why Trevino
nvm, it’s jones
Could Trevino just need some more timing? He seemed to swing the bat well today.
Letting Trevino hit and then pinch running for him is just peak strategy.
The bench is awful, though. Wells is the only good hitter on the bench, and he’s been terrible this year.
VOLPE!
awoooooo
Fucking PHENOM!
I once again wonder what could have been had the Yankees let volpe go back to the minors last year.
I don’t know, I’m thinking they finally let one of these guys play through it – and it eventually worked.
The YES angle has been that he’s only succeeding now BECAUSE they left him in the Majors last year.
medium-medium-rare
Doesn’t matter, hes GREAT now.
Probably some food Peraza’s Abuela fed him is the secret.
weaver for closer
I’m annoyed, but runner beat it out
Kwan is just so fast.
atta boy ump
When Holmes is feeling it, he can make batters look embarrassed, like he did to Naylor there.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh… there we go.
woooo
Huge hit by Rizzo.
I figured Ferguson would be the closer today. Hopefully he’s got a big lead to work with.
Do NOT like the bunt from Gleyber there.
I’m okay with it, additional run is huge
also Gleyber sucks
The only way it works is if you just think Gleyber is total garbage, and yeah, he HAS been, but we can’t just, like, ASSUME it.
But it’s ridiculous to assume that – at all. It’s early. SSS. He’s going to break out of it, and even then – no, just bad baseball.
Also, UDJ – *WHAT* extra run?
UDJ, were you thinking he sacrificed a runner in from third?
What was the point of sacrificing there?
UPD: as per Cronin
Trying to avoid the DP
TRYING.
How the fuck did Verdugo not get to first base there?
fucking verdugo
No way was he busting out of the box, right?
he was watching the fucking play
Well that was idiotic
Oh good. The contact play is still on.
Bo, Bo, Bo Naylor
Banana fana fo faylor
That they got 2 runs was good. I won’t complain about them messing up a bigger inning until they lose this game, which is inevitable.
Timer violations TO LEAD OFF AN INNING are so stupid
fucking holmes
Dammit.
Good God.
fucking holmess
My complaining is welling to the surface after they screwed the 10th after scoring 2-runs.
The most Boonerism loss this season incoming.
Wait, how is THIS on Boone? I mean, he’s the worst in-game manager in the history of the multiverse, but what did he do in this inning specifically?
gahhhh
Twice this inning they can’t get the ball out of the glove. For chrissakes.
fucking torres
What a dumb goddamn game.
Fuck. Gleyber. Pls.
As I said, inevitable. Gleyber, a huge disappointment.
It is crazy just how bad Gleyber is on defense.
But don’t forget that his hitting is also overrated
“Yankees trying to hold on” taking on new meaning.
The pen past the top 3 is not good
I don’t blame Boone here, Ferguson pretty much had to be the guy. He’s just not that good, that’s the bigger problem. That’s why acquiring another bullpen arm would be SO huge for this team. Tough loss.
Unbelievable.
poor
what the fuck
you fucking suck holmes
If Gleyber keeps this up he’s going to cost himself millions…and no one will be upset when he leaves. So at least there’s that.
It’s truly hilarious how much no one will care when he’s not here next year.
How could Verdugo not be running?
Why would Gleyber sacrifice?
Two players unable to get the ball out of their gloves in the final half-inning.
There is no way on earth they should have lost this game.
Also, the home plate umpire was beyond atrocious.
After they failed to get more than 2 in the top of the 10th, I had that feeling.
First loss in a one-run game this season.
Over the seasons Gleyber has cost them a lot with his glove, and many times he doesn’t get an error, just bad plays all around.
look at him! he don even care!
Past the top 3 there’s nothing but mop caliber pitchers
Guess when I get home I’ll have to watch the 10th to see Gleyber
Verdugo thinking it made sense to literally turn around to watch the play at the plate instead of running to first is one of the greatest baseball mysteries I’ve seen.
he was a fan
Also, not for nothing, but how does Stanton not get to third on Rizzo’s single?
he was a fann
We saw lazy base running Stanton in 2023, so more of the same.
This team has been bad at fundamentals for some years.
nice snell outing today and lizard
RAB: MLB AVG – 22.6% K rates relievers
Hamilton – 22.2%
Ferguson – 19.4%
Holmes – 17.1%
Santana – 16.7%
Weaver – 12.2%
Gonzalez – 8.3%
IF defense cost them today, but the bullpen allows way too many balls in play in close games
I mean, they’re intentionally trying to get guys who get groundballs. I think that’s fine. The issue is they ALSO need a dude who can actually strike people out. They’re getting Kahnle and Effross back, but who knows what Effross will be like? Cash needs to get another reliever.
Ferguson just is not going to cut it as the guy after Holmes and Hamilton.
Kahnle was due to throw in the pen Friday, I don’t know if he did. Effross is out until the summer, at least. Beeter could be the guy or Schmidt if they want Beeter to start. With Cole coming back eventually I’d rather see Beeter in the pen.
So, Spencer Jones played in game one of a twin bill and hasn’t played since. Once a Week Jones?
Getting hits is tiring
Look, I like fun shoes and confident rich young athletes with swag, but I don’t need to hear this much about custom cleats from the ESPN crew.
