From Bryan Hoch:
Each Cam Schlittler start offers a glimpse of what the Yankees hope tomorrow will look like in the Bronx, with manager Aaron Boone describing the hard-throwing right-hander as “a future staple of our rotation.”
The present looks plenty sharp, too. Schlittler strengthened his rookie résumé on Monday night, striking out eight over six scoreless innings while leading the Yankees to a 10-5 victory over the Nationals at Yankee Stadium.
“The big thing is always being confident,” Schlittler said. “That’s been important to me the last two years. Just being able to see the results, and getting confidence from guys in this room as well — it makes it easier to go out there and just do my job.”
I mean, holy fucking shit, right? You can’t freak out too much over eight starts, but HOLY FUCKING SHIT!
I keep on saying to myself, “Don’t overreact, don’t overreact, don’t overreact,” but it’s pretty fucking hard NOT to, right?
Also, the scouts have almost certainly underrated Schlittler as a prospect, but imagine if they’re right, and Carlos LaGrange is even BETTER than Schlittler!!
Anyhow, great win, even if the pythag took a hit in the ninth inning (I get that Yerry was getting tired, but just fucking throw strikes, dude. Eventually someone will hit it at someone).
Gore is going to dominate them, though.

Waiting to see the Yankee rookie list of “best first 8 starts”. Whitey Ford? Mel Stotlemyer? Stan Bahnsen?
Skenes has the second lowest ERA all time after 50 starts. (Vida Blue)
There was some stat about how no Yankee rookie starter had ever thrown six shutout innings with 8 or more Ks in back-to-back starts before.
Yeah I saw that; but that’s picking and choosing.
Mel Stot pitched 2 CG SO as a rookie with an overall 2.06 ERA. 177+ ERA
Whitey Ford had three straight CG wins allowing a total of 13 hits and 1 run. 153+ ERA
Bahnsen threw 267 innings with a 140+ ERA.
6 innings and 8 Ks and no runs in two starts? I’m really happy for him and us! But I’d like a deeper dive into how good he’s doing. Last year Gil had 3 starts in a row of 6, 6 and 8 innings with 14(!), 8 and 9 Ks. But oh yeah he gave up a run twice. When these writers pick and choose the stat they can make buddy biancalana and babe Ruth look similar. (With some mix of doubles, stolen bases, and whatever.)
Nobody pitches complete games any more and to compare him to Ford the all time Yankee greatest pitcher is unfair. He needs to cut down on the walks, his FIP is only 4.2. Another Yankee starter in his first 6 games, 5 starts pitched to a 10.32 era. With a 99mph fastball and a developing curve he could be a thing.
No doubt. I think Schlitty has been great. I think I’d use him in the playoffs as it seems he has shown a smaller propensity to blow up as compared to some of the others. I was simply noting that it’s 8 starts and finding some combination of something to make him the “first ever” is to me meaningless. Especially strike outs in a game when people are striking out more than ever. But sure his grade so far is A.
You probably don’t pull Jazz from the lineup during his little hot streak, right? So what’s the lineup?
Goldschmidt 1B
Rice C
Judge DH
Bellinger CF
Stanton RF
Jazz 2B
Rosario 3B
Grisham CF
Volpe SS
Something like that? Or DO you just sit Jazz?
Sit jazz to play who?
Caballero, since Gore is a lefty.
Sic, I appreciated that! (Cone did not.)
It got me rabbit-holing to this article in the NYT from ’92 where Coney said …
“I’m sure some people will remain skeptical about me. I like the night life. If that’s being reckless, I’m guilty. But have I been reckless from a financial standpoint? No. Have I been reckless in life style? No, or I would have broken down by now. And I’m just not going to defend myself as to whether I have been reckless sexually. I’m not running for public office. I’m trying to get the Mets to the World Series.”
… which is insanely erudite for a 29-year-old ballplayer in the midst of the biggest scumbag clubhouse that we’re aware of.
I thought the book on Schlittler was fifth starter if he can even stick in the rotation
That WAS the book. It appears to be mistaken at the moment.
Yankees – Giants to open the 2026 season in SF. Night game, March 25.
Cruz activated.
Since his debut no hitter with at least 1500 PAs has been worse. No James it’s not that hard to answer, phenom is not good at hitting.

Jazz and Wells in, Martian and Rice out.
Naturally, since Rice hit a home run last night.
Rice I’m okay with resting especially if he’s going to be the primary catcher
I guess with the day game tomorrow, Rice was going to have to take ONE of these days off, might as well be today’s game.
