From Bryan Hoch:
Aaron Judge can’t get back soon enough for the flagging Yankees, who pushed their losing streak to four games Monday night in an 8-5 loss to the Rangers after blowing a ninth-inning lead. The Yankees’ sense of frustration with themselves was all but boiling over in the clubhouse after losing the series opener at Globe Life Field.
After the defeat, manager Aaron Boone didn’t hesitate or dither when asked if the recent stretch of disappointment for the Yankees — who have lost 12 of the past 19 games — was beginning to weigh on them.
“Yes,” Boone said. “It doesn’t matter, though. It doesn’t matter … we’ve got to win, period. We know that. Nobody cares how stressful it is. That’s all just noise, excuses, whatever.”
Boone is a terrible manager, but he’s right about one thing. Nothing matters besides winning. Fuck the standings or anything like that. It’s early August. You can’t worry about that shit now. All you can do is win as many games as you can.
One way they can help do that is to demote Devin Williams to the 8th inning. Why are they coddling some dude who just joined the team this season and is going to be gone after this season as a free agent? Just make Bednar the closer, like he should have been as soon as they acquired him. Why, by the way, was Bednar pitching AHEAD of Camilo Doval on Friday? I actually like the Doval pickup, but I like him as a 6th/7th inning guy. Camilo Doval is a really good 6th/7th inning guy. He ain’t a closer, though. I’d just as soon make Weaver the closer again, which he did when THEY MADE THE FUCKING WORLD SERIES, but I get it, he probably is more valuable as as guy who could pitch multiple innings.
So yeah, make Devin Williams the 8th inning guy, make Bednar the closer, and just try, in general, to suck less.
Fucking Max Fried, by the way, what a fucking choke artist this guy has been. The guy WON THE CLINCHING GAME OF THE WORLD SERIES back in 2021, and yet pressure seems to have totally been getting to him the last week or so. It’s fucking pathetic.
The Yankees got shut down by the guy who wasn’t good enough to start over the Rangers’ shittiest starter. That’s pathetic.
Just try not being pathetic, you bunch of losers.
The featured image is Devin Williams giving up a home run for the second straight appearance. He better not still be the fucking closer.
Judge doesn’t pitch.
Maybe he should.
What did they see in bird turd to trade for him?
Why is Williams the closer?
Why is Boone still the manager?
Why is cashman still the GM when every other move he makes blow up and in every choice between two players he picks the wrong one?
So many questions and no answers.
I’d hope that if they blow this they fire cashBoone and at least there is hope for 2026…but alas after 2023 that didn’t happen so why will it happen now.
I give up.
I don’t want to toot my own horn, but I’m pretty sure I could churn out slightly better than .500 teams with a $300m payroll which also includes the best hitter in baseball.
Why can’t Volpe throw the ball to first in the air?
Why can’t a “starter” go more than 5 innings?
Why is there a “closer” who can’t close?
Why can’t a “hit first” catcher not hit?
The Bird thing annoys me to no end. De Los Santos had an ERA under 2. And they sent him down for a guy who has shown over 4 seasons that’s he’s a nothing. This is insane.
What will it take for the owner to blow a gasket? I’m not pining for the original Steinbrenner who killed this team for a decade before he was banned with his musical chair manager games and other dumb decisions. But the other extreme of total hands off, which is we are now, is amazingly frustrating.
I agree but since he pitched 3 innings Thursday they probably would’ve shuttled him back to Scranton anyway. Leiter should be back soon. The question is why did Cash want him in the first place. OTOH he’s showing progress, Friday he gave up a grand slam and last night it was only a 3 run home run.
I still am fine with Bird as a long term play. But for a long term play, you fucking think long term with him! If your take on a guy is, “Oh, I can remake this guy into a good pitcher,” then why the fuck are you pitching him BEFORE you remake him?!
They spent the entire Spring Training reworking Cruz into a better pitcher, but this asshole they’re just throwing into high leverage situations like he’s already fixed. It’s fucking MORONIC.
Either Tim Hill or Headrick would have been the MUCH better choice for the 10th.
I’ll give them this much, though, the odds are that the Rangers were scoring against Hill or Headrick, as well. That game was lost as soon as Williams blew it.
Cash signs Kenta Maeda who had been released by the Tigers after a 2 year run pitching to a 6 era and then released by the Cubs after pitching to a 6 era for their AAA team.
Bird takes his 27 ERA to Scranton
