It’s so annoying that the Mets sucked so much and PERALTA sucked so much that the Rays were both able to pick him up AND pick him up pretty darn cheaply, too.
His peripherals haven’t been amazing since he joined the Rays, but the results have been really good, so hopefully the Yankees don’t fucking suck again in this series offensively.
Could they win this series still if they lose tonight? Sure, I guess, but come on, this is really the series right here for the Yankees.
How long does it take Cam to hit 90 pitches?
Two innings?
Kay with an argument to replace MacMahon with Caballero.
I’d take Caballero right now over McMahon and Melky + IPK.
The Indians/Whatevers have five hits so far in their series.
If they lose this game tonight they deserve to lose this series. Which is good, because if they lose tonight, they will.
Platoon-heavy lineup is risky. Peralta might have a significant conventional platoon split this year, but on his career he’s been pretty even. If Peralta has a feel for his changeup today then he could throw it to just about everybody.
I would have Caballero in for McMahon, and possibly even Ramos in for Grisham.
I might agree, but at the same time it’s hard to imagine those being the key call. Any of those players can suddenly have a great game, we’ve seen it. But on average Ramos just isn’t that good or Grisham that bad that there’s a clearly better call.
Already getting killed by hard contact doing nothing.
Thank god Luis Garcia is right there in the 3 hole.
We don’t need no stinkin’ hits.
Just absurd BABIP.
how did we get fleeced by the rockies?
BABIP canNOT be like this.
I mean for F*’s sake!
Boone was explaining how he wanted MacMahon in for defense. Fielding run value 47th percentile
Schlittler has been so fucked this inning.
Just the most embarrassing shit every playoff game.
I’m tired, boss.
Like with Wells, there’s just no possible explanation for why you would do that. He had NO PLAY at first. What was he doing!?
Wells was worse. Jazz has a star complex.
Oh, Wells was worse, but in both cases, just no reason for it.
Fundamentally unsound
Two error first. Yesterday Wells, today MacMahon and Jazz. The Dodgers were right.
Third error of the inning. Holy shit.
Okay, they really deserve to lose this game already.
Three error first. Boone’s teams play stupid.
That’s enough Jazz for tonight.
That’s enough Jazz for tonight.
Almost a 4th. Big game Jazz.
he has confidence
Seriously would have been the FOURTH error in the first five batters.
When you have the greatest offensive 2b since Rogers Hornsby you accept some glitches.
But none of this is on Boone!
One inning, so much ‘Yankees, the way we play baseball’ at work.
Hilariously, all of that and his pitch count wasn’t even THAT high.
How can the organization not see that they play the game badly?
When other teams speak about it out loud?
It’s an embarrassment.
The McMahon and Wells errors were normal screwups. Only the Jazz error stood out as being particularly bad, and Jazz is normally a good defender.
Oh hey, Jazz manages to get a routine grounder over to first without somehow hitting the ump in the dick. Improvement.
I blame the long past his use-by date GM. He tolerates this type of fundamental slop and brings in guys like McMahon, signed Grisham off a career year, etc.
No doubt the Yankees hitters are eager to step up and respond.
Really making him throw pitches
This BABIP has to revert to the mean, right? They keep hitting it hard for outs.
In 2027.
Always amazed when Chisholm has this kind of long at-bat.
Damn.
But still, the pitch count is a bit less profoundly disturbing now.
Well, after Game 1, what you definitely want is to go 6 up and 6 down, and commit three errors.
XBA inning 1 Rice 040, Cody 620. 2nd Spence 240. Lombard 410.
So frustrating.
BABIP.
Again.
Again.
Again.
Again.
Again.
BABIP bears bonus by boneheads’ bobbling batted balls.
You know, if they lose this game and therefore the series, and there’s no baseball next year, is that the entirety of the window? Judge and Cole ain’t gonna be the same players in two years.
They had decent attendance, isn’t that what’s important?
That was a strike. No?
That was a strike, should be 0-1
It’s the GM who tolerates all the sloppy play and managerial ineptitude.
Maybe we won’t win a World Series, but we got Apollo Management. YES!!
Cam’s going to make it through three innings tonight.
Not ideal, but he’s been battling really well, honestly.
He’s battling. Not getting a lot of help.
You know what’s nice? Pitching three outs per inning instead of six.
Freddy’s gonna do it nine times.
Wow, how the Rays home-recorded the Yankees into committing errors they obviously didn’t commit on their own.
Such BS.
i hate trent, he embodies everything i can’t stand about this team. can’t wait for him to go.
Cam barely had time to take a leak before he had to go right back out there.
Congratulations to Freddy Peralta on his first career perfect game. And in the postseason no less.
It’s not like Peralta was even fooling the good hitters. They just all hit them at guys. It’s really very annoying.
They are hitting Cam, too.
Yeah, to be fair, on TOP of the errors, they also ARE hitting him.
Yankee team BA 235, Rays 258. Is BA undervalued now?
Nice battling by Cam, really.
Cam’s not going down without a fight at least.
Battlecam
If the Yankees getting starched means I don’t have to see any more fucking Liberty Bibberty commercials this year it might be worth it.
Deluca’s ground out was 108 mph per Savant with an xba of 430. Their numbers are inflated but still
Yeah, to be fair, they have also had some bad BABIP luck, too.
Rice, buddy, how do you not challenge that?!
RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICE!
Tied on rounds. Way behind on points.
Damn, but at this point you’ll take it, right?
Is Adelaide Byrd at the table?
Just need to go back to back to back to back to back to back to back to back to back to back to back to feel safe
Rice was, like, “Okay, fuck BABIP. Let’s see you defend THIS.”
BABIP Bellinger!
The impossible
Non ideal approach by LGJ there.
Surprised Walls didn’t make that play
Jesus, Garcia!
You gotta steal here, Spencer.
Where, oh where would this team be without Constanbenny Ricetinez?
Garcia went from being great to being Ramos from the left.
Garcia last 14 days before playoffs 105/150/105
The crowd had been so good for Tampa Bay, so it was interesting just HOW loud it got for that Rice homer.
Kirschner “ Rays have eight hard-hit balls against Schlittler through three innings but just one run to show for it.
Rays are 0-for-8 with RISP tonight with 6 LOB.”
They LOVE throwing balls to Walls, when he’s the one guy you can go at with strikes the EASIEST.
Cam listened
Hopefully that hamstring is healing, Grisham!
Ugh, they hit it so hard.
Don’t make Peralta work, heaven forfend, you dipshits.
Hopefully Trent you’ll remember the one thing you’re ok at is hitting home runs.
I said before Wells should be hitting much higher in the order.
Wells remembering how to hit is ENORMOUS. Please let it keep going!
How are you letting McMahon hit here?!
McMahon comes to the plate, but “hit”?
Boone’s dampening effect is underestimated, even by us.
He’s just the WORST.
McMahon looks completely lost. This sure is some shitty managing here.
A HR with people on base would be nice, Rice.
Who here would have thought that this dude wouldn’t have even made it through five after the third inning?
(Daltrey’s voice:)
“They say he’s a moe-ron. The worst… I’ve eeee… ver seen………………………..
The worst I’ve ever seeeeeen!!!!
in the meanwhile, shockingly good outcome of McMahon’s at bat
Walking Rice was probably the right move.
Oof!
Oh, for F*s sake.
Close, of course.
BABIP gods fucking HATE us.
Velo 102.9. 405 feet. XBA 760. Home run in 12/30 parks.
Man, Spencer really makes some terrible reads.
he should be in center i 100% don’t blame him
I really dislike this game.
I really dislike this game.
Boy, do I hate that the contact play works for other teams but never the Yankees.
It looked like he had a play at the plate, didn’t it?
No way. Had Jazz been further up, yes, but not where he was.
yeah, jazz took a step back at first which didn’t help but there was lots of time.
just a brutal game.
It’s a good point about Jazz being positioned pretty far back for some reason. That’s on the coaches, not Jazz.
Unless Jazz just blew the assignment.
I don’t think you can blow THAT assignment, because it’s right in front of the coaches.
Ah, well.
Contact play always works.
Why does it never work for the Yankees?
Part of it is that they had the contact play on when they had one of the best contact guys in the game at the plate, ya know? Just terrible timing.
Of course, Cam had to first give up the booming double to Caminero.
I am so tired of watching these guys eat their own balls as soon as it’s October.
Even if Lombard fields that cleanly, I doubt he gets either the runner at home OR the runner at first. It’s a tough error call.
Ah, well. You can’t say your not getting beat by the better team.
How are they challenging that?! Their replay guy is terrible.
I’m a White Sox fan now
Not going to be enough to overturn
LOL
This one is done. Unless! The Rays bring in some Bosox relievers.
What’s the record for errors in a nine inning game?
And that’s with them NOT giving Lombard the error on the Simpson groundball, and with Lombard saving Jazz from an error in the first.
Should be 5 errors.
What a shitshow for everyone involved.
Time for Monday night football
Broadcaster out managing Boone. Don’t take much.
See you in 2028, boys.
is that when grand theft auto comes out?
It’s so much easier to root for teams that run the bases and field their positions like TB or even the Dodgers.
Can I dream that if they lose this badly Boone gets the axe? This is major league embarrassing. Much worse than the 2024 WS.
Dream quickly, the second they’re eliminated someone will interview Hal and Cash, who’ll say that the players are the problem, Boone is the only bright spot, they have to give him another team, and they’re extending him until the year 9387 for umpteen gazillion dollars.
on one hand that was in the world series, on the other this entire game has been a disaster.
When this series is over I’ll be rooting for a TB – MIL World Series just so the owners look foolish claiming that small market teams can’t compete without a salary cap.
I could totally see rooting for this Tampa Bay team. If only TB weren’t in Florida…
where is ramos what the fuck
The usual Yankees everyone should have expected; the Bosox series was the outlier.
And thanks to Aaron Judge for playing a month with a minor injury and turning it into a major one. This is one smart team. And I don’t want to hear Judge defend Boone; just shut up if asked or change the subject.
But he won’t, he’ll defend Boone every chance he gets.
The thin blue line protecting us from winning.
5 errors, jfc. I was better off not watching.
Rice is actually for real. So that’s a big deal. Comforting.
Well, it’s not Rice’s fault.
Assuming this game stays as is Boone will be 27-29 as a Yankee manager in the playoffs. While Cash and Hal can ignore this game, no way Boone should be sub 500 after 56 games.
Cashman is a saboteur, and Hal is happy with the $$$$ coming in.
The Yankees, 4 hits, 4 errors.
Prince Hal and Boone alike are nepo babies who don’t understand the concept of accountability.
Cashman is more of a trust fund kiddo, born with Stick Michael’s and Bob Watson’s silver spoons in his mouth.
This team will never win with any of them in charge.
Two games, two runs total, 5 hits, 4 errors (should be 5).
Gotta love how they folded in the 9th.
Curry killing Jazz for being out of position. Where was Boone or the infield coach to yell at Jazz.
Boone Jazz was playing where Boone wanted him.
Of course, he would say that.
I just don’t see how that couldn’t have been their idea. If not, he was SO out of position that someone would have had plenty of time to tell, “Jazz, get into position!”

Yankees Batters in ALDS
Rice/Wells/Bellinger: 5-20, 2 RBI, 2 R
Rest of team: 0-38, 0 RBI, 0 R
Yankees have a .086 Batting Avg over their last 2 games.
That’s the worst BA by an AL team in any 2-game span within a postseason.
Maybe they’ll salvage game 3 with 10 or so runs, then return to who they are in game 4.
2026 Yankees vs 96 Atlanta Braves. Who wins?
NYY Takes
2022: Lose both in Houston return to Yankee Stadium down 0-2
2024: Lose both in LA return to Yankee Stadium down 0-2
2025: lose both in Toronto return to Yankee Stadium down 0-2
2026: lose both in Tampa return to Yankee Stadium down 0-2
The playoffs are a crapshoot. It’s not worth chasing home field advantage. For that matter it’s not even worth trying to build a better roster for the sake of building a better team that can win in the playoffs, even as being a better team, it also happens to win enough to earn home field advantage. Because a better team isn’t guaranteed to win a playoff series. Even if it’s demonstrably better over the course of a full season. Why bother fielding a better team? Why have a team play better baseball? The playoffs are a crapshoot.
The 1996 Yankees made three errors in 15 postseason games; this team made three in one inning.
Some people have remarked that because Cam was under so much stress so often and the Yankees had a long top of the 5th inning, Cam should not have come out for the bottom of the fifth. Francesa mentioned that someone texted him during the game about that.
At around the 5:15 mark.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmX7-bHUQi0
I will admit that I considered that, but ultimately I think they made the right call. He just got crushed by Caminero.
