This is somehow the third time these two have faced off again each other this season. Fried has yet to win one of them, and I doubt it will happen today.
Bases loaded again, Yankees up 2-0. (Saturday game).
This is an acceptable beginning to this game.
Volpe could have done that, take a called strike three.
Then Wells takes a called strike three as well. Just awful.
The best they could do, a sac-fly and an infield single. They hate hitting w/RISP.
Not putting the ball in play with the bases loaded and one out is just not acceptable. He gets one past you, fair enough, but you HAVE to swing the bat.
Both hitters standing like a statue taking a called strike three.
Brian, you have it listed as a Friday game. Please change that, thanks.
They ALWAYS do that.
They need to prove they are manly men with manly batting eyes.
Protect the plate with two strikes? Beneath their dignity.
Fuck, again leading off with a walk. What’s going on?
Yankees refuse to have big innings. Wells swings at a ball then takes a strike. Cabby just misses a double.
This looks awful.
2 innings, 42 pitches.
Suboptimal.
That is why they have to use the bullpen so often in the 6th inning.
Over 40 pitches in the second inning. Seriously?
Trent OAA -1. Fielding run value 32 perecentile.
Okay, 1st and 3rd, no outs. How will they blow this?
Was Jazz trying to do that?
Volpe could do that.
Austin Wellz is not well. Number one Yankee disappointment 2025..
Wells, ugh.
Em-barrassing.
Binder made a good point.
What was it?
That with McMahon on deck Wells should be swinging 3-0. And as it turned out he got a good pitch to hit 3-0 but not 3-1. Maybe he had the green light and just chose not to swing.
I am not resigning Grisham.
Not off a career year.
The Blue Jays rallying in the bottom of the 9th.
EDIT: They tied it at 4-4. Back-to-back singles for the 2-runs.
29
Catchers interference, and the Blue Jays have the bases loaded with 1 out.
A sac-fly and the Blue Jays walk it off with 3 in the 9th.
What a relief
A lot less of a relief.
Should be resting out of baseball with Shoeless Joe, except that Shoeless Joe should be back IN baseball.
Disgraceful band box park
Really? Fried? Can’t he just be the total stopper?
Wellz with the hat trick.
Remember when Wellz was starting to hit? Last week 2-17, 118. It’s like with phenom, the good periods are always the outliers.
How many more pitches does Fried have in him? He’s at 104 now and looks done. Which bullpen muppet will blow this one?
Fried looked done, gives up another hit and a run. Is Boone bullpen shy now?
Yep and it’s hard to blame him.
What is up with Boone bringing Weaver in specifically for hitters who own him?!
When you give up hits to those guys.
Fried was less than good, better than mediocre. Throwing some 42 pitches in the first two innings was the problem.
Weavah!
Nice job by Weaver. Now score some runs.
Scoring runs was never going to happen.
Oh, Ben.
Rice’s 17th DP of the season.
Why not leave Weaver in? Its the 7th, not the 8th.
Seriously.
Because… Boone.
Whitlock has a 1.89 era and a 155 BAA vs the Yankees. How’s Brooks Kriske doing Cashman.
I’m down with not leaving Weaver in, I think they need to treat him like a bird.
But here’s Williams building up a reason to excuse his impending failure.
Ballplayers should be their own gardners.
Devin Williams kind of looks like Andrew Tate. Don’t care for it
But Clay Holmes had been very good for the Yankees.
Who gets the eighth?
Austin Wells has a chance to redeem himself.
EDIT: Instead, more awfulness ensues.
That was unlucky and now Wellz for the Golden Sombrero
The Yankees know how to pile up dreadful AB’s in one game. So many today. And multiples in several innings.
Our core two phenoms 1 and 2. The future is bleak. Even Volpe might’ve scratched out a ground ball. Wellz looked like he was closing his eyes and praying. CLUELESS.
Wells… ugh.
This is the stud player who was supposed be ROY last year, right?
He was ROY. Now, he’s a mediocrity to go along with Volpe.
Some bad luck and some putrid hitting. Remember Unwellz last September and October, that’s the real Unwellz..
BTW Cruz sucks. Should have gone Weaver, Devin, Bednar for the last 3.2
This could be painful
Could be?
Trash bullpen can’t help but giving up runs.
Cruz last 5.1ip 8h, 5bb
Belli! Tack on run off Chapman.
A tack-on run??
Be nice to see Chapman go on one of the negative rolls we experienced with him.
Really you’re going to bunt off Chapman with 2 out and a man on second.
Acceptable.
Yay, win.
“As not good as Camilo Doval and Jake Bird have been, that’s how as good David Bednar has.” — Tim McCarver in heaven
Mutts lose again, now 76-73. On the flip side, the Texas Rangers are heating up.
If they win tomorrow, will we agree that this was a successful run of key series?
11 baserunners in 5.1 innings by Fried.
Only two runs.
How lucky does THAT sound?
Obviously, it was mostly just luck, but smart pitchers like Fried really DO know how to battle better than dummies, ya know?
But yes, it was mostly just luck.
What’d I miss? Looks like some wins!
Ok who’s pitching in the WC series?
Fried, Rodon and ?
I think they need to turn another starter into a long reliever. Then along with Yarborough they barely have to use these crappy relief pitchers at all.
100% that’s what they’re going to do. Schlittler is the best suited for that role, but he might be too good to NOT just start outright.
Right now it’s Fried/Rodon/Gil in the rotation, I imagine.
Schlittler could be a weapon like David Price 2008.
Katie S Jazz Chisholm Jr in 162 games with Yankees:
40 HR, 48 SB, 70 BB
Chisholm is the only player in Yankees history to have ANY 162-game span with at least 40 HR, 40 SB and 70 BB.
Wow.
But I’m thinking that Mickey Mantle may have been better. Not 100% sure ha.
Off topic, but Anthony Rizzo, what a Mensch.
