From Bill Ladson:
Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodón had command of his pitches on Opening Day last week against the Brewers, but it was a different story in the early innings on Wednesday night, and it proved costly in a 4-3 loss to the D-backs at Yankee Stadium.
It was a cold night in the Bronx: 42 degrees at first pitch, and Rodón had a tough time finding his rhythm early. He acknowledged his fastball velocity was down, but he wasn’t concerned.
Rodon noted the same shit we saw from him occasionally last season in the early innings, a lack of adjusting, “I wish it was sooner. I needed to be quicker with it. I wish I had it click earlier and kept that game closer. I gave some free passes. I gave them some easy runs. I needed to be a little more crisp with the lines.”
Boone on Gallen, “It will be a game we will look back on. He was just dialed in. He had both breaking balls going. The changeup was working. He was moving the fastball around. It has that ride — that cut on it. He had one heck of a night. He was really dealing. He made it tough on us.”
Zac Gallen dominates the Yankees, so I was assuming a loss in this one. He was even better than I expected, as he had total control of the plate, routinely forcing the Yankees to swing at stuff off of the plate. It was one of the best pitching performances I’ve seen in a while. As for this series, it’s just a tough matchup this series with their three best pitchers against the Yankees’ second, fourth and fifth starters, and the Yankees’ lone good pitcher having no velocity.
I honestly think Rodon showed something by going six and stopping the runs at 4. Meanwhile, Gomez just flat out pitched really well.
The offense was very disappointing, to be sure, but let me see them suck against Kelly before I get too concerned. Game 1 was a weird loss due the early weather, and their closer being on paternity leave, this one was a more standard, “Gallen is going to eat them alive” result.

that photo really makes Rodon look like Ethan Suplee in Mallrats/My Name is Earl
Him trying to find the strike zone early on was like Suplee trying to find the sailboat in the Magic Eye drawing in Mallrats.
The only games I look back on were those we should have won but didn’t. Especially when it is due to stupid managing, Game 1 of this series as an example, not game 2. Game 1 of the WS still burns.
Yeah, I think that’s fair.
My uncle was buried in his family’s gravesite, where my mother is also buried. Today’s her birthday, and my dad and brother went to visit her grave, and it was cool to see the Yankee flower arrangements (my cousin drove to the Bronx to get them for her dad) from my uncle’s wake still used to decorate the grave.
Very nice. I once saw a gravestone where my father is buried that said “asked little gave much.”
Nice tribute to him

Is Goldy hurt?
Also, why not have Wells DH on his off day?
Kay said last night Goldy would sit. As for Wells I suppose they’re worried about how he got run down last September.
Or maybe Carrasco demanded a personal catcher
Back to back sweeps to start the season. Wait …
Pythag has us at 4-1, so this team is still on pace for 130 wins
Dang, Gardner’s kid died from carbon monoxide poisoning. Gardy better sue the shit out of that resort.
God that is horrible
Anyone else notice the Yankees haven’t won since the tariffs were announced?
