From Bryan Hoch:
The swing-and-miss stuff that secured Luis Gil’s place on the Opening Day roster has been present through three starts, but so have bouts of wildness, a task for the right-hander to work on as he looks to solidify his rotation spot.
Gil walked seven over five innings of three-run ball as the Yankees fell to the Blue Jays, 3-1, on Monday evening at Rogers Centre.

“There are good days and bad days,” Gil said through an interpreter. “At the end of the day, when you’re out there, you just have to keep battling. You have to keep visualizing the strike zone. You want to keep making pitches. It was definitely not my night tonight.”
That was an annoying loss, but not nearly as bad as the Cleveland extra innings loss.
Luis Gil is the number five starter for a reason, ya know? It’s just so frustrating that three/fifths of the Yankees rotation can’t reliably pitch even FIVE innings. I mean, it’s not like someone like Michael Lorenzen was super expensive, ya know? Or Joe fucking Ross or some shit like that. Just a dude who can reliably at least give you FIVE. Just FIVE FUCKING INNINGS.
Nestor you have to live with, of course, but both Clarke Schmidt AND Luis Gil profile as relief pitchers, not starters. It’s very annoying.
But whatever, they have a good enough offense that they SHOULD be better than they have been, but Gleyber and Rizzo have been bad, and Grisham should basically never play. It would be nice if Austin Wells could hit, like, at ALL. He doesn’t have to hit as well as Ben Rortvedt, but how about just hitting a LITTLE bit, huh?
Why would you have to keep battling AT THE END OF THE DAY?
That makes no sense.
Also, look at the score. Gil didn’t lose this game (as much as it looked like he was about to). The offense did.
agreed. it’s one thing to wait for Wells but Gleyber and Rizzo drew comparisons to Altuve and Freeman not so long ago.
Stanton will also disappear soon so we are a few position players and pitchers away from where we might want to be.
boo, cortes day
fuck you montas
also, fuck you dodgers and glasnow
What did the dodgers do?
glasnow got rocked as did montas
whitlock having himself a season so far
Cash and I, we’ll always have Brooks Kriske,
He’s another five-inning wonder, though. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a BETTER five-inning wonder than the Yankees’ five-inning wonders, but he’s still a five-inning wonder.
bleacher report reads my comments
Ha! I read that Montas got rocked and for a minute I thought the Yanks had a day game and got clobbered. Then I remembered that thankfully he’s gone. Rodon getting rocked tonight would be very annoying.
rodon day, hooray
boo, kikuchi day
is there any peraza news? maybe gleyber needs a little pipp
If they’re not trading him, and thus don’t need to up his trade value, then – why the hell not?
Seriously.
Spencer Jones makes his TD Bank Ballpark season debut, batting leadoff and starting in center field.
