From Henry Palattella:
While there had been an undercurrent of Yankees support bubbling through the first two games of New York’s series against the Guardians at Progressive Field, it reached a fever pitch in the eighth inning of their 8-4 win on Wednesday afternoon.
With the crowd thinning out as the Yankees’ victory got closer and closer, the chants of “Let’s Go Yankees” began to fill the lower bowl.
By the time Ryan McMahon snared an Angel Martínez liner to end the game, Progressive Field seemed more like Yankee Stadium West than Cleveland’s home park.
But instead of Frank Sinatra’s “Theme From New York, New York” playing over the speakers, it was Modest Mouse’s “Float On,” which the Guardians play after every home loss.
Thanks to the Yankees, it may be a song Guardians fans hear in their nightmares for the foreseeable future.
After close wins in the first two games of the series, the Yankees picked up an easier win Wednesday thanks to a solid offensive showing.
Three games, three appearances of “Float On.”
“Just a really outstanding series against a really good team over there,” manager Aaron Boone said.
Good win. Certainly can’t complain about a sweep on the road of one of the only other teams in the American League with a winning record.
By the way, the Yankees’ record against teams with winning records is now 7-10, which is, you know, not a big deal either way (1-4 against Tampa Bay, 0-3 against Milwaukee, 4-2 against Cleveland, 2-1 against Seattle).
The featured image is Trent Grisham’s awesome slide that gave the Yankees the lead for good.
The Yankees take on Toronto this weekend, and Toronto is doing that douchey thing where they rearrange their rotation so that their best pitcher goes up against the Yankees, as Trey Yesavage will now pitch Friday night. What a loser move by Toronto.
Modest Mouse SUCKS and that song is awful
Imagine your team loses, you stayed the whole time and then your own org plays THAT song to torment you on your way out.
I’d never listened to it, now I have!
Yes, it sucks.
I think you’re underselling just how bad Modest Mouse sucks.

This may be the worst baseball article ever.
What’s the key? Nothing. Or – doing what he always did, including before the resurgence.
In other words – nothing.
Just a bunch of totally empty windbag verbiage.
Published.
For money.
In a major source.
Crazy.
writers gotta fill the column inches, it’s a long season
Do it better. Better than this isn’t hard. Have some f*ing pride.
hangovers exist
And from another MLB piece… 4 rund in 6+ innings is quality start? Really?
I thought 3 in 6 was the limit.
If so, that’s a contender for silliest statistic out there.
4 in 6 gets you a ticket to the minors. ERA of 6? Argh.
Quality start is six or more innings of three EARNED runs or less.
Only three of the four run Ohtani gave up were earned, so it was a quality start.
Knicks fans giving NYC another black-eye.
When The Martian comes back who will go down, phenom,Schumann, or Jones? Who should go down?
Phenom and it’s not even close. He’s one of the worst hitting Yankees of all-time. Not sure it’s true but AI told me he has the second lowest OPS of Yankees with 1500+ at bats, only some guy named Red Kleinow who played in 1904-1911 is lower. If true that is unbelievable and quite simply enough is enough. If he was a gold glove fielder and Ricky Henderson base stealer, maybe. But yes not. It’s time to go.
That’s who should go down. Who will go down.
The Martian not in lineup for Scranton tonight.
Starting searching – Bobby Richardson was worse for longer.
I don’t think they understood how bad he was. 700 PAs in 1961 hitting leadoff in front of Maris and mantle and scored only 80 runs. I guess when you’re winning World Series all is forgiven.
1960 World Series MVP
In a WS they lost!
Richardson was considered a superb defender at 2nd.
I honestly think it WILL be Volpe who is sent down.
Chappy says that he would only accept a trade to the Yankees if Cashman apologizes to him.
What a loser.
Brian, if Jazz keeps hitting home runs in Stanton’s pants or with Judge’s bat, will we nickname him Crusher Creel?
DC had their own version of that power set in Amazing Man, and theirs was a Black hero, so we could go with his name, Will Everett!
Didn’t know that! But I don’t think it works as well (and skin color isn’t really relevant here at all). After all, the point is that he’s CRUSHING the ball with their stuff. (It would be a bit facile to say that he’s willing it over the wall, and anyway that would substitute will for the absorption as the reason).
I mean, he hits a home run, which cry seems better:
Crusher!
or
Will Everett!
Not until he brings a big ball and chain to the dugout.
Well, for a while there he looked like was trying to BE a ball and chain for this team, does that count?
Amazing Man sounds cool, though!
And I bet Jazz would love it, since he’s so into anime.
Deep, deep cut. First comic I ever bought was an Avengers with him on the cover. There’s a bad trend in comics and the movies to have every story be about the fate of the world or the universe, but Crusher absorbing the power of a ship’s diesel engine and that requiring the combined might of the Avengers to defeat is so small potatoes it’s hilarious
Weathers vs Yesavage, not optimal. How many home runs will Toronto rain on Weathers.
I don’t mind these match-ups. If you lose, well – what did you expect?
But if you win, maybe you get in his head.
It’s really all upside.
Still no lineup. Boone is probably fighting for Volpe to stay up.
That was great, almost LOL.. but it’s probably true.
And start. He hit a double on Wednesday. He can build on that.
Not sure how many Community fans there are here, but every time I think about Volpe I imagine substituting his name for Britta’s in the line: “Volpe’s the worst!”
Volpe saved for another day! No Dominguez activation today.
Let’s see if Boone still fucking STARTS him, though.
Nope, no Volpe in the starting lineup tonight.
T Grisham (L) CF
B Rice (L) DH
P Goldschmidt (R) 1B
C Bellinger (L) LF
J Chisholm Jr. (L) 2B
S Jones (L) RF
J Caballero (R) SS
R McMahon (L) 3B
J Escarra (L) C
Boone must be crying somewhere.
Martian has been hitting well from the right side. I’d be surprised he’s not here, except it’s the Yankees
