From Bryan Hoch:
itching victories hardly seem valued as highly as they once were, though don’t tell that to Gerrit Cole, one of the last old-school workhorses still toiling across the Major Leagues. The right-hander registered his 150th career win on Thursday afternoon, a statistic he finds significant.
Supported by Aaron Judge’s Major League-leading 48th homer and a three-run blast by Giancarlo Stanton, Cole spun six scoreless innings, combining with three relievers on a one-hit shutout as the Yankees defeated the Guardians, 6-0, at Yankee Stadium.
“I grew up when they were widely viewed as important by everybody,” Cole said. “To me, it’s one of the stats that everyone has a hand in. It’s really about your teammates and how often you take the field and play well together.”
Cole joined Justin Verlander (260), Max Scherzer (216) and Clayton Kershaw (212) as the only active pitchers with at least 150 wins.
Tim Hill, Luke Weaver and Michael Tonkin polished off the Yanks’ 10th shutout of the season, with the one-hitter representing the club’s fewest hits allowed since Domingo Germán’s perfect game on June 28, 2023.
That’s just some bonkers shit, right? That HALF of 300 wins is now seen as a major achievement. Crazy.
Good for Cole, though, that got him the featured image. Cole is so good. He’s so good that even when he walks, like, seventeen guys, you STILL feel confident that he’ll just get the OTHER guys out. When he loses the plate, it almost feels like it is strategic.
Stanton came through with a big home run. I almost think it makes more sense to bat him after Judge, as pitchers still seem to be SCARED of Stanton in a way they just aren’t of Wells, even though Wells is the better hitter now.
Jazz Chisholm is back. I hope they let him lead off for a bit.
This was an excellent series for the Yankees, but since they play up and down to their opponent, they’ll undoubtedly suck against the shitty Rockies now.
Best record in the AL for now…but…Houston is going to get the #1 seed, eh? Only 5.5 games back.
Gleyber OBP Last 6 games 429, last 12 382. He had some long ABs yesterday.
Playing down to bad teams and up to good ones is a lot more promising for the post-season than playing well against bad teams and badly against good ones.

Also, itching victories make me uncomfortable.
Seattle fired their manager due to this mid season collapse. Hal are you listening? It’s ok to fire a manager if the team is underperforming!
What? Fire Boone?! You guys don’t get it, but teams around the league would be fighting for a chance to sign him the moment he was available! (With any luck, Baltimore or Boston would win that one, and we wouldn’t have to worry about them for half a decade or so.)
How much confidence does anyone have in Rodon? A little already? I have zero idea what to expect. He could be lights out. He could be knocked out in the 2nd inning.
If he pitches well 2 out of every 3 games I’ll take it.
Has Judge hit any home runs today?
I wore a Yankee short to PT and then to the store and it was intensely annoying to have people ask about it, I won’t make that mistake again
Not that this team will make the playoffs, let alone play 3 or more games; but in the unlikely event that they do, would it make sense to use a 3-man rotation, with Cole and the two lefties (Rodon, Cortes), and keeping the two righties (Schmidt, Gil) as long relief?
If a rested Gil looks sharp as he did earlier in the year, it would be hard not to start him. He was dominant. And if Rodon looks like shit as he did for a while, it would be hard to start him.

I repeat myself because he keeps repeating his idiocy,
DJLM is washed up at least for 2024. Semdvy home; invite him to spring training and if he still can’t hit release him. I think we need to root for him to suck every single game because if he has one good game that gets him an extra 100 at bats. If he goes 0 for 30 maybe they’ll stop playing him and we finally get rid of him after only 30 more at bats?
LOL. No serious team would run that line up out there, not 6 through 9.
99 games for 99

Yeah, posted that in the previous thread last night. Amazing numbers over 99 games, Ruthian numbers.
Verdugo last 5 games 000/091, last 11 136/375.
DJ last 077/077, last 9 167/379. He’s only gotten worse.
A serious team would not have that 6 through 9 line-up.
Clarke Schmidt strikes out two in his first rehab inning.
Clarke Schmidt update: 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K. He is up to 35 pitches and is scheduled to throw around 40. Perhaps they give him a batter in the 4th inning. NOTE: He gave up a solo HR since.
DJ LeMahieu just took a ball to the face during warmups. He’s down in pain and getting examined by the Yankees training staff.
Scratched precautionary reasons
Yikes!
