  2. Catching up from a bit behind – Weathers was great getting the first two strikes on Merlin, and then couldn’t just keep doing the same thing, CLEARLY pitched differently and had to go to 3-2 and all that before finally winning what had unnecessarily become a battle.
    Can’t they teach them not to do that?

    1. You see it in so many of these games. The pitchers have clearly been given a very specific gameplan, and they just don’t always FOLLOW it. Sometimes the players are just too stupid to be taught.

      However, to be fair, sometimes it just takes them a while to learn.

  5. According to Savant phenom in terms of range is having a better season than Cabby. phenom and Jazz looked pretty smooth on a couple of DPs yesterday.

    2. I would be fine with Volpe being the everyday shortstop, and I would be okay with Cabby being the everyday shortstop. They just need to pick one, and send the other one to the minors, and since Cabby is also one of the best base stealers in the game, and (IN A VERY SMALL SAMPLE SIZE) appears to be better at turning double plays than Volpe, I’d probably pick Cabby.

      But either way, keeping both of them on the roster is d-u-m dumb.

    4. I was meaning to respond to your comment in the last thread. I’ve come to trust Jazz in the clutch in games….so long as no one is on base. He gets some clutch solo shots, and gets on base when no one is on. WITH dudes on, I’m less happy to see him (he DID get a big hit with a runner on in the Nationals series, though).

  21. I actually liked the game – it’s traditional, old-fashioned baseball stuff, within the rules. Weathers should have just dealt with it. I actually think he did, it wasn’t a smash, it just found a hole. It looked like he was throwing well.

    1. I kind of think it distracted him from the necessity of sucking after getting a lead.

    1. And then after wasting pitches, they are forced to come back over the plate, and get crushed like that. It’s just the dumbest fucking possible way to pitch, and Weathers and Warren ROUTINELY do it.

    1. I’m so unclear on what this stuff means. “Full bullpen” is where on the recovery stage? Is that the last step before a rehab game? Or is there a lot more in between?

      EDITED TO ADD: Okay, it sounds like full bullpen is followed by batting practice, and when THAT goes well, THEN you go to rehab games. So he’s about three-four weeks away from returning (if he has no setbacks, of course).

  30. The Yankees can’t hit and their current rotation is Cam, Cole, Warren, Weathers and Yarbrough/Elmer. That’s got championship written all over it.

  66. That is precisely why Chivilli will remain a low leverage guy. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a much better low leverage guy than their other low leverage guys, but his command just can’t be trusted at all, and when he falls behind, he can very much be hit.

    2. His excuse that Stanton was out and Fried was hurt so he wanted to help the team is sad. Dude, you wrecked something in your neck area, and you ignored it for a month.

    3. Yep, and, as the Yankees made clear after the injury was announced, they’re CONSTANTLY checking on these dudes, and he just kept quiet until he had finally broken the bone like an idiot.
