Duke Ellis is up, but just temporarily, until Jon Berti is ready. You have to hope they’re just delaying the debut of The Martian for service manipulation purposes, but you can never tell with this fucking team.
I’m really curious to see what Effross looks like now. He was so good in 2022, but, well, you know, it’s 2024 now.
It would be nice if Judge and Soto could hit like Judge and Soto today. A nice return by Rizzo would be swell, too.
Vertigo August 204/549 which is more than enough to lock up a starting job. By comparison Ellsbury OPS as a Yankee was 716, 750 in his final season.
The Martin’s last 15 games: 355/394/516 which sounds pretty good to me but seemingly not to Boone or Cashman.
Gil AA 3ip 3r 4h 2bb 5k. Not good.
That hit an run worked out well.
I see the MLB dot com hed says “Yankees get big bat back,” meaning Rizzo
LOL!
How about a promotion to Scranton?
https://x.com/sompatriots/status/1830305392141750500?s=61&t=fhOaqwtc8q2TMSXUDRjPeg
Not gonna happen till next year, unless there’s some phantom-IL shenanigans with Verdugo and/or Grisham.
But think of how good the Scranton outfield could be all next year, with Dominguez, Jones, and Pereira. Could probably outdo the Yankees’ actual outfield which will again be Judge plus two replacement-level veterans, after Soto signs with an actual contender.
Yeah, they are going to try to let Jones finish the year strong.
My take: He’s had a hot 5 weeks, let him stay where he is and not face robot balls and strikes in AAA right now.
Rizzo 28th and 29th in all offensive categories for first baseman.
And in his first AB he hit it where DJ would.
I think he [Rizzo] is done, maybe 10% he isn’t. It would be nice if he proved that 10% correct.
Speed Jazz.
I don’t think Nestor is nasty today
Nestor is depressingly bad today.
And that was BEFORE the home run. Maybe Poteet and Schmidt get added to the rotation.
My comment was before the 3 runs. But it was quite obvious to me. But not to the idiot in the dugout.
Pitchers sometimes have bad games, it happens. It is just very annoying.
Nasty indeed. Blecch.
It would be funny if this team wins the Series
Not unthinkable. They did 18 years ago with a pretty similar record.
In 2000 they had Petitte, Clemens and El Duque plus Mo. They had one bad month.
Sorry YC, I presumed UJD was talking about Cardinals, so was referring to their ’06 squad (83-78, WS champions).
Because the way these teams are playing today, the Yankees have no shot.
I meant the Yankees, but also teh Cardinals
Sure Cortes had some bad luck but he did give up that home run. How do you feel about him or Rodon pitching in a playoff rubber game?
As for the offense, Mikolas is bad as was Corbin and Gibson and Freeland and quite
a few others. Even yesterday’s rally need 2 infield hits to be a CT. Today one of our 2 runs was a gift from the Card’s defense. This offense is a problem. This team is not terrible but it’s certainly not good. BTW Mikolas, Corbin and Gibson all RIGHTHANDERS.
Thanks, Nestor, for turning today into Will Warren day.
Hal ‘Scrooge McDuck’ Steinbrenner: what are the fans mad about?
Our talent evaluators determined Effross was ready despite his underwhelming 3.75 era at Scranton.
Oh BTW Martian not ready.
Thanks for the commentary, now I know not even to open gameday
more red lines than blue lines
More bad bullpen stuff. They’ve been pretty bad for a good while now. Blake’s Magic© would be canceled by George.
Cards 6 and 7 hitter 6/6. Can you imagine a game where say Verdugo, Rizzo and Volpe 60 6/6.
Does any team make bad pitchers look so good as the Yankees do?
No.
Shit even I got that name that Yankee. That was not a 9. That was about the third one I ever got right.
Am I the only one conflicted when Verdugo gets a big hit.
Doesn’t matter if it’s Soto or Judge or Verdugo or DJ. The Yankees have the knack.
Can you have a CT in the 5th?
Wow, Soto rally killing with a DP.
The Cards were the 23 worst hitting team in baseball before this series.
Soto 4 for 24 with some huge outs. Even the best struggle but with this team if judge or Soto aren’t hitting they’re done.
Man, it’s so unusual when it is Soto killing the team. What a crappy week by Soto!
mudblood v mudblood, Korea v Philippines. it’s a battle of 3+
update: Filipino ftw
Wouldn’t be surprised if Soto is injured and keeping quiet about it.
Maybe let him take another series off, like he did against the Dodgers?
He’s still hitting the ball hard. He historically has long slumps. he just avoided it here until now.
Shit Gleyber hit that good.
As did Soto. Fuck.
Orioles already up 3-0.
The game matters now, so it’ll be a bad Cousins day.
Kirchner When the Yankees lose this they’ll be 39-39 since June 1.
And that is who they are, a mediocre team with a GM who should have been gone years ago.
This is some crazy ass murphys law shit. Fuck
Kahnle and Cousins have both been great, so neither of them have it today. Awesome.
Well, it’s only a home series against a sub .500 team, what do you expect?
Complete bullpen collapse. Blake’s Magic never was.
The pen is another Yankee strength 6 runs and 7 hits in 2 2/3 so far. Yesterday 3 runs.
Two runs yesterday, no?
tiddle-dee-dee
Now 12-12 against Cards, Nats, Tigers, Halos, White Sox, Detroit, Texas and Rockies recently.
Two weeks ago the White Sox scored a season high in runs. Today St Louis.
The bullpen has been a mess for months, thus the 39-39 record since June 1.
Remind me, what did Cashman do at the trade deadline?
Leiter and De Los in Santos.
That was a nasty slider. Wow.
You’re not getting his career average at first, Paulie.
Can Duke Ellis pitch?
I didn’t know they will still be in first after today.
Fans are there. So Hal is happy. Cashman is sitting there thinking he’s the smartest guy in the world and it’s only bad luck that prevents his massive brain from winning every year. Boone will have another “it’s right in front of us” or whatever nonsense he’s been spouting for an entire half season of mediocre baseball. Year after year, rinse wash repeat. If this team was a stock I’d short it.
that will require a tetanus shot
I’m beginning to understand the premise of marinaccio, major league pitcher.
The Yankees will soon slink off to Texas with tails between their legs.

My dad used to call Paul Oneil the worst .300 hitter he’d ever seen (circa 1994-1997).
I think I can safely refer to this team as the worst first place team I’ve ever seen (if they make it).
Yanks showed some heart today, almost like standing up for oneself against a bully, only to be clobbered by said bully
at least no degrom this series
Does it matter?
it’s gonna be ok.
Tell us about the rabbits.
curse you magic beans!
20+ hits allowed for the second time in the last 10 weeks. The Yankees allowed 20+ hits three times from 2015-23.
Jordan Walker went into the game hitting 143, he went 5/5.
This is why you never think a pitching coach matters so much. There is no magic formula.
Evan more damming stat from Talkin Yanks. The Yankees were 49-21 on June 12th
They’ve gone 30-37 since then
As pointed out above, the White Sox had a season high in runs and hits against this team, now the Cardinals did as well. Both times in the Bronx.
I can just see Cashman and Boone putting their heads together as they wing their way to Texas. Best Texas bbq, Cash, asks Boone. No, Cash, not them, this place is better. Now, Boonie, my choice is best, they have the better bbq brisket. We’ll settle this the proper way, Boonie, rock, paper, scissors.
Listening to Boone recap the game, and the team in general, sound like the game was closer than it seems and the team is doing quite well.
Cousins and Kahnle have both been great. They sucked today. The idea that “Cousins and Kahnle have both been great. They sucked today” leads you to any conclusion is just silly.
curse you magic beans!
“Texas is playing well, St Louis came in playing well, the White Sox were playing well?” (Whoa Nellie)! I know he doesn’t want to knock anyone but this total Pollyanna act is growing stale and it doesn’t seem to helping.
Soto failed to make plays on 95% and 75% catch probability fly balls. Verdugo on a 55%. Does Soto play to shallow? If so is that on him or Boone?
Soto’s rep was that he isn’t a good defender, so who knows.
Per Baseball America, Jasson Dominguez wouldn’t net them a draft pick by winning ROY in 2025 since he’s surpassed the active service time. His time on the IL earlier in the season (not the oblique IL) counts towards service time.
I think they want him to get playoff exp (albeit AAA)
Amusingly, he’s still Rookie of the Year eligible.
fudge
Does that mean if Gil were to win this year he also wouldn’t net them a pick?
I think Stanton changed his stance by moving his front foot more in-line (and less of a closed stance) w his back foot
Is there any other MLB team that would still be starting Verdugo after this much subpar performance? Ladies and gentlemen: your New York Yankees.
schedule looks interesting. big series (obv) against the orioles 2nd to last of season, then Yanks finish up against pirates and orioles against the twins. hopefully the games be super consequential by then but at least the twins will – likely – be playing very hard til the end
Seemingly We will be playing Minny or KC in round one.
so qo to gleyber or nah? it’s around $20mm if accepted.
also, arias seems to not be a bust anymore
Will Judge ever hit another HR? WWWJW.
shake harder, boy!
have no fear, his older, less able, more poorly compensated teammate has come thru
They scored 5 and 7 runs and lost both games. Not the hitting this time.
they’ve had this loser mentality that started with the house money lineups where they wouldn’t sweep ever and continues to today.
win one
lose one
coin flip rubber match
boone and cash don’t care. they can say whatever about fan expectations, but we see it in the fundamentals, missed outs, and yearly collapses.
i think minnesota gets revenge this year unless they start fielding the best team and pretending they care.
I have a hunch about losing to the Twinkies, they’re due.
Not bringing up Jasson means they don’t care.
Drew Thorpe elbow surgery, should be ready ST,
The Athletic-Verdugo’s been better of late, batting .367 (11-for-30) over his past eight games. He also provides strong defense the Yankees prioritize in left field and he’s become a key part of the team’s chemistry.
One evaluator for an opposing team said that Domínguez’s arm strength had been OK of late but had not yet recovered from where it was before the Tommy John surgery he had in October, and that he had been spraying some of his throws. The evaluator added that Domínguez had been prone to misplays in the outfield this season.
Soto threw his weight behind Verdugo.
Why would Soto care about Verdugo? It’s like Judge every once in a while giving props to Boone. Verdugo, per OAA, is -1 this season (Soto -3, Judge -4).
That’s the problem with this team, winning doesn’t really matter to them, and the GM wants to placate his stars. Funniest part is Soto will probably be playing elsewhere after this season.
This isn’t a serious baseball operation in the Bronx.
The powerful Cardinals fall to the Brewers. O’s ahead in the 6th inning.
Tonight Jack Leiter lives up to his second overall draft potential.
Rolling out the second worst LF in mlb for 4 months and then doing the same for a 5th month is a sign 🪧 fba clueless manager and arrogant GM. Doing something similar at 1b at the same time is a sign of insanity, hey maybe we give Warren a 6th start? He’s almost there just had some bad luck blah blah blah. Maybe let our closer blow some more games? Maybe let our superstar CF also be the asst GM? What a stupid team.
I look forward to a month of DJLM and Rizzo stumbling toward October and retirement.
This brings a 💧 to me eye.
Sure, Verdugo after 3+ months of suckitude, has a small hot stretch, wow. Even Volpe had a hot streak, once.
