The Red Sox have as many All Stars as the Yankees. That seems kind of annoying.
Then again, the Yankees suck, so I guess it makes sense.
Luis Gil is going to have nightmares tonight about this game. Let’s just hope Ben Rice and the other, lesser, Yankees, like Soto and Judge, make tonight difficult for Crawford, as well.
Did you know that entering today, the Yankees are tied with Baltimore for the best SRS in the Majors? That’s hilarious.
What’s SRS?
Stat based on run differential and strength of schedule.
Well, already one inning better than I expected, in terms of runs allowed.
It sure would be nice to give Gil a lead. Has Gil HAD a lead recently?
Fuck, their luck on these liners has been TERRIBLE this series. 113 MPH!!!
Crushed it, but hung up for some reason. Can’t be that windy.
They always get fucked on these bullshit challenges with their runners, so let’s hope they finally turned the tables.
Tables turned!
An ESPN game and we don’t even get Cone?
My proposed rule on those plays at second is that only the runner or the fielder making the tag should be allowed to challenge (and they have to challenge right away). Players always think they’re safe, so enough lost challenges will keep managers from using the challenges in the future (as they’ll tell their players to stop calling them).
If a player is SURE they’re safe, then sure, challenge it (same when a fielder is SURE they got the player out). But otherwise, it’s nonsense.
Nice pitch to try to pull Tony
Crawford is going to pitch a shutout on 30 pitches.
Yankees worn out from yesterday.
What was Smith doing with his hands?
What’s the injury delay?
Cabrera fouled one directly to the top of his knee.
Thanks!
Fearsome bottom of the order breaks up the incipient no-hitter!
This split screen is so annoying.
Another ball dying at the track.
This split screen is so annoying but not nearly as annoying as Le Machine’s constant ground balls.
It’s truly absurd how he can’t just elevate the ball at ALL.
So you guys are utterly certain that no amount of this from DJLM will knock him off third base? No matter how long he keeps it up?
I suppose when Gleyber is back they might platoon him with Waldo. If Vivas keeps getting on base at a 400+ they might try him. Most likely Cash will find the next Donaldson or maybe even bring Donaldson back.
If DJ leads off he won’t get a hit, but he also won’t hit into a DP.
Not in his first AB, anyway.
Although records, I’ve heard, are made to be broken….
His OBP is sadly still close to every other Yankee regular, so I think they still should let him lead off (so that Rice can give Judge protection). But if not, then he has to bat 9th.
Hey Jared Duran’s an All Star. Idid not know that.
Grrrr.
Soto… we’re at the point where taking pitches would make some sense, and you have the eye to do it, guy.
Holy crap.
They clearly have a specific approach to Crawford tonight, and whoever came up with that approach should be telling them, “Let’s try something different.”
They should let O’Neill design the offensive game plan.
This is the real Yankee offense. Not good in other words.
Does anybody remember the Spring Training game where ESPN was fellating JBJ and declaring him a future HOFer.
At this rate, Crawford could just continue pitching to start tomorrow’s game (if they have a game tomorrow).
I’m just impressed Volpe took a pitch.
And then he swung at a pitch way below the zone like a moron. So never mind.
Can you imagine Gil, having struggled for so many games recently, comes out, pitches this game, and their response is to just fucking SUCK against Kutter fucking Crawford?
It’s mind-boggling.
WHY ARE THEY STILL FIRST PITCH SWINGING??!!? WHY?!?!
Ask the idiot manager
That’s the second AB Volpe tried to pull a pitch well outside.
Wow, this is quite an offensive offense.
Is this Boone’s plan or Rowson’s or the Yankees just think it’s too hot and they’ve got a playoff spot locked.
This is so FUCKING EMBARASSING.
He must be tiring if he can’t put Raffaela away.
Any time we don’t get swept at home, especially by Boston, is a victory.
That was a fucking impressive ass pitch right there to K Duran.
Wow, that was outstanding. It’s interesting, the best bet to win the game is to send him out there for the seventh, but I would almost consider going to the bullpen in the seventh, let him savor this performance for next time. Long term, getting him right has to be the most important thing, ya know?
Those are some pretty heady numbers to leave with, sure. But I could go either way on that.
Interesting
Fewest pitches thru 5 since 2017. Congrats Yankees.
Kutter Crawford is the kind of name that if you encountered it a movie about a violent redneck you’d be like “oh come ON that is not real.” Bad baseball name.
Oh, for Pete’s sake.
So few chances for a double-play today, they weren’t about to miss it when it came around, I guess.
Fucking Yankee baserunning Boone’s team is so fundamentally unsound.
The fucking luck of this team. They hit a line drive, and it’s a double play. And it’s right before DJ LeMahieu hits an actual double. FUCK.
Look, either suck enough that they bench you or do that with some regularity, DJ. Getting just enough hits to earn the right to keep depressing the offense, and me personally, is like the worst of all worlds.
Rice falling back to earth.
Can’t even get on Rice too much. Those were really good pitches.
There’s less than a 10% chance we win this game.
Gil’s balls aren’t even, like, “maybe you’ll offer at them,” they’re, like, in a different COUNTY.
See, I really wouldn’t have let him face Devers a third time. That was exactly my point about taking him out after the sixth. Now he’ll lose the game and feel bad about himself, when he pitched a heck of a game.
SOB.
Dude in the crowd who hucked it back shoulda bounced it off those two Townie fans first.
To go to Weaver NOW, though, AFTER the home run and, more importantly, the second out, though, is inexplicably dumb. If Weaver was going to come in, he should have come in already. Boone is such a shitty manager.
I thought they might bring in Hill for Devers. I would’ve. Devers OPS against RHPs is 300 points higher than against LHPs. But yeah if not what Brian said.
Boone did the same shit on Friday but you got to hand it to him, he refuses to learn. A foolish consistency.
Now Gil can only get a loss. I just don’t get it.
This mini-slump of Soto and Judge could stop any time now.
How do you call timeout after he starts you off with three balls?!
Juan Soto is, like, the only player in the Major Leagues who I’m okay greenlighting on 3-0.
First pitch swinging STILL, Judge?!
Devers vs RHPs 1064, vs LHPs 722. That’s a huge difference. And Boone who makes so many left right dumb decisions didn’t pay attention.
Crawford is making Judge look like Volpe, with his decision-making.
Jesus fucking Christ, Judge, how do you strike out on that shit?!!?
Judge is NOT one of the players I’d be okay greenlighting 3-0.
Was that Stanton or Judge?
FIRST PITCH SWINGING AGAIN?!! WHAT ARE THEY FUCKING DOING?!!?
Verdugo first pitch swinging?
Shocking, I know.
And Volpe, too, first pitch swinging. Can Rowson be tried for these crimes?!
Volpe, you’ve now told Crawford that you’ll swing at ANYTHING. I mean, we all already knew that, but still.
Volpe is one arrogant young man.
It would be a cherry on top of the Stinkees if they lose 1-0.
The key thing is for Holmes to pitch a 1-2-3 ninth in the 1-0 loss.
“True, swinging at the first pitch every time has allowed his pitch count to remain super low, but at least we also haven’t scored any runs, so that’s good!”
The Yankees can’t hit, their pitching has been mostly shit lately, can’t run the bases and are dumb.
Soto is due up in the bottom of the ninth at least.
Friday was legit a shutout if not for Boston’s defense.
Well, that 1-0 lose got ruined, so make it 2-0. Wait, they’ll make it 2-1, amirite?
Now we can score 1.
Dammit. Now if Soto homers it won’t even send them to lose in extras.
And the back to back with Judge only gets a tie.
Screw these guys, Kutter Crawford at 68 pitches in 7-innings. Heads need to roll, but they won’t.
Why in the fucking WORLD would you pull Crawford?
From @EliasSports: The Yankees have not stolen a base in their last 19 games, tying their longest such drought since 1964. (The last time they went 20 consecutive games without a steal was in 1963.)
https://x.com/Buster_ESPN/status/1809940491599016015
A big part of it is that Volpe can’t get on base at all.
If Judge and Soto aren’t hitting this is a last place team.I grade Rice and Wells Inc and everyone else C- or worse.
Boston’s 9 hitter would bat 4 or 5 here. This is the team that Cash built and thanks.
It’s a blessing to have Trent Grisham as an everyday player. An embarassment of riches.
Turned the game off to watch Tango & Cash instead. Vast improvement. Would be true for any buddy cop movie all the way down to K-9.
Watching the WSOP since Devers took advantage of Boone for the 2nd time.
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is pretty good.
KKBB is an all-timer. Almost required to double feature it with The Nice Guys.
This is the bench that Cashman made. This is the bench that not even a good manager could make work.
LeMachine with a weak groundout. Who would have seen that coming?
DJ with the ground out. Does Cashman even watch these games? Does Hal ?
Its one of those things. Every season has ebbs and flows (Boone loves to invoke ebbs and flows).
Not cool, Tonkin!
What’s the difference. This game was over at 1.
0-7-1 in series since? I can’t even remember.
Season of Gloom.
July 7 2022 Yankees 60-22. About to go 55-37 this year.
RAB: “ The Yankees have lost 15 of 20. They’ve had a 5-15 stretch in each of the last three seasons after doing it in only three years from 1996-2021.”
Who’s the manager been the last 3 years? I can’t remember or I’m trying to forget.
In all seriousness, as pathetic as the offense was, Gil’s performance was significant.
You can add hitting, you can’t add pitching like Gil’s tonight.
Yankee videos “ “It feels terrible…but it’s all right there in front of us. This is not the time to feel sorry for yourself, it’s the time to try and get guys going.”
– Aaron Boone on the Yankees’ 6-16 stretch
Now it’s the time to try?
In those 6 wins they scored 8, 4, 8, 16, 8, 14 runs. In the 16 losses they scored more than 4 only 3 times. Is there a certain type of pitcher they can feast upon while everyone else dominates them? Or is this just the blind squirrel finding a really big nut?
omg, he brought the line back.
can someone else manage this team already?
If they can play 500 from here on out they’ll win 90 games…,,
At least, they don’t play Monday, so we have that.
Friday 1 ER (0 really) 6 hits in 10 innings, tonight 0 runs 4 hits. The Yankee press is afraid to really confront Boone about anything, even letting Gil pitch to Deavers.
Boone even liked the ABs of Vertigo and Volpe after Soto’s double. Vertigo hit a ground ball and Volpe a routine fly ball. To Boone not striking out is a victory.
Saw a guy in the subway today with a cap that had the NY (Mets) x NY (Yankees). Sure, why the fuck not
First time since 1990 the Yankees have lost 5 straight home series.
Kirschner Coming into today’s game, they had 4 of the 25 worst hitters by wRC+ since June 13, the most by any team.
Volpe – 32 wRC+ phenom?
LeMahieu – 42 wRC+ Le Machine?
Torres – 65 wRC+
Verdugo – 65 wRC+
And They also came into today’s game with 4 of the worst 25 starting pitchers by ERA since June 13.
Rodón – 10.89 ERA (worst in MLB)
Gil (before today’s start) – 10.43 ERA (3rd worst)
Cole – 6.75 ERA
Stroman – 6.43 ERA
Yankees are the USMNT of baseball: discuss
“Does Cashman even watch these games? Does Hal ?”
Finally, someone’s pinned down what makes Cash and Hal smarter than we are.
good one
