    1. And well they should. I went to a bizillion games and never, ever got a ball!

    1. Really. But amazing then that Schlittler can be even better as he learns to deal with that kind of thing.
      Here’s hoping.

  1. Well, no one should be surprised that the offense hasn’t scored any more; with Jazz K’ing with a man on third and one out being the worst.

    1. Yeah, that Jazz K was the worst, as he swung right through it. Grisham also taking a called strike three was rooooough. Runner on third, why are you trying to work a walk?!

    1. Cam deserves SOME blame, as well, as he fell apart in the seventh, and allowed the White Sox to get on the board when he was dominating them.

  2. I just saw the Sanchez replay. He didn’t even have his feet set. Where was Murakami going. That home run gave Sanchez a hero complex. Fucking ridiculous loser pickoff attempt with no chance of succeeding. Then Sanchez swings at ball four twice. Fucking loser. Cashman gave us three loser catchers.

    1. To be fair, as bad of a play as it was, it appears as though it was a set play called from the dugout. So Sanchez definitely deserves the majority of the blame with the terrible throw, but the idea of doing that play (which was IDIOTIC. There were two fucking outs!) was Boone’s.

    2. Curry was very clear that throw never should’ve been made and McMahon had to come a long way to try and catch the throw. Boone never said anything about a set play, nor did Ali.

    3. “Nah, just gotta have a good throw. It’s playing catch. We’re big leaguers and we’re not going to not do things. Obviously an option is to hold it. But it comes down to, we’ve got to play catch better there.”

That doesn’t sound like Boone thinks it was a bad idea, so I think it might have been his idea.

  3. Katie S Ali Sanchez has 3 throwing errors and has been the catcher for 656 plate appearances this season.
That’s the worst rate of throwing errors per PA among all catchers (min. 500 PA)

Entering tonight, Yankees fielders had a -6 Fielding Run Value while Camilo Doval was on the mound this season. That’s the worst on the Yankees.
Only 5 MLB pitchers (min. 50 IP) had a worse Fielding Run Value behind them when pitching.

    1. It sounds like it was a “set play” between Sanchez and McMahon. They were likely communicating during the Benintendi at-bat, and they just super fucked it up.

  4. Saying this is Cam’s fault is only stressing how fantastic he his. He had one baserunner in the first… 6 innings? And he left having allowed zero runs with two guys on. If Warren, or Schmidt, or Weathers, or Rodon did that, really if ANYONE else did that, would we be upset or thrilled? He was amazing. Having said that, he was 0-2 on virtually every batter, I can’t recall him ever throwing ball 3. That changed starting in the 5th, you could SEE he was throwing a far higher proportion of balls. So I could kind of see this coming. I would have taken him out at the start of that inning.
Which doesn’t change the basic fact that he threw a great game!

What’s really getting old is the “get some runs and never score again” thing. Although better than the “just get shut down completely” thing, which we’re finally seeing a bit less of.

  5. In the key lead off spot today Trent Grisham last 14 days 071/188/143 and over the last 28 days 156/241/312 on top of his declining defense is fulfilling our worst fears. Batting 9th the man who keeps turning the corner after 245 PAs is at 159/258/266. It’s like having two leadoff batters.
Weathers vs Burke 3.19 makes last night’s loss even worse.
    T Grisham (L) CF
    B Rice (L) 1B
    J Domínguez (S) RF
    P Goldschmidt (R) DH
