From Bryan Hoch:
This time, there were no intentional walks to interrupt Gerrit Cole’s start — just a vintage performance that suggested the Yankees’ ace may be ready for October.
Cole bounced back from the controversial free pass that unraveled his last start to produce his best outing of the season, firing nine innings in the Yankees’ 4-2, 10-inning victory over the Athletics on Friday evening at the Coliseum.
“You want to pitch better, but you try not to over-adjust, either,” Cole said. “It’s kind of a balance. I was excited to pitch today because I had a chance to go do something positive for the team.”
Boy, did Gerrit Cole need a performance like this one, after that EMBARRASSING nonsense last Saturday.
This was outstanding, the first time that a Yankee starter won an extra inning game since Tommy John pitched TEN innings the day I was born. The featured image is an elated Cole leaving the field after the ninth inning (just joking, Cole always looks like a psycho when he leaves the field, even when he’s winning and pitching great).
The offense, though, was disgusting, although it was great to see Juan Soto return, and not only return, but hit a big double in the 10th inning. Great win.
The magic number for the Yankees to win the AL East is now 5.
What can they do about this offense? LF, SS, 1b and DH are all serious problems, Wells and Jazz are slumping while Judge and Soto are not at their best.
John pitched all ten innings in a 6-5 win, 6-5!
Rice is nice

He only had some 14 games at AAA before they called him up. He wasn’t really ready for MLB.
The West Coast should ALWAYS have afternoon games on the weekends.
Always, by fiat, no choice.
It’s ridiculous.
I was just thinking the same thing for East at West games
The right handed hitting lineup includes two switch hitters who are much worse hitting from the right side and Trevi who is hitting 065 since returning from the IL.
G Torres (R) 2B
J Soto (L) RF
A Judge (R) CF
G Stanton (R) DH
J Domínguez (S) LF
J Berti (R) 3B
A Volpe (R) SS
O Cabrera (S) 1B
J Trevino (R) C
O’s about to pull one out in the bottom of the 9th, 2 runs in, tied at 4, 2nd and 3d no outs.
O’s pull a Yankees, can’t get the guy in from 3rd with no outs after tieing the game.
Tigers with 2 runs (so far) in the top of the 10th.
O’s lose, Yankees magic number is 4.
Trey Sweeney saves the day.

He’s hitting more than Volpe.
I talked to the Kansas City Royals fan today. Evidently their season still continues.
They’ve lost six in a row, and he lamented the lack of offense out of his outfield. It took me about 10 seconds to confirm that each member of that outfield has outhit Verdugo.
