    1. What Yogi once said: Baseball is 90 per cent mental. The other half is physical.

Guys have always been around with all the physical tools but never grasped the mental part of the game.

  1. I really hate volpe in the leadoff spot right now. The Yankees seem dedicated to forcing him into extremely challenging situations.

Why not let him settle in where he was?

    1. I do like volpe as a potential lead off option eventually, but not right now, he’s still adjusting. If they needed to move a struggling Gleyber, Verdugo would have been a better decision.

100%. And they say he’s remaining there when DJ returns. It’s just madness.

    1. He’s been very good hitting out of the 6/7 spot and not very good hitting out of the leadoff spot.

Obviously, teams have approaches for each batter, but I think he’s being exposed at the leadoff position more. He did change up his game quite a bit, so teams could just be adjusting to it and he has to figure out how to adjust back.

    1. wonderful. the vivas experience begins

I think they eventually pull him for the rest of the day, but I bet it is ultimately more a momentary issue than a broken foot.

  2. civale confuses me, cutter, splitter, change tail arm side. curve is simple 12-6, 4 seam is straight. I don’t understand how he hasn’t been colostomized yet

  3. It does seem like gil picked up some command/control coming out of tj. a better 3rd pitch would be nice, but his future as a starter is looking up.

    1. I didn’t see the second one, but the first one was debatable, right on the edge, a matter of interpretation.

  4. I’m thinking you have to take the pitcher when you have him on the ropes, with baserunners in every inning (until now, of course)… but I guess it’s better to hit the pitcher and not break through – but at least get the pitch count up a bit – than to not hit the pitcher at all, so – whatever.
    Score already.

    1. What’s your basis for thinking that pitch is suddenly worse? I mean, it’s not based on results, obviously.

    2. it’s a cement mixer. it also visually looks like shit. it’s not breaking much x or y, and it’s the same speed as the power change
