It’s crazy how much of an impact it would have on this team if Will Warren doesn’t suck. So, well, please don’t suck, Will Warren!
Also, it would be nice if you guys could hit Corbin Burnes, please! It’s total bullshit that they’re playing against Corbin Burnes in the Diamondbacks’ FIFTH game, but it is what it is.
Nice to see a first baseman whose brain still works!
Warren’s stuff was very good in the first. He had a changeup to Smith that had SO MUCH movement on it.
That was good.
They’d get Burnes and Gallen in this series regardless of whether Burnes is the #1 or the #5, so it’s no big deal. The difference is that they’ll face Kelly on Thursday, instead of Taillon today (and Taillon got kinda shelled his first start, 6 ER in 4.1 IP).
Oh sure, but Burnes shouldn’t have been the #5 starter if he wasn’t the #1.
Burnes is just pulling a Stroman and asking his team to accommodate his need for a stupidly rigid schedule.
I love his cocky answer about it. “You signed me for my process, so why would you want to mess with my process?” Okay, buddy, but, like, couldn’t your process not be so fucking weird?
Oh well.
Too bad Yankee catchers have never batted leadoff.
Where are the good bats?
The Martian is such a non conformist.
I don’t get Jazz hitting 4 over Wells.
Jazz has more home runs than Wells!
I don’t mind the call, but holy shit, ump, MAKE THE CALL. Don’t fucking delay your call, it just makes you look like a dick.
Volpe v.2025 looking a lot like Volpe v.2023 and v.2024.
The Will Warren experience in a nutshell. Looks great, and then a home run.
Reminds me of early Gil, in that the stuff is SO GOOD, and then he just has brain cramps, and it’s a home run.
It was fun while it lasted. So much of the game at this level is mental, or what Yogi once said.
Yep. That walk clearly rattled him, and, like, come on, dude, how do you let a single walk rattle you?!
Is it a brain cramp or just a bad changeup to a great hitter?
A bad changeup to a great hitter right after you lost a batter on a close pitch IS a brain cramp.
In other words, if it was just a normal at-bat, and a guy crushes a bad changeup, I get it, but when you’re visibly irritated by a call, and then throw a bad changeup on the next pitch? That’s a brain cramp, and that’s a lack of discipline.
But there’s some chance even the most “tough” pitcher is gonna throw a bad changeup even when they’re not having a mental problem. How do you k ow when it’s their mind and not just inevitable mistakes?
The Martian!
I like Dave Sims.
Waldman: “I don’t think it’s a torpedo bat.”
Sims: “I don’t care.”
I can’t believe Goldschmidt took that first pitch.
Again, the ump didn’t give him a close pitch, and he instantly melted down and walked the next batter on four pitches. He just doesn’t seem to be the brightest guy.
Warren had a 5.91 era in the minors last year. Thats hard to overlook. As I remember he’d have an occasional big game but a lot of clunkers.
With the advent of AI Wouldn’t check swing calls be easy to computerize?
Not sure machine learning even need be involved, the Statcast/Savant folks already have tools for bat tracking, and something similar was just tested in the AZ Fall League . https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mlb-testing-automated-check-swing-challenge-system-this-fall-as-league-further-embraces-robo-ump-experiments/
Swing hard all the time Volpe connects for a change.
Phenom 2022.
Wow, 13-pitch BB by Wells. Game Day has him with what appears to be a torpedo bat in his hands, surprised they did it that quickly.
Well, Burnes has them right where he wants them now.
Rice, one RISP Fail down, one to go.
Yay, 2-run error.
The best RBI guy on the Yankees.
Warren is just so, so undisciplined. He’s so talented, and yet…
What a pitch to K Carroll!
Again, with talent like Warren, you don’t give up on it. I’m not saying he’s a bum. He is so talented that he deserves a chance to put it all together, like Gil seemingly did last year, but boy is it frustrating while he’s learning!
He could have rolled that to Jazz and he would have still swung.
Cruz is a max effort and yell kinda guy, huh?
Great job by Cruz. Could it be a case of him just trying to experiment on stuff during Spring Training? He didn’t look good in camp.
Jazz and 6 thru 9 in the lineup all susceptible to LHPing and I doubt Reyes or Peraza would be much help.
This guy MIGHT have been worth Trevy.
So far so good. That splitter is filthy.
Is he for real or is he another Edwar Ramirez?
I mean, he was among the top three guys in the Majors last year in strikeout rate, ya know? It was always a matter of walks and homers. He was basically the perfect guy to see if Blake could do something with him.
Walks and homers count. He’s 35.
Right, but it means he has great stuff to work with. So there’s an easier path to getting him to be good.
Fucked by soft contact AGAIN.
Please don’t pumpkin again, Leiter.
Juuuuuuuuuuuuust a bit outside.
I mean, whatever, they didn’t deserve to win this one anyways.
Good job so far by Leiter, 2 batters, 10 pitches, 2 BB.
And he desperately tried to throw a wild pitch with the second walk.
Yeah, Leiter stinks.
That’s what happens when you keep fucking around, Leiter.
Suarez had four home runs coming into today, so definitely want to walk the bases loaded to face him.
Well you can’t blame Warren for that
I’m so so glad we brought back Leiter for some more sucking.
He’s one of Cashman’s boys.
I know it’s only Game 4, but would it really kill Weaver to get four outs?
I don’t even really mind the home run to a guy on a crazy hot streak, it’s the two walks and then going to two balls on Suarez that piss me off. That’s just stupidity.
Last season for the Yankees in 21.2ip he gave up 28 hits including 6 home runs and 9 walks for a WHIP of 1.7 and a FIP of 5.2. But he’s family and we had to bring him back.
The Yankees aren’t exactly doing much at the plate, 2 gift runs out of 4.
Yeah, that’s why they didn’t deserve to win this one.
Jazz with the sombrero.
phenom 2023 with a 278 OBP in 2025. As long as he can continue on pace for 100 home runs everything should be ok.
phenom 2023 had 21 home runs and a 283 OBP for an OPS+ of 81.
I see Boone took Jasson out again. FFS, this team.
Yeah, not a fan.
Grisham is a smart defender. He knew he wasn’t going to catch that, but he also knew that he had to make it LOOK like he was going to catch it. Super, super smart play.
One of the most head’s up plays you’ll ever see by a Yankee.
Leiter sucking shouldn’t be that big of a deal in the long run considering he’s normally going to be a middle-innings guy. They just have a bunch of injuries, and today, it’s even worse with Williams on paternity leave.
Hill giving up a booming line drive was concerning, though.
At least Rice hasn’t given up. If he and Warren could be useful players, that sure would be something.
You have to like the way the offense has responded after the pitching had a bad inning.
[Sound Lurch makes]
Well, if that comment helped Rice, I’ll take it!
Why pinch-hit Pablo Reyes for Waldo, when you could bring in Peraza who still has the highest OPS on the team?
Agree, Brian. If this game proves to be a sign that they’ll get value out of Rice and Dominguez – and maybe Warren – I think we’ll take it.
But I was promised torpedo bats! 😏
Well, no dramatic correction, anyway. They could so easily have won this game.
