From Bryan Hoch:
More than a year ago, Jazz Chisholm Jr. stared out the back window of a car in Boston traffic, watching the clock tick toward first pitch. A locker waited in a new clubhouse, and after a tumultuous beginning to his career, the idea of a fresh start held real appeal.
The Yankees organization provided an opportunity, Chisholm believes, that has helped him to reach new heights. The infielder joined a select group on Friday, belting his 30th home run and becoming just the third Bomber to produce a 30-30 season in the club’s 4-2 loss to the Orioles at Camden Yards.
“I feel like it’s boosted my career, 100%, in different ways,” Chisholm said. “The winning mentality, the winning atmosphere, the way everybody in the front office to the training staff wants to win. This is how I felt like I grew up playing baseball, and what I needed to be around to be even more successful.”
Chisholm has said that the 30-30 tag would be more meaningful if it helps the Yankees overtake the Blue Jays in the American League East race; alas, his long ball represented the club’s only offensive strike, having been held to one hit over six scoreless innings by left-hander Trevor Rogers. The Yanks remain three games behind the Blue Jays, who lost 20-1 to the Royals.
Gotta love the headline just being about the 30/30 club, and not the Yankees blowing their best chance at possibly winning the AL East.
Trevor Rogers was excellent, everything the Orioles were HOPING they were getting LAST season, but didn’t. He now looks like the type of player who WOULD be worth Kyle Stowers and that other prospect the Orioles traded for him. Luckily, he’s only signed through next season.
I am assuming that the Orioles will find a way to get him to skip a start so that he faces off against the Yankees in the next series between these two teams (he’s currently scheduled to start the final game of the Orioles’ series BEFORE facing the Yankees).
Featured image is one of his strikeouts. Rogers was aided by some bullshit calls by the umpires, but it wasn’t like they were on 3-2 pitches, ya know? Had he not been given those calls, he’d probably strike out the batters on different pitchers. He was dominant.
Next year he’s arb eligible
Oh sure, but you know what I mean, he’s only under team control for one more year.
phenom with the start tonight. I’m pretty sure the job is his unless he goes on a 1-20.
100%.
If Rogers were pitching from us, Brian, you would have been infuriated by his inefficiency!
