From Bryan Hoch:
The Yankees have struggled to score on the road this season. Paul Goldschmidt stepped into the box ready to change that.
Goldschmidt belted a leadoff homer on Trevor Rogers’ first pitch and Trent Grisham added a three-run shot that highlighted a five-run third inning, powering the Yankees’ 6-2 victory over the Orioles on Tuesday evening at Camden Yards.
“Winning and getting hits, all that’s a lot more fun than when you’re losing or getting outs,” Goldschmidt said. “We all know this game has a lot of ups and downs. I think the mindset is to just show up and work hard, and enjoy it – it’s called a game for a reason.”
New York snapped its four-game losing streak behind a solid outing from Will Warren, who bounced back from his roughest start of the season by holding Baltimore to two runs over 5 2/3 innings.
I mean absolutely no offense to Goldy, who has been playing well, but how is HE the story just because he hit a solo home run in a 6-2 ballgame? Weird angle there, Hoch.
Will Warren fell apart a bit in the sixth inning, and didn’t even get through six innings, so I can’t give him the featured image, and Grisham PROBABLY deserves it, but I gave him a featured image recently, so I’m going with Tim Hill, who came in in the 8th inning after Jake Bird fucking sucked (to be fair to Bird, he has pitched well lately, but I think it’s one of those deals where he pitches JUST well enough for you to trust him so that he can make it more painful when he fucks you over later) and did what Tim Hill does, gets two quick groundballs to get out of the jam.
Boone has been leaning on Tim Hill HEAVILY this season to get big outs when the other guys suck, and he almost always comes through. Heck, the other day, in the Brewers game that he was the pitcher on the mound when the Brewers won (I don’t know how to call it when you didn’t blow a save and you didn’t take the loss), he did so while really getting two outs, he just moronically threw one of those outs away for no reason. Headrick has been good, too, but I think Boone has been leaning on Headrick TOO much, as he leads the league in appearances, and I wouldn’t be surprised if his poor performance in the last two outings had to do with being overworked. Dude doesn’t allow a home run all season and then allows one in back-to-back outings? Seems fishy.
Anyhow, good win.
Nice win yesterday!
Happy Birthday to me.
