From Bryan Hoch:
Trent Grisham has gone unrewarded for hard contact early this season, an unlucky streak the Yankees believed would eventually correct itself. His big sixth-inning hit on Thursday afternoon could be the turning point they’ve been waiting for.
Grisham belted a bases-clearing double to the gap in left-center field, highlighting a six-run outburst as the Yankees rallied to wrap their strong homestand with a 9-2 victory over the Rangers at Yankee Stadium.
“He has had the worst luck,” said infielder Ryan McMahon. “The guy is squaring up the ball. He’s super steady, though. He comes to the ballpark every single day with a good attitude and just knows that’s part of the game. It’s obviously good to see him find some grass.”
The Yanks’ sixth win in their last seven games — and their 16th in 19 games — was tinged by concern for Jasson Domínguez, who was carted off the field after colliding with the left-field wall while making an excellent first-inning play.
Domínguez robbed Brandon Nimmo of an extra-base hit with a lunging grab. The team said Domínguez was placed into concussion protocol and will be placed on the injured list after an MRI revealed a low-grade strain to the outfielder’s left AC joint.
Spencer Jones will be promoted from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, set to make his Major League debut during the club’s upcoming series against the Brewers in Milwaukee.
I love how, when a player is slumping or, in the case of Grisham, dealing with some extremely bad BABIP luck, any time they get a big hit, it’s, like, “This could be the turning point!”
Or, you know, maybe it is just one fucking hit.
It’s just too silly.
In any event, this was an outstanding victory for the Yankees. This team’s ability to score late is excellent. In addition, something bebop has brought up a number of times is the idea that when a team is strong, they can BEAT the best pitchers, and the Yankees have now defeated Jacob DeGrom twice in a row. That’s impressive as fuck.
They’ve beaten up on Logan Webb, Robbie Ray, Logan Gilbert, George Kirby, Mackenzie Gore, and they’ve beaten Ranger Suarez, as well (“just” four runs, so not really beating him up).
The Miz might be a bit too much for them, especially with likely no Ben Rice and with Spencer Jones stepping in to strike out six times tonight.

Signs. Bill James chapter on signs and luck was definitive and a welcome antidote to Branch Rickey’s more secular theory.
“Luck is the residue of da pine.” – George Brett
… and with that inane joke, I just also realized that when you anagram “Da Pine”, you get “Pineda.”
If Spencer Jones strikes out six times that will be an excellent sign.

Good to see Rice in the lineup. Hope he’s actually healed enough to play the field. Could totally have let him DH, put Belli at first, and Jones in CF or LF…
excited to see spencer and a good team from the good league.
i will settle for no less than a sweep.
