From Robert Falkoff:
For 10 consecutive regular-season games, the Yankees had figured out ways to beat the Royals. They did it again on Monday when Anthony Volpe delivered a two-strike, two-run single in the ninth inning to give New York a 4-3 victory at Kauffman Stadium.
Bobby Witt Jr. had snapped a 2-2 tie with a leadoff homer in the eighth inning off Jake Bird, and the Yankees were on the ropes. But facing Kansas City closer Lucas Erceg, New York got a one-out infield single from Paul Goldschmidt and a double by Jazz Chisholm Jr. to put runners at second and third.
With the infield in and on a 1-2 count, Volpe served a single to left for the game-winner.
New York’s 11 straight regular-season victories over Kansas City marks the longest winning streak against an opponent since the Yankees took 12 straight from Boston over the 2019-20 seasons.
“It just felt great to contribute and help the team win,” Volpe said. “You do it for this, for the guys. I’m just trying to go out there and compete. Help the team win and have fun. It’s the same game I’ve been playing forever. We have really big goals, and it’s going to take all of us.”
Well, THAT wasn’t one that I think any of us thought that they were going to win. Did you know that the Yankees are, like, second in the Majors in come from behind wins? That seem hard to believe, but it is apparently true.
I know that McMahon got a huge three-run home run just a week ago, but I still wouldn’t mind just running back this lineup and see if they can grow together.

In all seriousness, I don’t think even a blowhard like Jazz would say something like “I hit better when it gets warmer” if he didn’t legitimately believe that there was SOMEthing to it.
It makes no sense for the Yankees to be in on Skubal, right?
never say never I guess but the rotation is pretty deep. The bullpen needs help though. Perhaps in part that comes from Weathers and the AAA kids. Where else is there a need other than 3B?
Skubal’s stuff plays up in the pen.
VJ, LOL
But damn, I bet it really would!
You can never have enough pitching.
The issue with Skubal is that he’ll cost you $40 million a year for, like, nine seasons after this one. And for the right to pay him this offseason, you’ll have to give up Lagrange and EMC plus presumably Lombard.
Does Skubal move the needle THAT much on this season, when their starting pitching has been so dominant already?
If the point is going for it this year, then – no, definitely not. If the point is that this is your real shot at having Skubal for years to come, that’s another matter.
But he’ll be a free agent this season no matter who acquires him, as we just saw with Juan Soto, being acquired doesn’t mean you’ll resign there.
Unless that’s the agreement you make, which also happens (doesn’t it still? or is it outlawed now?) – we trade for him if we get to negotiate a deal with him first.
