Hopefully Jazz won’t need to go on the IL. EDITED TO ADD: Welp, he is going on the IL. He won’t do baseball activities for 7-10 days and they will reevalutate. Well, fuck. I guess the Anthony Volpe, second baseman era, will begin!
Sugano annoyingly pitches pretty well against the Yankees, and Warren can suck in any given game, so this one worries me.
Sonny Gray, eat your heart out.

That was pretty cool.

Has Volpe even been playing 2B?
I see he has been
He’s been a MLB second baseman for 3 years, just overshifted to the left side.
VJ, you’re stretching it a bit when you say “MLB,” I think 😉
My doctor advised stretching, to avoid the fate of Stanton and Grisham.
Has he even been playing baseball?
Katie S Over the past month (since Aug 9), there are 11 Yankees with 40+ PA.
Among those 11 players, Jazz ranks 1st in BA (.313), OBP (.398), OPS (.835), wOBA (.370), fWAR (1.0), SB (10)
That kind of production can only be replaced by Barry Bonds.
It may not have been the absolute worst of times, but no point in rubbing in that it hasn’t been the best of times.
So I guess he won’t get to 20/20. And certainly not 50/50.
He’ll just have to steal 10 more bases and hit 35 more homers in the playoffs. That would count, right?
It’s official Volpe up tomorrow. Only 21 games at 2B. Is that enough?
He played some in the lower minors too
There’s a guy in the bleachers with a Verdugo jersey. Why?
Could be Alex Verdugo. Think he had shoulder surgery this summer.
Well, this is a promising start against a guy who usually gets crushed in the first inning.
Cy Sugano strikes out the side.
And it only took 13 pitches.
The Blue Jays lose, the Bosox are losing.
Garcia y Vega
1253 OPS last 18 games.
The Rays get 3 in the 2nd.
I wa awaiting for a Judge head first slide.
Good time to break that streak!
A Lombard Jr. slam.
If you had Lombard hitting the Yankees first grand slam of the year. You won.
My money was on Hunter Goodman.
Lombard just needed Volpe to push him.
I was totally thinking the same thing
As long as Lombard doesn’t try too hard to be a power hitter, he’ll be fine.
The Yankees finally have a decent 1-5, and tomorrow they’re adding Barry Bonds.
Third time through the order?
Pretty much everyone but Cam is only good for twice through right now. So it may make sense to piggyback the four lesser starters in the playoffs, paired off as righty/lefty (Fried relieves Cole, Warren relieves Rodon) so as to deplete the opposing bench, and if the Yankees make it far enough into October where a fourth starter becomes necessary (ALCS, WS), then a fully-rested-bullpen game wouldn’t be totally tanking either.
WARREN!!
DON’T BE A JERK!
Garcia esta bien.
awesome play
SUCH a good play. How can that guy not be able to fake second base if Stanton returned?
If Stanton can fake health, I guess Garcia can fake middle infield.
Binder doing some RAMBLING about RBIs.
How did the Red Sox not claim this guy?!
That was one hell of a last pitch by Schreiber!
Awaiting the glorious return of Heliot Ramos, Defensive Replacement.
Guy hits grand slam goes first pitch swinging next two at bats.
Fulmer has got to learn how to throw strikes. If he can’t locate, he’s pretty much useless.
great win. i was so happy to see Judge get a hit. lots of other good stuff with the bats coming to life and actually playing d.
Bosox lose.
That’s an embarrassing loss.
From Katie S–
Warren in his last 5 games has allowed 6 ER in 24 innings. Not bad at all! Can he be trusted? Uhhhh….
Two times through the order. Like Cole, Rodon, and Fried.
