    1. At this point a decent 2-WAR regular would be a satisfactory outcome

    2. Mars was, after all, the Roman god of WAR, and features in many epic works of science fiction – including the most recent classic to be penned by someone named Wells, titled “Negative WAR of the Worlds.”

    3. Excellent point, but without the needless complications, that’s just it – coming up he was supposed to become the god of WAR.
      Love it.
And no, 2 WAR would not be satisfactory, that’ll just lead to them endlessly playing his mediocrity instead of actually improving – if he’s not going to be actually good (and not going to be traded), I almost think it’d be better if he sucked.

  1. “ BREAKING: In its next CBA, the league is proposing a max contract length of 5 yrs for free agent players switching teams, 6 years to retain their own players. No deferred contracts. Qualifying offer is gone too. Also, 5 years to free agency for players 30 or older.”

    1. They would WANT to, yes. But that wasn’t listed. Obviously that combination would hardly be acceptable, so right, utterly pointless. They’re trying to establish the playing field.

    2. It was listed, just not in that quote.

“A free agent moving teams this upcoming offseason could sign a maximum contract of 5 years, $202 million. A team retaining its own free agent could sign him for 6 years at $265 million.”

It’s all based on percentages of the salary cap that they’re not going to get, so it’s just absurdity.
