We talk about pitching “stoppers,” but Gil strikes me as a stopper in the other way, in that he probably stops winning streaks.
Let’s hope that he doesn’t!
Be nice if we could’ve also beat Houston in the playoffs.
In 2004 Gil’s fast ball averaged 96.6 and occasionally roughed 99/100. Now Gil seems to be averaging around 95. Can he add velocity? Can he survive at 94/96?
No Aaron whatever you do ABSOLUTELY DONT limit Jazz’s ability to challenge.
I’m beginning to feel like Spalding Gray, that is when he was alive. Problem is I’m not a good swimmer.
I didn’t comment in the first Royals game, and they won that one, and then they won seven more in a row, so superstition meant I couldn’t comment (or do post-game posts, since I didn’t do one after that annoying Angels blowout) until they lost.
You sir are no Spalding Gray. His game comments were absolute shit.
Gil did Gil things.
That was a fun rally until Caballero.
Never got into CT territory
The Mets, already lost game 1, if they lose game 2, will Cora get a call from them?
I truly think that Yarbrough is the better choice to be the #5 starter until Rodon returns. You can send Gil to the minors, and call up Yerry, so that the bullpen has more short men in it.
Gil sent to the minors. I don’t think Rodon is ready to return just yet, so I think maybe they are going to take my Yarbrough suggestion seriously for, like, one start. Mostly, though, sending Gil down gives them an extra reliever, as they have an off day on Thursday, so they can just go to a four-man rotation this next week, and then use Yarbrough on May 6th or something like that, and then Rodon should be back by the 11th.
So it’s better to have Yerry on the roster for the next couple of weeks than have Gil.
It sucks that Gil’s problem is losing his heater, as in the past that very fastball would have made him a great candidate to play up in the pen.
Yeah, 100%. It really blows that he’ pretty much useless now. Hopefully he can work on some shit in the minor.
The fascinating thing about the Cabby/Volpe thing is that the Yankee actually control Cabby for an entire extra year over Volpe, so Cashman should just be proud that he got Cabby instead of trying to push Volpe on us.
Mets lose two to the Rockies and get swept in the series. Will Cohen act and hire Cora?
Is it even a good gig for Cora right now? He’s paid through next year. I think he’d be better off waiting for future gigs (maybe the Mets gig NEXT year).
Stanton to the IL, Martian called up, will presumably platoon at DH with Rice (with Goldy playing 1st against lefties, and Rice DHing those games, and Dominguez DHing, Rice playing first against righties).
Elmer Rodriguez called up to take Gil’s rotation spot for a few go arounds.
The Elmer call is a surprise.
SUPER big surprise. But a nice one! It’s shocking to see them get this aggressive about winning.
ERC is a surprise. If he’s good do they send him back down or use him as reliever?
Surprised about Dominguez. Have they really decided his ceiling is platoon DH? Would like to let him bat righty too, and let him play CF a bit. Give Grisham the occasional day off, give Judge the occasional DH day, give Grichuk a fond farewell…
Not that I’m at all upset he’s coming up, just feel like he deserves a full time job.
I don’t think that’s what they think his ceiling is, but I think it’s what they believe his role is on this particular team with Grisham under contract. Next year, Grisham will be gone, and he’ll have an everyday gig waiting for him.
I think the reporting on Rodriguez might be premature. I think someone jumped the gun there, because now I’m not seeing it confirmed anywhere (and even where I first saw it isn’t there anymore). Dominguez is definitely getting called up for Stanton, but they haven’t confirmed Rodriguez.
Perhaps the plan is to first call up Yerry, and then not call up Rodriguez until his turn in the rotation comes up? That might explain why it isn’t been confirmed, since he won’t be called up right away.
phenom 2-4, Martian 4-7 326/893.
In 18 ABs as a RHB The Martian is 389/450/722.
