Kikuchi has done well against them in the past, so hopefully they take advantage of what appears to be a slump for HIM, and kick his ass tonight. Maybe Randall Grichuk can get…a hit?!!?
And yes, the idea that Paul Goldschmidt can’t pinch hit ever against a righty, but can be the leadoff hitter against lefties is, indeed, total bullshit.
Meanwhile, this Angels lineup DESTROYED Will Warren a couple of seasons ago, so let’s hope that Warren has improved since then (Neto, in particular, devoured his soul).
Warren on pace for 27 K’s on just 243 pitches.
Neto’s a tough hitter, so I can’t complain TOO much about needing nine pitches to get him…but okay, I’m still going to do it. You can’t need nine pitches on the first fucking player, dude!
It ended up not being a TERRIBLE amount of pitches, but maybe try to keep at-bats under 5 pitches going forward, Warren!
I miscounted Grichuk’s at-bats. I thought he had 13. He’s only had 12. So that’s totally fine, then. Nothing wrong with going 0-12.
Whew! You had me worried there for a moment.
Thank GOD they didn’t let this guy get a SINGLE pinch hit appearance during the five game losing streak despite the tying run being at the plate MULTIPLE times in the ninth inning. Was it every time?
It would be nice if Judge got hot. He DESTROYED that pitch.
It was a 2-0 meatball, but yeah. He didn’t miss.
Nice to see them take advantage of a pitcher in a slump. Then again, this is the Yankees, these might be their only hits of the game.
You got your two runs Will, Doval, Bird, Hill,Cruz and Bednar. Make it stand.
Good thing Boone has kept Goldy on the bench all this time. Wouldn’t want to have actual offense now.
It is fucking MADDENING.
The umpire came in to the game with only seven challenges, and a 5-2 record, and he’s now been challenged twice and lost both of them.
Judge! Good start, now score some more.
Should have challenged that 1-2 pitch.
Amusingly, Warren just said, “Okay, I’ll just move it slightly over to get the third strike.”
Apparently the Soler thing came down to Lopez not liking how Soler looked at him, and he started saying, “It was on purpose? It was on purpose?” like, “Are you kidding me? You thought that was on purpose?” and Soler thought he said, “It was on purpose,” and he, naturally, thought, “What the fuck did this psycho just say to me?” and that’s when he charged.
TERRIBLE challenge by Moncada. Down to just one challenge for the Angels.
Too many fucking pitches, Warren. He’s looking good, otherwise, but throwing way too many pitches.
I’d like to see Judge rob Adell three times today.
Is it fair to say that Moncada didn’t live up to his hype? Or is it too soon?
No, it’s fair.
Grichuk reaches base!
Cabby fouled the ball of his foot. It might have actually have hurt him.
That might’ve been a strike
CABBY!!!!
I think Judge’s was longer.
I’m all for Volpe taking the job from Cabby, since Cabby sucks as a starter, but I really like him as a bench player.
As a pinch runner, he’s also a game-changer.
Another Kikuchi meatball, and Cabby takes it for a ride.
He hit it uber hard, good thing the wall is low because it had no lift.
Judge hit it way mo’ far.
Again, we all get it, Goldy is NOT GOOD against righties. I truly don’t mean to suggest that he is some amazing hitter. But come the fuck on, I don’t give a shit that McMahon hit righties better than Goldy last year, OF COURSE you go to Goldy over ANY OF THESE OTHER FUCKERS in a close game late.
He’s just a professional hitter!
Damn, Kikuchi made O’Hoppe pull a fucking SPIDER-MAN to get that pitch!
How in the world is Judge THAT slow on that play? Moncada almost still got him!
Fuck, if Belli hadn’t broken his bat on that pitch, that’s an easy single.
I really think that the platooning lineup idea was a GOOD one, it just hasn’t worked since McMahon and Grichuk have been so bad. The IDEA was good, though.
Boone’s wife feeling justified.
That should count as a HR grading on the Grichuk curve.
Four is not enough.
In better news: Lol Crochet.
Whoa!
The usual Warren nonsense.
Gonna need more runs.
I wonder whether Warren might be losing it?
Did he ever have ‘it’?
Four will not be enough, neither will five, nor probably six.
Sure no earned runs but there should be a modified runs allowed stat.
Bank runs?
This is the Cruz problem. Following the Warren problem.
Extracted Runs?
Gifted Runs.
The total of Earned Runs and Unearned Runs would be Gross Runs.
Sorry that took a while.
Cruz control.
Stupidly I was looking around for a doc to watch thinking this might be a laugher. It still might but the other way.
Did they just say Magneto is in this game?
No, it’s Zach Neto.
Magneto took Tony Vitello’s old job, and now the NCAA is mandating all wooden bats.
One strike away for the millionth time.
Cruz control strikes again.
This is the opposite of good
The Angels have really battled because the Yankees pitchers have really sucked. Cruz is like a trick pitch pitcher. If you don’t swing at his split, he’s toast. He needs another pitch.
He needs AAA. He’s one of those AAAA guys.
Prescient. I believe it was 4-1 then.
Whew! Lucky.
Throw f*ing strikes.
And Warren seems too often just to fall apart when things go wrong.
Raise your hand if, after two innings, you had Kikuchi outlasting Warren.
Okay, now let’s all put our hands down.
It was a magic bullet.
Judge just watched two eminently crushable pitches.
Judge. 😔
Now that Kikuchi’s out we can go to our LH bench and blow the game open.
When Boone pinch-hits McMahon for Goldschmidt, I’m going to be upset, but not as upset as Mrs. Boone.
Joe D, Mick, Bernie and Trent
Well… swell.
TPTG
Grisham closed his eyes tightly and swung hard, and poof! A 3-run HR.
Chuk up?
Sham. Wow.
That has been Warren’s M.O. his whole career (which, of course, is not that long), he does NOT respond well when things go wrong.
Cruz’s outing is why he’ll never be the main setup guy. You never know if he’ll have command any given night.
And as for Grisham, well, you know what I’m going to say there.
He’s now 152/622?
One swing raising his OPS 100 points tells you everything, right?
Lot of runs being scored today across MLB. Methinks 7 might not be enough, it should be, but score more.
I don’t recall much quantum mechanics, but I do recall that Wells have far lower potential than their surroundings.
Noice!
I didn’t like taking Hill out at all.
Boone playing Russian roulette with the bullpen again.
It is what he does, and it is often… Yeah. 💥
Bird fits right in with these fucking dicking around Yankee pitchers. And you KNOW that’s the EXACT opposite of what Blake is telling them to do.
Terrible, terrible pitching by Bird. Everyone knew he had to make sure to throw a strike there, and Trout was ready for it.
Just a dogshit job by Bird. I’d honestly send him to the minors over that shit. That was inexcusable. That was just, “I don’t know WHAT the fuck I’m doing.” You can have all the stuff in the world, if you’re a fucking moron, you’re going to get tagged.
Yep, 7 runs aren’t enough as the bullpen crashes and burns.
Bird fails to catch Trout
That’s gonna leave a mark
With the tying run on-deck in the person of Mike fucking Trout, why in the WORLD would you take Hill out, who was fucking CRUISING? He allowed a fucking fluky hit, and you’re going to bring Bird in to face Neto with Trout on deck as the tying run? What is the fucking thought process there?
Again, I never would have taken Hill out, but whatever, if you give up a hit to Neto and a home run to Trout, I honestly am not even going to kill you. They’re good hitters. But when you throw away two pitches meaning that Trout is going to wait for a pitch down the middle and he kills you, you’re just a waste of space.
Send him to the minors. He’s a fucking headcase.
If the Yankees win this one (they probably won’t), they sure as fuck better not give Bird the win. Send that dude to the fucking minors.
Boone brought him back out.
MOPE Most overrated pen ever
We all see what they see in Bird, but he’s too fucking dumb. I am never going to believe in him. Get him off of this team.
Judge!
Mr. 50-50 fails again.
Too many droppings from Bird. Second and third, one out.
Oh, for my sakes!
The Bird is the four-letter word.
Well, I’d just stay with Bird here, because he’s been so effective.
I would do just what the other team did keeping their pitcher in for just way too long.
They HAVE to send this dude to the minors tonight.
Boone?
In all seriousness, Paul Blackburn would have been a terrible choice to pitch the 7th, and yet would have been a better choice to pitch the 7th.
Bird with a 7.71 era to go with his 27 era last year but Blake will fix him. Doval with a 6 era.
MOPE.
You can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear.
Not watching until they fire Boone but I do come here for the commentary. Amazing
LUCK for MVP!
Boone got suckered into bringing in his lefties.
The odds of Doval holding them scoreless seem low.
Well, if you can’t get Adam Frazier out, you’ll DEFINITELY be able to get Neto and Trout out.
LOL
As I said above, you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear. And there are too many sow’s ears in this bullpen.
I truly can’t believe Doval did THE SAME EXACT THING AS BIRD.
If Trout hits a home run off of you, he hits a home run off of you, you don’t get ahead and then waste two balls ahead of having to throw one down the middle.
Doval obviously has more experience than Bird, so I wouldn’t send him down. But Bird has got to go down to the minors tonight.
Cashman has done a great job getting Bird, Doval and MacMahon
Cruz, Bird, and Doval were all insanely bad, but this is really on Warren being unable to deal with the error. Terrible stuff.
But Bird and Doval will never be trustworthy. Warren might.
Oh, totally. Just for TONIGHT it was annoying. He’s obviously much better than them.
On top of that, now awful luck. Crazy.
Doval era 7.36, last year 4.82 but much worse when the game was on the line.
They sure deserved this loss BIG TIME.
I guess you bring up Castro for Bird?
How fucking HILARIOUS is it that the only effective reliever was the guy Boone pulled for no fucking reason.
Boone’s search for the guy that didn’t have it was a success.
Do the guys with good stuff never watch Blackburn and Hill? Just throw strikes!
It’s MADDENING. And, again, you KNOW that that is what Blake is specifically telling them TO DO, and they are just too fucking stupid to do it.
‘Sham wows again.
This is going to be the most hilarious loss.
Alright, with Cabby on second and no outs in the ninth inning of a tie game, they’ll walk Wells and get McMahon to ground into a triple play.
This is going to be a gnarly CT.
Welcome back Grisham.
this COULD be the TYM for ryan
McMahon TYM.
Yay, wild pitch win.
HE DID IT TYM
Clutch wild pitch forcer by McMahon.
Just throw strikes to Wells and MacMahon
Yay win but boo POS Pen. And Cashman is not the only GM who fans on a reclamation project.
I mock McMahon, but in all seriousness, that WAS a really good at-bat.
There were some terrible swings in it, actually.
But some good ones, too.
Now that was some Little League nonsense. A win is a win, but the Yankees didn’t so much win as tie, and the Angels lost it.
Yay Trent! Yay Judge! Yay Cabby!
Yay Goldy and Mrs Boone!
Three future HOFers each homer twice,
Could have been four, but Boone is still upset about his wife.
Boone “Bird obviously a tough night for him but I also thought he made a lot of good pitches too. Doval, I think he’s throwing the ball well, the stuff was really good, he was in the strike zone.”
What game was he watching?
Absurd. Bird HAS to go. Doval legit DID make some good pitches outside of the Trout at-bat (“Besides that, how was the theater, Mrs. Lincoln?”), but there was NOTHING good about Bird’s outing.
He can work on his shit in the minors.
Bird to Scranton
They HAD to do it. Forget how shitty he was, they were just going to be short on relievers period.
Only the second time in MLB history that two 3-time MVPs each hit multiple HRs in the same game. The only previous time was1956 when Stan Musial and Roy Campanella did it on June 21, 1956.
There’s the Yankees I remember from last year. The unique ability to make a win feel like a loss.
Hilarious that bird has now pitched 9 innings as a Yankee allowing 17 base runners and 12 runs.
Let’s go back and read about the trade last year that cashman said was to help shore up the bullpen. And how commenters here said was stupid (or at least I did.) The only way this gets worse is if one of the minor leaguers they traded for him becomes an all star. I still remember the Yankees trading Fred Mgriff to get the “missing” bullpen
Piece way back when…
They gave up basically nothing for him. That’s not a good thing, of course, if he never performs, but they’re definitely not going to be haunted by the guys they traded for him. Cashman only gives up real prospects for established guys (and even there, of course, things often go wrong, like Scott Effross having ALL of the injuries).
