I find it hard to believe that DHing Amed Rosario is truly the answer while Stanton is out.
The fact that they have Stanton listed as a bench player tonight gives me SOME hope he can avoid an IL stint.
This is a very tough test for Weathers. Let’s hope he responds well.
Asked if he could pinch-hit tonight, Giancarlo Stanton said he hasn’t tried swinging a bat yet, so he’s not sure. Wasn’t sure if he would even try swinging either.

I think if Stanton goes IL they’d recall the Martian and maybe platoon him with Grichuk.
Passan The Boston Red Sox fired manager Alex Cora, hitting coach Peter Fatse, bench coach Ramón Vázquez, third-base coach Kyle Hudson and game-planning coach Jason Varitek, sources tell ESPN.
While the Red Sox won today, they are 10-17 and in last in the American League East. Massive change is coming in Boston.
Kinda weird that this early in the season they’re torally ready to move on from all these people? If Cora was one bad month away from being fired why not replace him over the offseason? This is the FO equivalent of going batter to batter.
You can’t challenge anything in the first let alone with no one on and a 0-0 count.
Three Houston batters, three hard hit balls.
Thrown out trying to steal third with no outs, a LHB up, and the top of the lineup up at bat. TYM.
Trent with an oppo home run.
Judge took a pitch down the middle for a called third strike earlier, then swings at that slop to strike out again.
Folken Dumbkoph. Out stealing third twice. First no outs. Second two nondescript Rice up
Volpe can run into outs like that.
Sure, walk the leadoff batter when you’re up by 4-runs, and on four pitches. Why not?
Jazz waking up, now Wells too. Now, someone wake up Judge and his 229 BA.
What did they do to my Yankees?
I dunno, if Stanton goes on the IL, either it’ll be when Volpe comes off it (with no other roster moves), or if it’s sooner than that, they’ll just bring up another reliever. I don’t think they would bring the Martian up if they’re not giving him everyday reps. They’re not losing an OF in Stanton – even as it’s debatable whether they’d be gaining one in Dominguez – but they’ve already got Judge, Bellinger, Grisham, Grichuk, and in an emergency Rosario. It would take an injury to one of those guys, and probably two, before Jasson came up. Which is too bad, because his bat is clearly ready and he’s worth another try in CF.
The thing that losing Stanton would let them do is to give Judge more DH days.
Per MLB.com in their article on the Townies firing Cora, “Hitting coach Pete Fatse, third-base coach Kyle Hudson, bench coach Ramón Vázquez, assistant hitting coach Dillon Lawson and Major League Hitting strategy coach Joe Cronin were also let go. Game planning and run prevention coach Jason Varitek has been reassigned to a new role within the organization, details of which will be announced at a later date.”
Well, Dillon Lawson explains why they weren’t hitting.
And, um, Joe Cronin as a hitting strategy coach? If he were good at strategy, he would have been working with George Marshall from 1942-1945 and not in the dugout, let alone on the diamond.
I really can’t believe they tried to put this shit on CORA.
But Breslow stays?
I guess it has to be one of the two, and Breslow convinced them that it was Cora fucking up Breslow’s great roster.
I want to believe that Pete Fatse was originally brought on board as a strength and conditioning coach.
The Red Sox were one bad Yankee start away from playing in the ALDS last year…and now everyone has to be fired? Fascinating. Bottom line is Schittler got all these guys fired.
“Volpe can run into outs like that.”
Can he? You have to be on base to do that.
Also, as much as I hate anyone associated with those Houston teams, jeez, HIRE CORA!
He’s not average, he’s a geniunely excellent manager. I feel like Boone to Cora would be like a 30 game swing in the standings (I’m trying to be conservative with that number).

What are the Z’s and D’s?
Your guess is better than mine
they are to signify that all of the Yankees are men of letters, specifically Z or D
I had seen the lefty-righty breakdown and assumed it was a stereochemistry joke, reflecting the players’ chirality; but on further review, that can’t be the reference. In describing isomers, “D” is usually contrasted with “L”, and the “D/L” distinction refers to handedness at a given vertex, as observed via polarization of light; while “Z” and “E” refer to something completely different, ie, same-sidedness or opposite-sidedness across two vertices. Kind of embarrasssed that I’d forgotten that, but goes to show how little I’ve engaged with organic chemistry in the 20 years since the MCAT, despite being a physician-scientist in a subspecialty that quite immediately depends on organic chemistry for its clinical impact, and its scientific methods and logic.
All that to say that a baseball player’s stereochemistry might arbitrarily be designated by stating what batter’s box they use (D vs L) and then whether they throw from the same side (Z) or opposite side (E). Switch hitters would use the (DL) designation, as when referring to racemic compounds.
According to @ChrisCotillo, Trevor Story is not happy with the firings that took place yesterday.
Story wants to clear the air with Breslow today. Says “some of the best coaches in the world didn’t get a fair shot.”
What an absolute mess. This is the leader of your team.
