From Bryan Hoch:
You’ll hear no apologies from the Yankees as they continue to pound weaker opponents, swinging big and padding their offensive numbers. It has been a roller-coaster season, and as they gear up for the stretch drive, they’ll ride these highs as long as they can.
Cody Bellinger, Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Trent Grisham homered as the Yankees notched their fifth consecutive win on Thursday evening, a 10-4 victory over the White Sox at Rate Field – a performance that, at least in one corner, sparked dreams about more than an August drubbing of a last-place club.
“We want to win the division. We don’t just want to get to a Wild Card spot,” Chisholm said. “ … Right now, it’s just like, we’re going to go out there and win that – and then we’re going to go and win the World Series.”
What a weird game.
Will Warren was awful, and yet gets a win and his ERA went down (because he allowed a grand slam with two outs, and since one of the runners reached on an error, all of the runs were unearned).
I love how these dudes beat up some shitty teams and suddenly act like they could win the division. Ain’t happening, dudes! You’ll be lucky if you remain in the Wild Card during this crazy tough upcoming stretch of Houston on the road, Toronto and Detroit at home, and the Boston on the road.
The featured image was a tough call. I went with Judge murdering Miguel Vargas, which led to the go-ahead run scoring. How fucked up is it that the Yankees scored the go-ahead run while the other team’s first baseman basically broke his wrist (HOPEFULLY it’s just badly badly bruised)?
As an aside, I meant to wish Ugly Johnny Dickshot a happy birthday last week, but his birthday came on an off day, and so I didn’t have a post that day, so I forgot. My apologies, and I hope you had a great birthday, UJD! Happy belated birthday!
Happy birthday UJD! Best wishes.
I watched the highlights of Schwarber’s night, damn.
On the list of things I don’t want to experience is any version of a collision with a full speed Judge.
I think this post nailed it. I figure they’ll get the WC because they’ll win enough games against bad teams; then lose in that round or at best the next round.
Cashman will again talk about the playoffs being a crap shoot – and I’ll remind everyone that for some reason the crapshoot never lands in the Yankees favor. They’ll always lose to a better team (exception 2017 vs Indians) and often lose to a worse one.
They’ll keep Boone, who they will say is great as his team always makes the playoffs (2023 exception).
Rinse, wash, repeat.
Thanks guys! That’s very thoughtful. I was in NYC dropping my daughter off for her freshman year of college and had a very nice dinner—many actually but including on my birthday.
Belated happy birthday, FGas!
Happiest returns Mr. Shot.
