Not exactly a fair fight in this one, and nor is tomorrow’s matchup any better. This might be the first series loss they’ve had in a while.
What I’m really watching here is Dominguez. If he can come to life and be anything like the player he looked to be before the injury, that would be utterly tranformational for this offense.
And, honestly, for our perception of this organization. Judge being the only big hit over two decades would be depressing. Three home-grown studs on this team right now would be a very, very different look!
Seriously? Ryan McMahon is who really stood out to you in that sweep, Kay? Jeez, he’s gone from unspeakably bad to tolerable but don’t expect much. He’s the last guy I’m really focusing on.
Walking Evan Carter, ungood. Then walking Seager.
I hate this. Two strikes and then can’t throw strikes anymore.
Just throw f*ing strikes, man!
Throw some fucking strikes already.
Never expected to win this anyway. Small sample WBC 3ip 3 walks ERC.
At least he didn’t walk him. 🤔
Gil could’ve done this
He’s close. Some of those pitches have lookes great.
Maybe it’s being new to MLB, needs a break.
Maybe.
He doesn’t look far off.
What a revolting mess.
See, that’s a good sign. He was ahead in the count – and DID throw a strike.
And got a ground ball.
Listen to Girardi!
Now a WP for a run.
That only took 37 pitches.
Hey we just scored 37 runs in 4 games.
Never a better night for DeGrom to get his compulsory season-ending injury.
Nice, Judgey!
Bellinger!
Honestly, whatever, young guys sometimes do nonsense like this. This is sort of trial by fire, and then Rodon replaces him next week.
It wasn’t that horrible. I can see him being good.
Yes, I agree. That’s what I mean. Young guys sometimes do nonsense like this, and still end up being good.
Dammit, Jasson
Dammit, Jazz. What the hell kind of a pitch was that to swing nowhere near?
Well, 211/625.
OTOH DeGrom getting hit harder than Elmer.
Jazz started to heat up and then 4/22
Pigs can fly! McMahon 2R HR ties it.
Well I’ll be a ring tailed gopher.
McMahon 289/711 last 14 days before this game.
Seems like everybody’s heating up except Jazz.
Rodon not exactly lights out, 6.1ip 6r 5er 7h 2bb 4k.
There’s absolutely no reason to rush him, so they probably will.
Boone/Cash sound committed.
Whoever they brought in in the 2nd is better than the opener.
How do you not swing at that with two strikes? There’s no way he could have thought it would end up out of the zone.
Bad luck single
Lombard 0-3, 2 walks, 200/585 AAA. phenom 2-4, Spence 1-4, 3 run home run.
Jazz deslumping?
So that counts as 10 home runs, Jazz will argue?
In all seriousness, it’s NEVER a good time for Tim Hill to pitch like shit, but, well, right now specifically. 😉
And turn it over to Cruz.
Even with the two hits, I’d still have kept Hill in.
The Rays are just the opposite of cursed.
Wow.
McMahon working to justify Kay’s attention.
That was fantastic.
I’m really coming to love the Knight.
How is THAT the reason why you pull DeGrom?!
Oh my god, this dude has an awesome barrel every third at-bat and gets NOTHING to show for it!
BELLI!
Man, they should NOT have pulled DeGrom.
Cruz, dude, PLEASE throw strikes!
Is this going to be a five-out save for Bednar?
Had to hit a batter, eh, Cruz?
I love how Cruz starting the batter with a strike versus Cruz starting the batter with a ball is night and day.
I don’t get these dudes who just COMPLETELY lose the plate. Remember how Clay Holmes would do that? This is why Cruz can NEVER be the fucking eighth inning guy. EVER.
And I LIKE Cruz. I truly do. Just never in a role like this.
Holy shit, Bednar, that was fucking NUTS!
Rays win again.
I can’t complain about it tonight, as the Yankees really shouldn’t be ahead in this one, either.
Bellinger 889
Kyle Tucker 711
Good thing Cash didn’t listen to us.
If you’re saying that in two year’s time, I’ll be impressed.
I guess this game does not quite rate a WHEE but with the bases loaded in the first facing DeGrom what was the win probability?
Going for a triple there was kind of douchey.
Still pissed about that triple.
That was the most unexpected win of the season from before the game started, and once the game started even more so. Are they this good or just lucky hot streak?
you can’t blow your playoff position if you don’t have one to start. No luck here, just inevitability.

I truly think Rodon and Cole are just going testing whether their arms are healthy or not, building up velocity and arm strength, not really worried about the results.
Yeah for Cole. He knows it will be a while. I’m not so sure about Rodon.
What kind of a game-situation test is it if they don’t take it as a game situation?
Just throw in the bullpen if you’re going to do that.
I went to the game tonight as I’m in NY and my daughter, who’s in college here, wanted to see a game. She’s not exactly a fan, but she likes baseball (one of her must-dos this summer is a Dodger game).
I was pretty nervous about the pitching matchup, and more so after the top of the first…
There was Uber Eats ordering to our seats, but it wouldn’t work, so we went to get food. I waited in a short line that took forever but encouraged my daughter to go watch while I waited so she saw McMahon’s home run and I didn’t. I was happy she did though!
She remembered both Bellinger and Seager from Dodger games when she was younger and recalled that Belli was great and then he stunk. She was pleased he’s good again and of course the RBI hit was thrilling.
Caballero’s bunt hit was SICK. Happened right in front of us. Don’t know if that was called or he did it on his own but that’s the kind of play you don’t forget.
I warned her that Cruz was a headcase and was somewhat pleased to be proved right…
I don’t know if you would know this if you weren’t in the stadium, but when Bednar comes in the stadium field lights go off and there’s a light show and they play Renegade by Styx. Colossally lame. Stop trying to make fetch happen.
That said, Bednar clearly had the best stuff of any pitcher tonight. Sizzling. My daughter said the sound of the pitch hitting the mitt sounded like the crack of a bat.
All in all a great game and I have to say my daughter does have a very good track record of winning ball games, which is nice, because it makes her want to see more ball games.
Awesome! If she’s good enough at winning ballgames to beat DeGrom, do you think maybe the Yankees would pay her room and board for the summer and maybe even give her a job, or at least season tickets?
Great story, UJD!
That was fun to read.
ERC optioned after the game, so Rodon is definitely back next time the rotation spot comes around. I imagine they’ll call up Yerry until then (maybe they’ll finally call Cruz up!).
Cole today in A ball 4.1ip 5r 7h 4 K. A ball should be better without trying.
