From Bryan Hoch:
Carlos Rodón could barely bend his left arm the last time he faced the Blue Jays, requiring assistance just to button the front of his dress shirt. As the Yankees’ veteran made his first home start of the season, he could have used a different kind of help.
Having showcased big velocity but spotty command through two starts since returning from offseason elbow surgery, Rodón looked more like himself, striking out seven over five innings. But the Yankees’ bats went cold against a parade of Blue Jays pitchers, leading to a 2-0 loss on Thursday in the Bronx.
This is all on the offense, signified by Judge getting the featured image on his only strikeout of the game, but since he had no hits, it’s hard to be too pleased about him not striking out for longer than an already absurdly long SEVEN AT-BATS IN A ROW.
So this is extremely aggravating. That being said, though, at the end of the day, the Yankees offense is averaging the most runs scored per game in the American League this season.
The Yankees pitching/defense is averaging the lowest amount of runs scored against in the American League this season.
These shitty slumps, as annoying as they are, will likely balance out, and this team will be fine. If you’re leading your league in runs scored and leading in fewest runs scored against, you’re probably a good team.
But boy, it sure fucking sucks when they all slump at the same time and can’t hit for SHIT, ya know? Especially when the greatest hitter of this generation can’t do ANYthing.
I didn’t mind using Doval in the seventh inning trailing by a run. You can’t use the same dudes every single game.
As for the recent moves, despite being awesome, Yovanny Cruz was sent down for Gerrit Cole. Hopefully the Yankee begin to let Blackburn get some short man work, or they just trade him somehow. I’d prefer seeing Cruz again. It’s fair to note that Cole might need a long man piggybacking him in his first game back. So I get it, but boy, Cruz looked good, right?
Spencer Jones was sent down for Cabby. I imagine the plan is to play Cabby in left field against righties, and third base against lefties (with Rosario playing left against lefties), while Volpe plays shortstop every day until he sucks so bad that they give it back to Cabby (and maybe call Spencer Jones back up).
Spencer Jones had a real opportunity, and he just sucked. Hopefully he works on some of his shit in the minors.
Vintage Rodon, unfortunately, is no match for vintage WOE.
Vintage Rodon should go 7 or 8 to avoid vintage Shelly Duval
Agreed. He hopefully will go longer next time.
