New York’s mindset Tuesday night was to flush what happened 24 hours earlier.
Offensively, the Bronx Bombers did so in spades by pounding Minnesota for an early nine-run lead before a tough outing from a reliever resulted in a nail-biting 10-9 win at Target Field.
“A little exhale after that one,” said manager Aaron Boone.
Recently, anyone who pitches in relief for the Yankees just pitches terribly, no matter how well they had previously been pitching. But hey, at least they won this one.
Cam Schlittler really disappointed me tonight. Dude was up 10-1, and he just fell apart, walking dudes and extending the inning. It was really awful. Ryan Yarbrough has been good for the Yankees, but he was dogshit tonight. Even the Yankees one actually definitively good reliever, David Bednar, gave up a home run (Bednar has this really annoying habit of throwing the occasional belt high fastball that just gets crushed). Luckily, Mark Leiter and Devin Williams pitched well (Devin Williams pitched REALLY well).

The Red Sox lost to the Athletics, so the Yankees have a two-game lead in the Wild Card (you could argue that it’s really a 1.5 game lead, since the Red Sox own the tiebreaker). That’s something.

By year end there are no half games. So with a 2-game lead in the loss column they are only 1 game up.
Whatever. They are going to lose to whoever they play since they’ll be facing only good pitchers who won’t be like Zebbe
Schlittler was just showing Cashman and Boone that he’s ready for the postseason. If they want him in this bullpen, he can fit right in.

Went to sleep at the perfect time. My only mistake was checking the result when I got up.
