From Manny Randhawa:
If Friday night’s deflating loss to the team with the worst 50-game start to a season in the Modern Era (since 1900) could be likened to a bad dream, Saturday’s 13-1 Yankees rout of the Rockies at Coors Field was a satisfying return to reality.
Aaron Judge homered. Max Fried was brilliant. And all was right in the Bronx Bombers’ world as New York’s bats awakened from a two-game slumber going back to a 1-0 win over the Rangers in their series finale at Yankee Stadium.
This was the sort of result that you would have expected from these two teams, but it’s funny how it looked like they were on their way to another shocking loss when Fried gave up an RBI triple in the fourth, then Volpe almost threw away a groundball on the next play, so the Rockies almost took a 2-1 lead on the Yankees.
Luckily, Goldy kept contact with the bag, and the Yankees then dropped 10 on the Rockies.
Despite his Major League-leading 18th home run, though, Judge had some oddly bat at-bats, so .400 is probably a thing of the past officially at this point. He’s still pretty fucking good, though.
Bellinger had himself a day, and now has very good numbers for the season (perhaps even better than Soto?), and DJ LeMahieu even showed some life with some line drive hits to raise his average to .269. His defense continues to be excellent. You have to wonder what the Yankees are going to do when Jazz came back. They were both asked whether they would move to third, and both guys said yes, but they both made it clear that they wouldn’t WANT to. I think the Yankees feel better about Jazz at third, but I think playing second means more to Jazz, so I don’t know how the Yankees will handle it.
Anyhow, great win.

If belli can be good, the combo of him plus fried is worth more than Soto and when combined with Goldy makes cashmans off season quite good, despite starting a year without a starting 3b.
That (not Brian’s part) reads like a report from someone who looked at the box but didn’t actually see the game. And with an assignment to write the pro-Yankees version of the game. That 10-spot doesn’t happen without a LOT of help from a lousy Colorado defense. For at least half that inning, it looked and felt a lot more like Colorado imploding than the Yankees pouring it on – and people were saying so in yesterday’s thread.
Yeah, Judge isn’t a 400 hitter right now – but this is what a slump looks like for Judge now. He’ll come out of it – I can honestly imagine him dipping to 350 and then getting BACK to 400 in late June. He hasn’t thrown away a month yet, which he has every season. If he doesn’t, we will see something historic.
Also Fried is fantastic. Isn’t it now something like four consecutive starts where it really looked like he was laboring… and good lord, look at the results!
Yeah, it’s amazing how good his results are when his stuff isn’t all that great. He’s just a brilliant pitcher.
