From Bryan Hoch:
Part of Carlos Rodón will always feel at home here on the South Side, especially when he’s on the mound. This was where he threw his first big league pitches, launching a seven-year run with the White Sox that included a career highlight: a no-hitter in 2021, sealed on this very diamond.
That version of Rodón was a snarling package of four-seamers and sliders, daring opponents to catch up. The fearless edge is still there, but he carries more polish and savvy now, showcasing a broader arsenal to his former club as he guided the Yankees to their sixth consecutive victory on Friday, a 10-2 win at Rate Field.
“I’m more of a pitcher than a thrower, I would say,” Rodón said. “I rely on some weaker contact and let the defense work. The style is a little different. I’m still somewhat of a power pitcher, but I’m not just going to blow fastballs by you. I’m not stubborn.”
With the victory, the Yankees gained ground in the American League East, moving into second place behind the Blue Jays. Now just three games back of Toronto, it’s the closest New York has been in the division race since July 22.
“It’s a fun time of year. There’s a lot on the line,” manager Aaron Boone said. “It’s not something we can worry too much about. We’ve got to handle our business, play our game and go.”
Nuh uh, Yankees. I’m not Charlie Brown, and you’re not Lucy Van Pelt. I’m not buying that we’re finally going to kick the field goal. That football is DEFINITELY getting pulled away at the last second. The Yankees are going to go on the road to Houston, home for Toronto and Detroit, and then on the road to Boston. They are going to get their ASSES KICKED repeatedly. They have a six-game lead on the final Wild Card spot, so they’ll probably still be in shape for THAT, but don’t even THINK of getting me to take their pathetic run at the division seriously.
Still, great game. A lot of runs, and Carlos Rodon was pretty good. Good enough that I’ll give him the featured image, where he makes Boone go back to the dugout when Boone tried to pull him in the sixth inning, but Rodon said no, and then he retired the last batter to complete a six-inning performance.
It’s so funny to hear Rodon talk about how much smarter he is as a pitcher now when he’s still a total fucking moron. You ever hear his wife talk? Holy shit, she is way too smart for this guy. But I guess he IS rich, at least.
It’s wild that Rodon has a shot at 20 wins
Who was the last Yankee with 20 wins?
Internet says it was CC with 21 in 2010. God we’re old. And I miss CC.
All we need is a miracle.
All we neeeeeed, is you

More insulting than being left out of the line-up entirely!
So, Lombard has been pretty good in his last 69 games in AA , OPS’ing over 700 after last night’s game, which isn’t included in the stats below.

The Blue Jays lost today.
Can’t expect to get to All Star Shane Smith. This is a preview of the next 4 series.
