    1. Yeah maybe but I’d like to see Bednar, Blackburn, and Headrick be lights out in their final outing.

I also would’ve liked to see Jazz hit a home run
      .

  1. Yankees play Boston, winner plays Tampa in the ALDS. The other division of the ALDS contains none of the 3 best teams in the AL. Way to diminish the regular season.

  2. Also, I hate PR.
“Day for the ages: Verlander’s final start, incredible father-daughter moment AND a walk-off HR!”
I saw it. I was not incredulous.
    …
I mean, nice, he’s earned them letting him do it, I hope they enjoyed it.

  3. From Kate S —

Pitchers that had a season with:
    ✅ sub-2.00 ERA
    ✅ sub-0.95 WHIP
    ✅ at least 11 K/9
    ✅ at least 180 IP

    2026 Cam Schlittler
    2018 Jacob deGrom
    2000 Pedro Martinez
    1997 Pedro Martinez

  4. Colson Montgomery has broken Mark Reynolds’ record with his 224th strikeout this season. Kyle Schwarber, is sitting at 218, an outside shot to join him with 2 games vs. the Rays left.

A full season of Spencer will challenge that.

  5. Pinstripe Alley has a rundown on Yankee ‘prospects’ AA thru low A. This guy stood out in an otherwise uninspiring crew.
“ OF Yostin Pena: I will try to not be a prisoner of the moment, but this might be the best prospect in the system. A 6-foot-4 athletic freak from the D.R., Pena is just 18 years old and hit historically well in the DSL, becoming the first Yankee in nine years to skip the GCL/FCL and go straight to full-season ball, where he barely slowed down. He finished the season hitting over .350 with truly alien exit velocities for a player his age, strong defense in center field (with a cannon for an arm), and plus-plus speed. This is the most tool-heavy guy in the entire system and I am super excited about 2027 for him.”

    1. Nifty writeup. I do kind of wonder how much is the author’s firsthand observations / primary analysis and how much is filtered through other writeups / organizational media. Language like “athletic freak” and “truly alien” reminds me of the way Dominguez was hyped and makes me a bit wary. But I frankly don’t care whether he’s 18 or 22, and whether he gets to MLB at 19 or at 25; to me the question is, can he play the game? While it’s nice to have athletic/toolsy prospects, I’d much rather read that a player already took good routes, made sound decisions, knew when to swing for contact and when to swing for the fences, etc, since the Yankees don’t seem to be able to teach any of that.

    2. So much of what makes Pena stand out is based on his age, though. He’s really well-developed for 18, meaning that you would think he could evolve quickly as he ages (you know, if he’s this good at 18, what will he look like at 21?), and that is less impressive if he is a good deal older.
