    1. I’d be fine with that, honestly. I don’t think they’ll do it, though, which is why I think he’s gone, but I think a Jazz QO (and him accepting it) makes a lot of sense.

    2. For how much $$? Will it stop them from doing something more useful, like getting a C who can hit…

    3. i think he has played his way into it and hope he makes it an easy decision with a big autumn.

    4. If $22M can get you a 50/50 second baseman, even prorating for work stoppage, then it might just be worth it. But then where do you put Barry Bonds?

    5. give him the caballero treatment?

or split time with jazz and use him a bit in the of?

seems like jazz is a bit particular about where he likes to play though, unfortunately.

    6. there’s also the option of QO’ing Jazz, he accepting, then trading him to replenish / plenish the farm (depending on if you’re Cashman undercover).

You could also hope for a rebound

  1. Jomboy with a comprehensive half hour on everybody’s newest favorite umpire. 8 incidents over 21 years. Mostly contemporaneous breakdowns they already had on hand, but also a new breakdown where Eddings botched a call in the 2005 ALDS that handed a game to the White Sox. Wonder if they ever gave him a ring.

It’s not just the incompetence, it’s the insecurity. At least Eddings is just in baseball and not in law enforcement.

    1. It really was baffling watching the fucker just outright LIE. “No, no, that’s just how I call third strikes, even when they are dropped” when he pointedly DIDN’T do that the previous at-bat.

    2. Yeah, I’m just thankful that Eddings chose that path, for harm reduction’s sake.

Also thinking today about how different history might be if, a few decades ago, a certain part owner of the Texas Rangers had opted to run for Commissioner of Baseball instead of governor of his home state.

    1. Clay, how much are you seriously going to take from one game?
Yes, it was fun. Yes, I’d LIKE it to be a harbinger of things to come.
      Statistically, it means NOTHING.
