From Bryan Hoch:
Juan Soto has pretty much done it all through his first series with the Yankees, spraying line drives across the outfield while making sliding grabs and strong throws. It was about time he cleared the fences, too.
Soto connected for his first Yankees home run on Saturday evening at Minute Maid Park, cracking a solo seventh-inning homer off Bryan Abreu that helped New York to a 5-3 win over the Astros.
The Statcast-projected 349-foot drive came two batters after Oswaldo Cabrera continued to swing a hot bat, lifting a game-tying two-run homer just over the right-field wall.
Soto’s drive could have been a two-run shot, but Abreu picked Trent Grisham off first base just before Soto launched an 87.5 mph slider into the left-field Crawford Boxes.
Anthony Volpe added an eighth-inning homer as the Yankees improved to 3-0 and notched their sixth consecutive win at Minute Maid Park, dating to last September.
This Yankee outfield celebration thing is hilarious. I can’t wait until Judge and Soto are pulling it off with The Martian, and Verduo is buried on the Yankees’ bench.
In any event, Marcus Stroman had a strong debut for the Yankees, the first New York starting pitcher who looked outright GOOD as opposed to “Good…except for when he sucked” like Cortes and Rodon (who, to be fair, at least DID look good in a lot of their respective starts). Stroman also gave the Yankees a much-needed six innings.
Ian Hamilton was a stud again, and Clay Holmes was fine against the bottom of the lineup.
Meanwhile, Juan Soto, Oswaldo Cabrera and Anthony Volpe continue to carry the Yankees offensively, just like I’m sure we all expected.
Winning the opening series is already so much better than expected, dare we even imagine more than that?
I would love to see a House Money lineup tomorrow, but I don’t think we can get Ohtani without giving up Spencer Jones.
Just saw the new website was up. Been reading for 20ish years now. Really missed it.
How do I block Don?
lol, welcome
Missed most of the game watching both UConn games, but I was lucky enough to tune in for the Cabrera and Soto HRs.
No futzing around 2pm YES

A Judge (R) CF
A Rizzo (L) 1B
G Stanton (R) DH
A Verdugo (L) LF
A Volpe (R) SS

They decided to put the heavy hitters at the bottom of the lineup, I see.
Volpe scratched with “upset stomach,” Waldo to SS, Berti to 3b.
