    1. That Volpe and Schuemann are both still on the roster, and Jones is not, sure suggests that Cabby is going to be mostly an outfielder in his return.

    2. I’d prefer to keep Jones a little longer and lose Schumann. Meanwhile assuming Trent is healthy who’s the SS? Cabby has 83 games at 3b. phenom is 1/10 with no walks in his last 3 games. Do Cash or Boone have a clue?

    3. Assuming Trent is healthy…
………….exactly who is Cabby replacing in the outfield?
But I’m presuming they’re NOT going just throw Trent out there every game as if he’s wholly healthy, which is why Brian’s probably right.

    4. Yeah, my guess is that Grisham is day to day for now, so Volpe basically replaces Grisham in the lineup.

A downgrade, but less of a downgrade if he’s playing hurt.

  1. Kiley McDaniel updated his top 50 list

    10. George Lombard Jr., SS, New York Yankees (Previous: 20)
Lombard is now in Triple-A at the age of most college juniors and would be one of the top couple of picks in the draft if eligible. He has improved his contact rate this season and has the tools for 20 homers from a strong defender at shortstop with enough contact to make it all work.

Neither Lagrange nor ERC made the top 50.

    1. There were a few times it did. I’m not sure you can confidently attribute this slump to that.
Especially as it is, as we read, the third such slump in his career.

  2. i’m very disappointed that Jones was sent down and not Volpe.

Jones can handle cf and needs some more mlb at bats.

    cabby needs to play short.

Volpe should be handed 2b at AAA to see if he can do it and maybe provide a platoon option for Jazz if he continues to suck vs lefties later in the year.

    1. I’m glad Jones had this cup of coffee – hopefully he understands now what he needs to work on – and glad he got sent down so he can hopefully work on it. I had expected more chasing with such a high strikeout rate, but he actually seems not to chase too much. So if he can spend the next few months working on squaring the ball up regularly – perhaps by slowing down his swing a little – then he could become a very dangerous hitter.

Of course, he might just need to face MLB quality pitching to get adequate practice. You don’t see many Misiorowski’s in AAA.

  3. Anthony Volpe played a little 2B in the spring of 2023 while battling vs. Oswald Peraza. None since.

“He still may end up being all at shortstop,” Aaron Boone said. “On the days he’s playing shortstop, I may move Cabby around. But I want him to at least get some work over there and see that side of the field.”

Can’t afford to lose phenom’s bat in the lineup. Peraza 262/331/441 120 OPS+

  4. Hoch “Jasson Domínguez has advanced to tee-and-toss exercises. He could play in Minor League games during the first week of June, Aaron Boone said.
Giancarlo Stanton will be examined this coming week to determine if he can resume running. Aaron Boone suggested it’s possible Stanton could bypass a Minor League rehab assignment since he has continued to hit.”

  5. When things are going bad . . . Caballero and Hill are among the league’s best in DRS at their positions, yet they effectively give the Rays 6 outs in the 8th inning.

  6. Katie S – Gerrit Cole allowed just 3 hard-hit (95+ mph exit velo) batted balls out of 17 total batted balls.

That 17.6% hard-hit rate allowed is tied for his 5th-lowest in any start of his Yankee career, and lowest since June 14, 2022 vs Rays (6.7%).

  7. “There’s your run, guys; make it hold up.”
    No.

“The pen is a team effort, if one guy does the job, the next won’t.”
Really depends on what you (or they) think “the job” is, doesn’t it?

“Katie S – Gerrit Cole allowed just 3 hard-hit (95+ mph exit velo) batted balls out of 17 total batted balls.

How much does that mean when it’s the Rays? Hitting the ball hard isn’t what they do, it’s a ton of soft contact.
