  1. Vertigo August 204/549 which is more than enough to lock up a starting job. By comparison Ellsbury OPS as a Yankee was 716, 750 in his final season.

The Martin’s last 15 games: 355/394/516 which sounds pretty good to me but seemingly not to Boone or Cashman.

    1. Not gonna happen till next year, unless there’s some phantom-IL shenanigans with Verdugo and/or Grisham.

But think of how good the Scranton outfield could be all next year, with Dominguez, Jones, and Pereira. Could probably outdo the Yankees’ actual outfield which will again be Judge plus two replacement-level veterans, after Soto signs with an actual contender.

    2. My take: He’s had a hot 5 weeks, let him stay where he is and not face robot balls and strikes in AAA right now.

    1. I think he [Rizzo] is done, maybe 10% he isn’t. It would be nice if he proved that 10% correct.

    1. Sorry YC, I presumed UJD was talking about Cardinals, so was referring to their ’06 squad (83-78, WS champions).
Because the way these teams are playing today, the Yankees have no shot.

  2. Sure Cortes had some bad luck but he did give up that home run. How do you feel about him or Rodon pitching in a playoff rubber game?

As for the offense, Mikolas is bad as was Corbin and Gibson and Freeland and quite
a few others. Even yesterday’s rally need 2 infield hits to be a CT. Today one of our 2 runs was a gift from the Card’s defense. This offense is a problem. This team is not terrible but it’s certainly not good. BTW Mikolas, Corbin and Gibson all RIGHTHANDERS.

  3. Fans are there. So Hal is happy. Cashman is sitting there thinking he’s the smartest guy in the world and it’s only bad luck that prevents his massive brain from winning every year. Boone will have another “it’s right in front of us” or whatever nonsense he’s been spouting for an entire half season of mediocre baseball. Year after year, rinse wash repeat. If this team was a stock I’d short it.

  4. My dad used to call Paul Oneil the worst .300 hitter he’d ever seen (circa 1994-1997).

I think I can safely refer to this team as the worst first place team I’ve ever seen (if they make it).

  5. 20+ hits allowed for the second time in the last 10 weeks. The Yankees allowed 20+ hits three times from 2015-23.

Jordan Walker went into the game hitting 143, he went 5/5.

  6. I can just see Cashman and Boone putting their heads together as they wing their way to Texas. Best Texas bbq, Cash, asks Boone. No, Cash, not them, this place is better. Now, Boonie, my choice is best, they have the better bbq brisket. We’ll settle this the proper way, Boonie, rock, paper, scissors.

  7. “Texas is playing well, St Louis came in playing well, the White Sox were playing well?” (Whoa Nellie)! I know he doesn’t want to knock anyone but this total Pollyanna act is growing stale and it doesn’t seem to helping.

  8. Per Baseball America, Jasson Dominguez wouldn’t net them a draft pick by winning ROY in 2025 since he’s surpassed the active service time. His time on the IL earlier in the season (not the oblique IL) counts towards service time.

  9. schedule looks interesting. big series (obv) against the orioles 2nd to last of season, then Yanks finish up against pirates and orioles against the twins. hopefully the games be super consequential by then but at least the twins will – likely – be playing very hard til the end

  10. they’ve had this loser mentality that started with the house money lineups where they wouldn’t sweep ever and continues to today.

    win one
    lose one
    coin flip rubber match

boone and cash don’t care. they can say whatever about fan expectations, but we see it in the fundamentals, missed outs, and yearly collapses.

i think minnesota gets revenge this year unless they start fielding the best team and pretending they care.

  11. The Athletic-Verdugo’s been better of late, batting .367 (11-for-30) over his past eight games. He also provides strong defense the Yankees prioritize in left field and he’s become a key part of the team’s chemistry.
One evaluator for an opposing team said that Domínguez’s arm strength had been OK of late but had not yet recovered from where it was before the Tommy John surgery he had in October, and that he had been spraying some of his throws. The evaluator added that Domínguez had been prone to misplays in the outfield this season.
Soto threw his weight behind Verdugo.

    1. Why would Soto care about Verdugo? It’s like Judge every once in a while giving props to Boone. Verdugo, per OAA, is -1 this season (Soto -3, Judge -4).

That’s the problem with this team, winning doesn’t really matter to them, and the GM wants to placate his stars. Funniest part is Soto will probably be playing elsewhere after this season.

This isn’t a serious baseball operation in the Bronx.

  12. Rolling out the second worst LF in mlb for 4 months and then doing the same for a 5th month is a sign 🪧 fba clueless manager and arrogant GM. Doing something similar at 1b at the same time is a sign of insanity, hey maybe we give Warren a 6th start? He’s almost there just had some bad luck blah blah blah. Maybe let our closer blow some more games? Maybe let our superstar CF also be the asst GM? What a stupid team.

    1. This brings a 💧 to me eye.

Sure, Verdugo after 3+ months of suckitude, has a small hot stretch, wow. Even Volpe had a hot streak, once.
