  1. ICYMI DJ seemed to be on the cusp of making a return, and he was absolutely tearing it up during a Double-A rehab stint this past week, but now it sounds like he is dealing with a brand new injury.
As first reported by Bryan Hoch of MLB.com, LeMahieu received a cortisone injection in his right hip on Tuesday. Manager Aaron Boone described the injection as “preemptive” and that the 36-year-old “felt something coming on.”

Boone stated the team is hopeful LeMahieu will be able to return to the minor leagues later this week, something that will be worth monitoring closely over the next several days.

    Just when I thought I was out…..

    1. How much do you want to bet they didn’t do an MRI, thus missing that the hip pain could be from avascular necrosis instead of impingement, and the cortisone shot makes the AVN worse?

  2. Ha! Rodon just did what I was about to write. At 62 pitches, just start throwing the shit right down the middle. If they get a hit, then you can come out of the game. If they don’t, then you can possibly get through nine.

62 pitches through five is not great odds for him getting through nine if he keeps going to long counts. Just throw the shit down the middle.

  3. Interesting to see them use Hamilton for two innings. That might be something they’ll look into, as he’s obviously fallen down the ol’ totem pole in the pen in terms of the highest leverage innings, but he’s clearly still quite good.

  4. every win is great but i can’t believe how into aaron judge i am. i think at this point if you asked me if id rather see the yanks win a world series or judge smoke 75 and hit 400 ill take the greatest season ever. even in the most bleak moments of fandom he’s been there for us the last ten years. i wouldn’t hear a word of badmouthing him last october.

i mean, sure, give me the 400 season and a title, but if you could only get one?

    1. I’m with you Knuck. These days I’m more into the Yankees than I am baseball as a whole. And really I’m just more into Judge than the Yankees as a whole. It’s pretty thrilling getting to follow a legend and all-time great in real time. A-Rod definitely fit the bill, but the steroids, having most of his prime spent elsewhere and his personality tainted it all.

Being a Yankee fan for 40+ years means I have gotten to watch a lot of great players on a daily basis starting with Winfield and Mattingly. I have enjoyed so many players, but Judge is another level. I used to sort of feel this way about Frank Thomas, but never got to watch him enough and he didn’t wear the right color of pinstripes so I never REALLY got into him. I loved most of those 90’s Yankees and loved watching Sheffield hit and Mo close and Jeter be Captain America.

But Judge is another level. It’s like getting to watch Ruth or Gehrig or Mantle. Bonds was like that, but like A-Rod he had his own baggage. I still loved watching him, but, again, it was a little less fun and he was never on the right team.

I have mostly gotten away from baseball because I think baseball ownership and the commissioner’s office are problematic and I’m sick of it. But Judge and my Dad’s love of baseball (and RLYW) have kept me around the game. I am not very invested in the Yankees’ winning, but I do feel invested in Judge’s performance and in HIM getting a ring.

Anyway, lots of writing but Señor Curve struck a cord with me.

    2. If I’m honest with myself Judge isn’t going to hit 400 but…maybe? a boy can dream
Can Grisham keep hitting like this? probably not but..,if he keeps it up Bellinger can be a supersub
Rice looks for real and the underlying numbers agree
Goldschmidt might not be this good the whole season but we’ll see
That’s a pretty good top of the lineup. I know “lineup protection” is sort of BS but you can’t tell me that with some good hitters around him Judge isn’t helped
