When you call more than 5,000 consecutive games, as John Sterling did, a trusted formula tends to emerge. The legendary broadcaster once said he favored power-hitting lineups, understanding that teams that made things happen gave him room to entertain and “do my act.”
The Yankees delivered that kind of night.
Aaron Judge followed an emotional pregame ceremony by belting his 14th home run, backing Cam Schlittler and helping fuel a late barrage to complete a four-game sweep of the Orioles with a 12-1 victory on Monday at Yankee Stadium.
Cam Schlittler looked as human as he has looked all season long, and he still nearly got through six innings without allowing a single run, that’s how dominant he has been. He just totally lost the plate in the sixth inning, and somehow, Jake Bird didn’t add three more earned runs to Schlittler’s record, instead striking out the only batter he faced to escape trouble in the inning.
The Yankees then tacked on a bunch more runs, and were able to celebrate with a tribute to John Sterling with a “Theeeeeee Yankees win!,” which is our featured image today. Judge noted that the Yankees weren’t going to lose today in honor of Sterling.
Great win, but boy, I sure would like for the Rays to stop fucking winning so much. They’re clearly not even that good!! It’s all smoke and mirrors, and I know that that will eventually catch up to them, but it would be nice if it would catch up to them a little fucking sooner!

Rays fans are probably saying the same thing about the Yankees. “When are they going to start losing the way they always do? Oh yeah that starts in late June or July. We will have to wait.”
Not quite the same vibe when it’s directed as a team that’s been in the playoffs for 8 of the last 9 years.
The Yankees have the best run differential in the league by far, it’s pretty expected that they’re winning so much.
The Rays are barely double digits in positive run differential and are a game back in the loss column!
When a team outperforms its Pythag, then sure it could be dumb luck, or it could be that they have a competent manager.
Also, the Yankees could have easily avoided this “Rays undeservedly close” nonsense if they hadn’t been swept in Tampa last month. And if they want to put it to rest, they could, you know, just win the season series.
It’s hilarious that the only other teams in the AL with winning records are the ones who have won most of the series this season that the Yankees have lost. And if I recall correctly, we’re talking a 1-5 record and a -4 run differential in those six games.
Not the most promising of pitching matchups tonight.
ERC vs DeGrom doesn’t seem fair. Maybe we should rest all the regulars.
You gotta play to win today, because Eovaldi will be throwing a perfect game tomorrow.
Thankfully a few of the lefties have hit DeGrom well in the past. Maybe Jasson can ask Belli how he does it.
Rodon pitching at Scranton tonight. This will probably be his last rehab start assuming things go well.
Giancarlo Stanton (right calf) has yet to resume running. The injury is lingering “a little bit,” Aaron Boone said, and they haven’t wanted to push it.
