A couple of days removed from the nailbiting loss in the series finale against the Braves, manager Aaron Boone spoke frankly on Tuesday about the quiet stretch that the Yankees’ offense has found itself in recently — one that is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.
Entering the opener vs. the Mariners, the club’s post-All-Star break stretch has been a slog with the bats: It was collectively hitting .199 (last in the Majors) with a .625 OPS (29th).
Still, even Boone’s honest assessment was tinged with a certain level of optimism that has felt like the manager’s trademark skill during his tenure.
“Been a struggle — several weeks now where it’s been difficult for us scoring runs, an area we’ve got to be better, and we know that,” Boone said. “The good thing is that we’ve had to play in a lot of really close games day in and day out, and [we’ve] done a good job against a lot of good teams winning those games.”
That tightrope walk continued on Tuesday at Yankee Stadium. After the Yankees went down in the sixth inning on a Randy Arozarena home run off starter Ryan Weathers, they stormed back in the seventh frame thanks to two-run singles by Ryan McMahon and Trent Grisham that fueled New York’s 4-1 win against Seattle.
Hitting under .200 as a fucking TEAM since the All Star Break is fucking INSANE.
But hey, at least they won this one! They suddenly strung some hits together in a way that they haven’t in AGES.
Also, Boone, with the Yankees facing a long stretch of righthanded starters, could you please at the VERY least flip Garcia and Ramos in the lineup? Pleeeeeeeeease?

Does anyone think Luis Gil could help out of the bullpen this season?
What I’d like to see is a bullpen guy who can go three innings so that they don’t have to use 3 pitchers or more every darn game. If Gil can do that (with an ERA of under 3?) that would be useful,
I don’t think something like that is all that feasible with their starters rarely giving them length.
I’m more intrigued by Schmidt in spite of the recent forearm tightness. Gil could be the end of the Yarbrough experience.
If Healthy Gil can be a very good pitcher. Sure he ight help.
If you flip Garcia and Ramos you’ll have LHBs hitting 123. You could move Lombard to the 1 or 2.
Yeah, but you can’t be worried about Rice against lefties, can you?
That would require thinking.
Next you’ll expect them to notice when someone has reverse splits.
Stop thinking. Just look at whether it says R or L and follow that law mechanically.
I follow the Yankees less and less every year and I find I don’t even know who the players are any more. Garcia? Ramos? ok

Against LHPs I lead off Lombard. The problem is not the lineup it’s the players, coaches, and manager. But mostly the players.
I think it’s a little early to have Lombard lead off. At least till next year, I’d bat him 9 and use him as a second leadoff guy. Not that there’s anyone else I’d want leading off right now. I just don’t want to make Lombard feel like he has to carry a hopeless team.
