    1. Escarra. They’ll likely spend the next month getting Rice ready to catch again.

I think their plan/hope is that Rice will catch against most lefties.

    2. It could be Grichuk if he doesn’t start hitting. Rosario and Caballero can each play the OF.

    3. I dunno, any time you would want to play Rosario, there would be a guy you would want him to hit for in the infield, no? I wonder if Slater will sign a minor league deal with the Yankees in hopes of getting that spot, too.

  1. Thinking about how to stave off the annual Boone June Swoon™, which as Jomboy noted, seems to coincide with a lot of intra-AL-East games and could cost the team the division, again.

Call up Jones? Only if he’s proven he can hit LHP by then. He was 0-4 in ST, and had very high K rates vs LHP in past years.

Let a returning Cole re-energize the team? Maybe. But if he’s under an innings limit then it won’t be much for the bullpen.

Let a returning Volpe … ha, ha, ha.

Fire Boone? Okay, now we’re talking…

    1. Legend has it that similar exercises are how Nasty Nestor suffered his season-ending groin injury in 2022.

    1. How much of that was framing, and how valuable is framing in the age of ABS?

  2. NYY Lineup

    T Grisham (L) CF
    A Judge (R) RF
    C Bellinger (L) LF
    B Rice (L) 1B
    G Stanton (R) DH
    J Chisholm Jr. (L) 2B
    J Caballero (R) SS
    R McMahon (L) 3B
    A Wells (L) C

  3. From the MLB.com preview of this series:

    Who are the starting pitchers?
    Yankees: LHP Max Fried
    Previous Opening Day starts: 2021, 2022, 2023
    2025 season: 19-5, 2.86 ERA in 32 starts

Fried filled the role of ace for the Yankees last year, but because of the timing of Gerrit Cole’s injury, he didn’t receive the honor of starting on Opening Day. That will change on Wednesday. In 2025, Fried set career highs in wins, starts (32), innings pitched (195 1/3) and strikeouts (189), earning selection as an American League All-Star.

    Giants: RHP Logan Webb
    Previous Opening Day starts: 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025
    2025 season: 15-11, 3.22 ERA in 34 starts

After wrapping up his successful stint with Team USA at the World Baseball Classic, Webb is slated to make his fifth consecutive Opening Day start for the Giants, the second-longest streak in franchise history behind Hall of Famer Juan Marichal (6). The 29-year-old right-hander finished fourth in National League Cy Young voting after leading the Majors in innings (207) and the NL in strikeouts (224) in 2025.

Fried was ALSO fourth in the AL Cy Young. Odd not to mention that, right?
