  1. I was gonna say the bats wouldn’t be a story if they weren’t called for by the stat nerds, but of course if they came from the trunk of some chaw-spitting octagenarian with leathered skin and squinty eyes we’d have the “old school scouts out-clever the nerds” stories up to our eyeballs.

    1. It’s just so hilarious that these bats have been with EVERY MLB team ALL Spring Training, but it wasn’t until Michael Kay mentioned something about it on YES that everyone suddenly paid attention to it.

    2. I mean I can believe they do help, but they’re not gonna turn Oswaldo Cabrera into Miguel Cabrera. Still for a good player a marginal upgrade might have outsize results. We’ll see,

    3. Like, I don’t have the math to think about this properly, but where’s the point at which X% more barrels becomes significant? 1%? 5%?

    1. Wait a minute, wasn’t Tatis suspended a few years back? The Padres suspected nothing? 😏

    2. Lower body indeed, Bop, that’s why athletes follow a long course of testosterone with a course of hCG…

  2. Neither rain nor snow

NYRA cancels Sundays card due to loud music at the auto show at the casino that wont allow you to watch or bet the host tracks races.

    1. But in reality, I doubt that Judge will be able to hold onto that for his career. Also, what was Bonds’ wRC+ prior to his massive body change with PEDs?

    2. That is shocking! I actually looked it up myself because I didn’t believe you. It is amazing how Judge’s feats are now mentioned along side the true legends of the sport.

I never believed I’d be fortunate enough to see another Barry Bonds. I feel lucky to get this version even if Judge doesn’t quite feel like the indestructible, cyborgian menace that Bonds presented at his peak.

  3. MLB Network
Aaron Judge’s last 134 regular season games:

    .358/.492/.802, 58 HR, 142 RBI

    Babe Ruth’s 1927 season (151 games):

    .356/.486/.772, 60 HR, 165 RBI

    1. Poteet larceny.

Not to be confused with petty Larseny, which is when you throw one perfect inning in the World Series.

  4. I hate this nonsense about how now Ohtani and Judge are two of the best contracts out there. That’s just how contracts fucking work, dudes. The market keeps going up, so the previous “high” level guys, provided that they are still performing at a high level, look better. But time doesn’t work that way. When they signed their contracts, they were getting peak value. Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander got paid a LOT, just because other dudes eventually made more doesn’t mean that they weren’t making a TON of money.

    1. Somebody should explain to Hal that this’ll be true for anyone he signs now in a couple of years.

    1. Of course, we’ll get that exact same headline if they kick ass (with a picture of a frustrated Corbin).
