From Jared Greenspan:
For the Yankees, 24 hours made all the difference.
A day after a silent three-hit performance, the Bombers’ bats woke up in a ferocious way on Sunday afternoon. Aaron Judge homered twice, while Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Cody Bellinger added home runs of their own as the Yankees bested old friend Luis Severino in a 12-5 victory at Yankee Stadium, taking the three-game series from the Athletics.
“That’s what it’s about,” Judge said. “Sometimes, you’re going to get beat up, sometimes things aren’t going to go your way. You just have to come out the next day and just go to work.”
The Yankees did just that, scoring 12 runs — their highest single-game total since a 13-run outburst on May 24. In many ways, that was a lifetime ago, predating the offensive struggles that have plagued the Yankees for much of June.
They don’t need to score in double digits, but some of these dudes just need to hit a LITTLE, and it was nice to see Judge have such a good game. Jazz has been playing so well that they should probably consider batting him cleanup.
The featured image is Marcus Stroman slapping Jazz on the ass after Jazz made a great inning-ending double play. Stroman had a nice return from the IL (suggesting that perhaps his awful play in the beginning of the season actually DID have to do with the injured knee), and Jazz had such a good game that I wanted to spotlight them both, and this celebratory moment allowed me to include both.
Stroman being good enough to be a #5 starter until Gil returns is not an insane hope.
Jazz should def hit cleanup at least against RHPs
I’m a little surprised Stroman gets to wear a durag
“Stroman being good enough to be a #5 starter until Gil returns is not an insane hope.”
Instead of “good enough to be a #5 starter until Gil returns,” how about – would you invest in him over Warren? Over Schmidt? He might be “good enough to be a #5 starter until Gil returns”, but he still makes the team worse by replacing someone more likely to be better down the line.
But when Gil returns, they’ll just put Stroman in the bullpen, like they literally did just last year.
