  1. Why haven’t they called this game…..yet. It’s raining. It rained most of yesterday. Nothing is at stake. Is it for the ticket revenue?

    They said they have made a decision on the game one starter but haven’t announced it yet. Very hush hush.

  2. Curry says he thinks Stanton, Weathers and Grisham will all be on the roster. I could see Grisham platooning with Ramos. I just can’t see wanting Stanton to get any ABs.

  4. It’s the 15 year anniversary of Game 162, (actually was on Sept 28) a day so fun that MLB took pains to make sure that nothing like that could ever happen again.

  14. One of the Astros, White Sox, and Guardians (the 3 teams in the AL playoffs with the worst record) will make the ALCS.

    Meanwhile, only one of the 3 teams with the best record (Rays, Yankees, Red Sox) will make the ALCS.

    I’m not saying anything needs to be done about that and I know it is just circumstance this year but it is still true.

    1. They would all probably have a better record if the schedule were still imbalanced. Having weak teams play almost half their games against their weak division-mates masked the problem for a long time.

      But yeah, I think it supports a need for a payroll floor, not just a ceiling / soft cap, and definitely not a hard cap.

  17. Trent Grisham is “very much in play” to make the roster. Ryan Weathers will potentially throw today before a call is made on him being on the roster.

    Aaron Judge did some hitting in the cage yesterday. Boone said he’s “making progress.”
    No determination if he’ll be on the roster.

    Aaron Boone said they haven’t decided if Giancarlo Stanton will be on the wild card roster yet.

    Aaron Judge said he has been running on an anti-gravity treadmill and that it has been “feeling great.” Said he intends to do more of that today, and potentially outdoor running. “We’ll see what we’ve got.”

  23. Kirschner Looks like Aaron Judge’s day vs. live ABs is over.

    He got four plate appearances. Two walks, a strikeout looking and a ground ball back to the pitcher.

    He did not participate in defensive drills nor did he run.

  25. When did MLB switch to this fixed bracket system? In the past, didn’t the top seed always play the lowest remaining seed after the WC round? Or am I thinking about the NFL system?

    1. The US Open is thinking of adopting it by having the #2 and #3 tennis players meeting in the qualifying round and the winner playing the #1 in the first round. This way the lesser players have a better chance at winning a major.

    2. Just the NFL does that. The NBA is locked into a specific bracket like MLB. The NBA, though, stopped guaranteeing division winners top seeds YEARS ago, and just seed by record.

    The Yankees will push forward without their injured captain, but they have reinforcements.

    2. Willis Reed, sure, and for game 2 how about Lou Gehrig?
      Joe Namath for game 3 if necessary, he’s predicting a win. Plus he’s still alive.

    1. That’s actually a decent roster, apart from the guy who hasn’t played all year. No idea how Stanton will actually get the bat around in time to hit Chapman when they PH him for McMahon. Maybe if he starts his swing from the on-deck circle.

    1. Jazz wasn’t out that long and he got into three games. Grisham was out a month which is not ideal but he could be ok-hopefully only in a platoon role. As for Stanton, I can’t imagine him being anything but a negative.

  32. Since Tolle has neutral to somewhat reverse splits I would definitely go Jazz over phenom. Jazz is also the better defensive option. I’d also not go Rosario and his crap defense for the same reason. Boone’s lineup seems more pointed to a LHP with normal split.
