The two starting pitchers are going to fare VERY differently from each other (and not to the Yankees’ benefit). Good to see the Martian in there, at least!
Mets-Braves games today and Thursday have been postponed, They will play two on Monday.
Going to be hilarious when they blow the division.
If ever there was a pitcher who you couldn’t press into service, it would be Marcus Stroman.
Everyone to a MAN knew that Poteet would be the better option tonight, but they’re so careful not to offend anyone, that they threw Stroman out there, knowing he was likely going to suck. It’s such an unserious organization. I get that these games don’t matter THAT much, but it’s still very annoying.
I disagree.
Stroman wouldn’t start Opening Day because it would break his rhythm, but he’s going to adjust to starting a game out of nowhere?
i really don’t blame him for the hiccups in left. kind of a big deal to get called up, new situation, etc.
Volpe did nothing wrong yet…..
That it took literally SIX STRAIGHT HITS before someone made a fucking mound visit is almost unfathomable (and yes, Dominguez fucked him, but that was ONE out of SIX hits!).
The Yankees Way.
Stroman, I never liked him, and he has not improved.
I think The Martian just lost the left field job.
Gleyber will straighten him out.
I don’t think Stroman’s got it this evening.
That’s a hilariously manageable score headed to the bottom of the first with allowing SIX hits in a row.
Lose tonight, already baked in. Maybe Thursday gets washed out. Yankees will lose to Skenes Saturday, maybe baseball on Monday if this team also loses Friday and Sunday to the Pirates, and the O’s win all 3 this weekend. Sterling would be so pi$$ed off.
Blue Jays led off their game against the Red Sox with a single in the bottom of the first inning. The next batter then SACRIFICE BUNTED THE RUNNER TO SECOND.
What the FUCK?!
And of course, they did not score in the inning.
From Sept 21 1964 to Sept 30 the Pholding Phillies lost 10 in a row and 12/13
Okay, Wells and Stanton, are you going to continue to just keep letting them insult you to your face, game after game (most likely, yes)?
Wells, “That would be an affirmative, yes!”
And of course. Austin Wells exposed. Last 30 days 164, last 28 088. The Volpe syndrome.
At least Stroman won a hard fought battle against James McCann.
In 2007 the mutts lost 6/7 to Florida and Miami to fall out of first.
Wells has been awful in September. 🙁
Five pitches to Judge, only 1 in the strike zone.
I think the Martian was a plus centerfielder in the minors but a negative left fielder. Is it really out of the question to switch Judge and the Martian?
At least Wells has been playing well on defense.
Wells and phenom Boone successes.
Kay’s right they’re in the same fucking division.
Phenom comes thru
Jasson 109.3 MPH, nothing to show for it.
Judge hitting fewer home runs this game than (FGas and) I demand of him.
Not only do they keep running him out there, they keep hitting him behind Judge. Unserious people run the Yankees.
They have to run him out there, Trevi is the option. The only other option is Stanton or the Martian.
And now, Judge hits a ground ball at 115.3 MPH.
It looked like Stroman just stood there and watched it trickle by him. Clearly that’s a TV illusion, but – damn.
Oh, another year of Stroman to look forward to. Cashman is a genius!
The Yankees have been, and I’ve said this for years, a team in need of a modern day Munson, Piniella, O’Neill types.
RAB Fitts is the primary piece the Yankees sent to the Red Sox for Verdugo. Verdugo is at +0.7 WAR. Fitts was at +0.8 WAR in 15.2 innings going into tonight.
Fitts tiny sample, Verdugo not such a small sample. Either Cash is unlucky or he makes a lot off bad decisions.
Fitts has been extremely lucky with runners in scoring position in his short time in the league. I wasn’t impressed by him at all in his game against the Yankees, and his luck failed him tonight.
That’s why I said Fitts small sample, Verdugo large sample. I think he’s been the next to worse offensive left fielder since like June 1. Cash wanted him and helped Boston out by taking him off the payroll. If Fitts is decent it’s a double win for Boston, and a double loss for Cashman.
Ok, the zones not working, they’re a little too big to play man to man, and we can’t shoot for shit.
NOW he uses Poteet.
I’m not too bummed about Stroman sucking, but Beeter getting blasted sucks.
He’s got the name for it.
It’s tough when you only have like 2 1/2 good hitters to survive.
Even Poteet is getting hit now!
Play dead, Yankees, play dead. Good boy, good boy!
They better not bring anyone in. Let Poteet finish the game.
Verdugo since May 1 OPS 687-589-616-549-579. For the season Verdugo is dead last among all left fielders. And that’s who Cash wanted. And that’s whose salary Boston wanted to shred.
Cashman, the saboteur.
The Pholding Yankees.
Hal Steinbrenner rewarding incompetence.
Tribe wins. Magic numbers are sad.
I forgot about home field adavantage
And at least the upper minors are stacked. There’s The Martian and ???
Impressive AB by Stanton.
And the “much maligned Baltimore pen” shuts down the Yankees like 2005 Royals
Just in, Hal announces Eric Adams as new executive Vice President and special advisor to Hal Steinbrenner.
If they lose the next 4 and the Os win out and take the division will that get Boone fired? If so, I say go for it. If it gets cashman axed I’d pay the team money to do it.
Just start putting New York Judges on the unis.
AARON JUDGE
Judge!
At least that’s one former Yankee we don’t have to worry about making the Yankees look bad for cutting ties with.
Boy, it sure would have been smarter to have started the good Cory Poteet over the mediocre (and really bad when his rhythm is thrown off, which is why he would be a terrible relief pitcher) Marcus Stroman.
Or, in the alternative, had they just pulled Stroman after he allowed SIX HITS IN A ROW.
The Guardians finish the season with three against Houston, so that’s useful.
Up or down 6 the 2024 Yankees are as good as any past Yankee team.
With that homer, Judge matches the Babe’s Yankees/AL record for most homers across any two seasons (Ruth’s 59 in 1921 + 60 in 1927 = 119 total = Judge’s 62 in 2022 + 57 in 2024).
Agree completely with Brian on the failure to pull Stroman. This offense (or at least Soto and Judge) can actually score runs late in a game; it makes no sense to punt a whole game if you fall behind early.
“The compete and focus were there throughout. A lot of guys gave us competitive at bats,” (a lot of guys named Soto and Judge.)
Baltimore has 3 against Minnesota so theres our shot.
Katie Sharp: “There are 91 pitchers with 130+ IP this season.
Marcus Stroman now has the 4th-highest WHIP (1.47) and lowest K% (16.7%) in that group.”
Sevvy WHIP 1.282 k% 21.2 cost 5 million less than Stroman and one year fewer.
Another Cashman wise choice.
The Yankees and Sevy burned their bridges. Stroman was always a bad signing, outside of being an innings eater, which says lot about the Yankees pitching.
Verdugo and Stroman.

Thought question – if vertugo hit against Stroman what would happen? Boom my head just exploded.
Ok my answer – a 115 mph ground ball to second base.
