From Bryan Hoch:
The Bleacher Creatures’ “roll call” was still echoing through Yankee Stadium three pitches into the evening, and already the home team was trailing. Perhaps that’s a good place to begin describing what the Yankees’ last week has felt like.
Anthony Volpe committed a costly eighth-inning error, booting a likely double-play ball that sent the Bombers toward a 3-2 loss to the Angels on Wednesday. June has not been kind to the Yanks, a month that has now seen them lose six straight — their longest losing streak since August 2023.
“Everyone holds themselves to really high standards. We’re not getting the job done,” Volpe said. “We’re going to keep working and holding each other to that; I hold myself to that. We’re just not performing and not doing the types of things we can control. We can be better.”
One night after several Yankees engaged in a postgame huddle — Cody Bellinger described it as a chat about “remembering who we are” after three straight shutouts — Jazz Chisholm Jr. homered to snap the scoreless streak at 30 innings.
Still, the Yanks couldn’t finish on top.
Let’s be frank, this June swoon is pretty damn fluky, as the pitching has continued to be excellent during this six-game losing streak, and that’s just not normal. During these six losses, they’ve allowed the following amount of runs:
2 runs
4 runs
2 runs
1 run
4 runs
3 runs
That’s simply not the stuff of six-game losing streaks.
Realistically, they will get out of this June swoon, but, at the same time, it obviously speaks towards the Yankees’ recent postseason woes, as their hitters can be this mentally soft. Aaron Judge is the main culprit, as the guy is having a monster season, and yet, when the going gets tough, he cracks like an egg. As he slumps, he begins to chase pitches, and it is the exact OPPOSITE of what you’re SUPPOSED to do. In other words, he has a problem, and his solution to the problem is to take a WORSE approach to hitting than he would normally have. As you might imagine, that is idiotic.
This is a team filled with idiots.
They are barely clinging to a 1.5 game lead in the division, but, to be frank, losing six straight games and still having a 1.5 game lead is kind of impressive in its own right.
The featured image is Volpe’s terrible error on what should have been an easy double play to end the inning (however, as others have noted, sending the game to extra innings wouldn’t have helped things, so maybe he helped the team out, as this team was never going to score a third run in this one).
No 3b
A SS who is a blah hitter, bad base stealer, and chokes in the field
A LF who’s still learning how to play
A manager who does nothing to help the team win and often does things to cause losses
A team full of players with amazingly low baseball IQs
The best hitter in baseball with a long history of choking
Yeah we’re in great shape.
I just looked quick at their BB% and K% by month. They’re walking a tiny bit less (1.5%) and striking out at about the same rate (24%) that they did in April (24%) and May (20%) but they’re hitting more HRs (9% vs 4% in April and May).
They’re never as bad as they look during a losing streak and never as good as they look during a winning streak.
why is volpe still hitting sixth?
whether they’re winning or not it makes no sense.
The Yankees announced today that they had promoted left-handed pitcher Jayvien Sandridge (WHO?) to the active roster while placing Yerry De Los Santos on the IL with right elbow do
Kscomfirt.
Day game-LHP going for Halos.
P Goldschmidt (R) 1B
C Bellinger (L) LF
A Judge (R) RF
G Stanton (R) DH
J Chisholm Jr. (L) 3B
A Volpe (R) SS
A Wells (L) C
D LeMahieu (R) 2B
T Grisham (L) CF
First and third, no out, Judge up. Um, um, good.
And Judge strikes out on 4 pitches.
Stanton almost hits into a DP, Halos botch the play, but MLB botches the challenge. Again. And it’s pouring. Should be first and second one out, instead man on first one out.
Rodon 2ip, 2 home runs. ERA by month March/April 3.43, May 1.47, June before this afternoon 4.76.
Weird, they put the tarp on and before they were finished, took it right off.
It’s nice to see them suck during the day just as hard as they suck at night. That’s range, right there.
Trent from the 9 hole homers with DJ on, PGold homers. Sic with the reverse jinx.
If my betting records are any indication, it’s something of a specialty.
Rodon will give up 6 runs and we’ll lose 6-5.
Wow the batter knew he struck out and the ump said no swing. How could the first base ump miss that? How old is Bill Miller?
phenom now 0-18
Getting swept at home in a 4-game series by the Angels would be the cherry-on-top of Boone’s career as Yankees manager.
Can a pitcher give up 3 HRs and still have it called a quality start?
Bad baserunning? I’m shocked! ! Shocked!
I think they need to huddle up to forget who they are.
Yankees are a stupid team. So much incredibly bad base running.
Last night: Umpire Ben May missed 16 calls in the Yankees Angels game and 14 went against the Angels.
The Angels only managed to win by 1 after a critical Anthony Volpe error in the 8th.

So this game has now only Two productive run-scoring outs in one inning, but also Also an RBI hit with a RISP.
I hope a 4 run lead is enough.
Yay overdue win
Weaver back tomorrow. Gil to throw live batting practice Saturday.
Maybe we will still be in first place by then.
Remember the last game before last years ASB? Weren’t they about to sweep Balt and tie for first place and then there was a two out error by Volpe followed by Verdugo falling down.., Somehow they recovered from that so maybe they can bounce back from this week too.
Three players in the plus column for OAA. Everyone else, 0 or negative, with Jasson a -5.

RHP Cam Schlittler: 5 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 9 K
Schlittler reached 99.1 MPH and averaged 97.4. Furthermore, he generated an incredible 19 whiffs (and spread them out – 4-seamer (7), slider (5), sweeper (4), curveball (3)). With this type of performance often comes with a consequence: Pitches. He needed 94 to generate the 15 outs.

RHP Carlos Lagrange: (W, 2-1) 5.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 12 K (new personal best)
Lagrange struck out seven in a row at one point. We don’t get full StatCast data at this level, but Lagrange generated 20 whiffs. At this level: 5.28 ERA (15.1 IP, 14 H, 9 R, 9 ER, 2 HR, 8 BB, 20 K). Those numbers are skewed by one bad start among his three. Overall, between here and Hudson Valley, he owns a 84/20 K/BB over 57 innings.
Same source as above.
Looks like there’s a lot of minor league pitching depth. There’s also Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz who we got from Boston for Narvaez.

Which prospect will go for this year’s Josh Donaldson?
Is Volpe an option?
I was traveling all day yesterday (and I’ll be traveling most of the day today) as we’re driving down to North Carolina for a family reunion on the Outer Banks (54 people will be attending, which is kind of crazy). I didn’t even know the game was a day game until I saw it while in the car.
Now, will superstitious me not put up another new post until they lose a game? Well…
Sugano today, Elfin tomorrow. No bargains.
P Goldschmidt (R) 1B
T Grisham (L) CF
A Judge (R) RF
J Chisholm Jr. (L) 3B
G Stanton (R) DH
J Domínguez (S) LF
A Volpe (R) SS
A Wells (L) C
D LeMahieu (R) 2B
Yeah, Sugano DOMINATED them last time.
Elfin always dominates them
True. I was going to say, “But he’s struggled this year,” but then I realized that that doesn’t matter with this team.
Cal Raleigh leaving “I’m in a terrible funk” Judge in his dust.
If they ever get another save opportunity, who gets the call? Williams or Weaver?
Articles on the white Sox willing to trade benetendi and Roberts. Why would anyone want them? These trade articles are weird.
Fried not sharp
Two on, no out, Judge up. Cx bases loaded no out, Jazz batting 4th up
phenom 0-21 Blackjack
Bat, track, wall, home run.
22 busted
Yankees not winning challenges.
You HAD to challenge, but yeah, tough to overturn that.
DJ is slow as shit.
To be fair, it was a great throw.
23 Skidoo. Maybe phenom should’ve bunted.
If anyone but Stanton was at third, I think they WOULD have bunted Volpe.
This team is allergic to hits with runners in scoring position.
Eight hits including a home run, five walks thru 5 innings-3 runs. Not very efficient.
Sunday to avoid being swept.
Sanchez killing them tonight.
Wells and phenom also.
Goldy under 0.300 now. Will he ever get back over?
All signs point to no.
They absolutely haaaaaate getting hits with RISP.
Ten hits including a home run and 5 walks thru six. Expected # of runs ?
The Yankees are BAAAAACK!
Shouldn’t Volpe bat ninth?
Are they putting him behind Williams now?
Whenever it’s a battle of the pens bet the other team.
God fucking dammit. Fuck this team so much.
Weaver’s whole deal is that he doesn’t fuck around, so of course he fucked around with his first batter, and gave up a home run.
I mean, to be fair, he JUST got back from the injury list, so i should cut him some slack.
Sure it’s the offense but maybe he needed a low leverage situation. Still he wasn’t gone that long.
Losing 7/8 to Boston, LA, and the Os not that bad. In 2023 they lost 9 in a row. This is much better.
This team could come in 4th. I think Belli needs to be a regular. He’s better than Trent or Jasson.
I do agree that Belli should be more of a regular than how Boone has been treating him.
Starting a new streak tonight.
Really nice piece of hitting by Henderson. This sucks.
The joke is on us.
Some Yankee-esque baserunning by the Orioles.
When it’s a battle of the pens, bet the other team.
Blewett was cut by the Braves, who are desperate for relievers, and he’s dominating them. Some pathetic shit.
Have the Yankees ever scored against Bautista?
Weakly and meekly they go.
Hey, the Mets outdid the Yankees, now a 7-game losing streak for the Boys of Shea.
The Yankees are BAAAAAACK to 1990
Never fear, they don’t come from behind.
phenom’s ABs have gotten worse. The last one was a doozy.
They gotta move him to ninth.
Boone on phenom “tough night, tough few games here, a little late getting into position gotta get himself on time then he’ll take off.”
Curry he’s chasing 34%, usually 22%.
Volpe needed to be sent down in 2023 when he was hitting in the .180s. Cashman? Ha!
They really have nothing to lose by letting Peraza play. A few weeks in AAA with a baserunning coach wouldn’t hurt Volpe either.
Even WITH this ridiculously shitty slump, Volpe’s OPS is still over .700. So obviously you keep him in the lineup. Just push him to #9 spot.
