From Bryan Hoch:
Two interested observers lingered near Ryan Weathers’ locker late on Monday evening, eavesdropping as the Yankees left-hander revealed he hadn’t been aware a no-hitter was in progress when the game entered the seventh inning.
“I had zero idea,” Weathers said after the Yankees’ 3-2 loss to the Orioles at Camden Yards. “I was walking guys and stuff like that, so I guess it never really rang a bell to me that was going on. It was cool, but I wish we would’ve pulled out a win.”
Weathers may not have been looking at the scoreboard, but his teammates were. When Max Fried and Carlos Rodón found an opening to approach, they first offered handshakes, then hugs. Fried spoke for the clubhouse: “Really good stuff. Keep it going.”
Coby Mayo’s three-run homer off Brent Headrick tipped the balance in the club’s fourth consecutive loss, but Weathers’ rotation mates found plenty to be encouraged about — especially considering the hurler’s hectic last three weeks.
How is THAT your angle on the game? That Weathers didn’t know that he was throwing a no-hitter into the seventh, and not that Brent Headrick gave up a fucking three-run home run, and that the Yankees offense was pathetic again?
Anyhow, at least Weathers pitched really well. That a nice.
Featured image is Headrick allowing his first inherited runners of the season to score. Boone has been leaning on Headrick probably TOO much (I think he’s leading the Majors in appearances). Cashman really needs to add another reliable arm to the bullpen so that Boone doesn’t have to overuse Headrick and Tim Hill.
Mostly, though, the offense needs to remember it’s a good offense and, you know, score some fucking runs!
At least it wasn’t a loss to a team over .500! We can be grateful for THAT, at least!
Look at Headricks game log.
May 3, may 5, may 7, may 9, may 11..,maybe it’s just possible he’s being overused…maybe?
Boone is a dumbass
I wonder if it is time to see what Gil can do out of the pen. I think the Yankees will definitely be exploring some bullpen options.
Doval can be packaged up for anything including a bucket of baseballs.
bucket of tennis balls (used)
He’s dumb, but when the other options suck, I get it.
I’m glad that Rice has recalibrated and is back to hitting. Baltimore pitching can cure what ails (at least some) hitters.
PA With some of their heavy hitters off the roster, the focus has shifted to the likes of recently promoted top prospect George Lombard Jr. and the recently demoted Anthony Volpe. On one end, Lombard is displaying some tremendous plate discipline and hitting the ball hard, but is running into some bad luck. Volpe is struggling considerably, particularly at putting the ball in the air with some mental lapses defensively and on the bases.
Who (not Yankees): 233/767 and 157/558. Brian guessed Tucker, Bichette. Neither one.
Oh man, that is so close to Bichette’s line!
Andy Ibanez sounds like a Cash guy.
The Yankees and Mets tend to like the same castoffs, yeah.
A big, big failure this season has been the inability to even ATTEMPT to make Blackburn a short man.
What was the point of bringing him back if he wasn’t going to be turned into a short man?!
Who (not Yankees): 233/767 and 157/559. The first is Ohtani, the second is Raleigh.
Cabby to the IL, Volpe back.
So everything is going to be okay, everyone!
Jesus wept
I guess they had no other choice.

It would be hilarious is Volpe isn’t even the starter with Cabby on the IL.
“Volpe is struggling considerably, particularly at putting the ball in the air with some mental lapses defensively and on the bases.”
in other words a perfect fit
Talkin’ Yanks. Boone says
-Caballero should need just 10 days to return from finger fracture
-Caballero fought to stay off IL
-Volpe will be everyday shortstop for now
-There wasn’t consideration for anyone besides Volpe
-Expects Caballero to be starter again when back
I think that’s all believable, honestly. We all knew that when he saw a specialist and they wouldn’t let him bat, that he was GOING to go on the IL, but that’s the sort of thing that likely WILL get better in a couple of weeks.
