Not loving that their #5 hitter was just dropped into their lap like that. Meanwhile, the Yankees picked up shitty Paul Blackburn.
Thanks, too, to the schedule makers for making sure that the Red Sox always have a day off before their Yankee matchups so that they can properly set their rotation the way they want. Awesome. Top marks.
This is going to be one painful weekend of baseball. But hey, 2.5 games back with a month to go isn’t THAT bad, I guess.
Gil knows what he’s supposed to do, he is just too dumb to do it.
It’s like a death of a thousand cuts watching most Yankee starters execute.
Unbearable. Just throw your best pitch with two strikes and get OUT OF THE INNING.
They’re just so, so fucking stupid.
Pitch 2 a borderline strike per GD
Like, i get it, you don’t HAVE to throw strikes when you have two strikes, but the balls have to not be obvious balls, and you can’t let it get to 3-2 every hitter!
Is there a 1-10 chance we can split this series?
Not if Judge keeps looking like this.
Pitch count score after one: NYA losing 25 to 13.
And it so unnecessarily.
I blame the pitching coach for all these games, way too many, where the starter comes out and throws 25 or more pitches.
Oh, …what the hell just happened?
Please throw a potential strike 3 NOW.
Well, I guess that counts.
Are Yankee pitchers worse fielders than average?
Fried’s really good.
I remember some shockingly good plays by Rodon, but those could be exceptions.
That’s Jazz’s second terrible throw in 2 games on easy DPs. Maybe he’s thinking about his next home run.
Now he’s nowhere near the zone with anything?
FFS! Forty-one pitches and counting. What a mess.
Averaging over 20 pitches per inning is… an approach.
Pitch one was a strike.
Not the first pitch on which Gil’s been squeezed. And great timing for it.
Three walks, three errors, a bad throw, Boone has this team ready.
The pitching strategy: Don’t throw strikes. Always a successful strategy.
This is one splendid defensive inning.
Good to see they ‘ve saved their best for this crucial series.
Before last year this was Gil’s problem.
He’s not even CLOSE.
Also, Rice never should have tried a throw there.
All things considered, only allowing one run there seems like a sadly good thing.
Yerry de Los Santos could do this, Gil. I bet Allan fucking Winans could even do this.
With Judge in an ‘expand the strike zone till you drop’ rut, this offense is a mess. Stanton cannot keep up what he’s been doing.
Yankees have yet to show they can beat Boston or Toronto or Houston.
Kept that one fair.
Rice!
Fighting back the only way they know how. Hit 9 of them and you’ll have a chance!
That makes up for the throw, Rice.
Gil leading the ERA war for this game so far.
Third lowest OBP in the majors for phenom. Funny Kay never mentions that.
Swinging at balls four and five will do that.
He’s terrible. Boone and Cash won’t admit the obvious.
How much would Caballero have to be better than phenom to take the job? He’d probably have to be Bobby Witt good.
The crazy thing is that I believe they control Caballero for the same amount of time as Volpe!
Just use Yerry. When Gil doesn’t have it, he doesn’t have it. Cut your losses.
First pitch – swung at a ball.
Second pitch – took a strike.
4th pitch – grounds out on a pitch out of the zone.
2nd pitch to Belli was a gift, a ball way in the zone.
Balls 3 and 4 to Stanton, per GD, were both strikes.
Judge making it easy to get him out.
Ridiculously so.
Amazingly, Gil now has the better pitch count.
Did Bizarro Gil just show up this inning? Actually attacking shitty hitters?!
PGold Carew
Every time phenom gets on a run he regresses to worse than he was at the start of the run.
McMahon fit right in with this lineup. If your MiL organization can’t do at least as well, your MiL system sucks,
What a glass half Gil/half empty inning.
I love that he has to pitch to Goldy.
Gotta pinch hit Rosario if they stick with Wilson.
Rosario?
McMahon has hit Wilson well. But yes, should have used Rosario.
Classic ball four strikeout.
Doval here is so dumb.
Rosario is here because he has a positive bench presence? His ebullient personality keeps everyone optimistic?
Again, McMahon has hit Wilson in the past, but yes, I agree, why get these guys if Boone won’t use them?
As I was saying about McMahon.
Hamilton can’t hit anyone BUT the Yankees.
Doval is so fucking stupid.
They HAVE to pull him after he walks Narvaez.
Boone is the dumbest manager alive.
This is just a poor bullpen.
Who in the world keeps him in there?
There was a reason SF dumped this guy.
He’s a live arm with upside but he’s not going to ever get there.
Using him against the bottom of the order made some sense, but when the top of the order came up, they HAD to pull him.
I’m so glad the Yankees traded for Doval and Bird. Truly building a super bullpen cashman!
Leiter, dude, what the fuck are you doing?
Does Boone not know how bad Doval has been? 6.43 era, 1.856 WHIP.
I get trying to steal some outs against the bottom of the lineup, but you can’t let him face Anthony. Just awful managing.
What the fuck, blue?
They didn’t show a replay. Lol
Our pen sucks.
So does our GM.
I guess you use Leiter for Story, then bring Hill in for the lefties?
Do NOT understand Weaver here.
Other than a blowout I did not expect to see Doval this series, but you can never underestimate Boone’s stupidity.
It’s our fault for daring to think that they might not suck.
So leiter is now a pitcher who can only get 2 batters? After yesterday you’d think he’d try to not use Weaver.
As I’ve said again and again we are never winning with this idiot managing.
Using Weaver too early was dumb. Weaver just fucking sucking was unexpected, I’ll admit.
Them getting Lowe for nothing also pisses me off. “Oh, your first basemen are awful? Here ya go!”
Leiter for one batter, then Hill for the lefties was the obvious move. I didn’t think Weaver would suck, but it was still a really bad idea.
Yes, walk Cedeanne fucking Rafaela.
Fucking insanity.
Lefty up no hill?
Boone is just too slow to manage
Yes, walk David fucking Hamilton, too!
What a mess this team is.
This is just beyond crazy. This is beyond Boone being a shitty manager. This just can’t happen.
Does Cashman watch any of this? Oh sure, he’s the saboteur-in-chief.
So of course Hill comes in throwing balls.
Last 5 innings bullpen
1 run
3 runs
1 run
1 run
1 run
Very impressive. A foolish consistency.
Just one of you get on base so that Matz HAS to pitch to Goldy.
Rice with a triple.
Okay, Rice, you’ve made up for the error.
Please, Jazz.
Swing for the fences Jazz
Three big ugly cuts, Jazz!
Oh, Jazz, what the fuck was that swing, dude?
God, Jazz, you are so fucking dumb.
You gotta walk Goldy here, right?
Then bring in Whitlock for McMahon.
Nice job, Jazz. 💩
What fucking LOSERS.
Goldy popping up against a LEFTY is so fucking painful.
RISP Fail.
They’re 2-16 with RISP. We’re lucky it’s close. I just find it hard to imagine this squad winning a series from Boston, Toronto, Houston and maybe Seattle. As matter of fact Texas totally out played us last series.
They scored 19 runs in two games in Florida, all on HR’s. Today they had a bloop by Jazz earlier in the game for a run, placed in no man’s land.
I dunno, if the Yankees were 2-16 in RISP, we wouldn’t say, “They’re lucky that the Yankees are 2-16 in RISP,” we’d be saying the Yankees suck.
So it really looks like BOTH teams just suck. Their good relievers did okay, while the Yankees’ good reliever sucked, that’s the game right there.
Agree. They just look like the better team.
Bad fielding
Bad situational hitting
Bad baserunning
Bad bullpen management
But besides that this is a good team! Maybe the best in the AL
Boone should’ve never gone to Doval with his 6+ era and 1.9 WHIP as a Yankee. He should’ve used Rosario to hit forMcMahon with the bases loaded. Was he expecting a higher leverage situation? And McMahon had a piss poor AB..
Boone is stuck on stupid. And Cashman is stuck on Boone.
I assume Yerry will walk Gonzalez here.
McMahon’s OPS with the Yankees is Volpe-esque.
Jazz-like swing on that first pitch by McMahon.
Can they pinch hit Caballero here?
McMahon and Volpe, holy shit.
Four pitches, two outs. Make that 7 pitches, three outs.
Do the Yankees want to get back home to watch Peacemaker? They look like they want this game over QUICK.
Well, McMahon (with the Yankees) and Volpe sporting sub 700 OPS, so you get what they are.
He hit it well but I would’ve use the Martian or Wells there. phenom is hitting 189/647 against RHP. He should’ve never have been allowed to hit there.
I don’t know why they continue to pretend phenom doesn’t suck.
Delusion or sabotage, take your pick.
At least they’re keeping us from thinking they have a chance in the bottom of the ninth.
We didn’t have a chance. Boone was terrible, the team was worse.
The pitching coach needs to go, this bullpen mess is on him.
Yankees going weakly and meekly.
I won’t front, I sort of just want Stanton to make an out at this point.
Okay, so they were fucked no matter what. That’s somehow a bit easier to deal with.
I smell a 4-game sweep.
Yep.
Combined 4-13 ve Boston and Toronto. Bright future.
They are cowardly. While the pitching coach has presided over a bullpen that has been terrible for months now.
Jazz 206 RISP, 180 RISP 2 out. phenom 193/125.
They’re the type of guys who maybe you can have one in the lineup at a time if the rest of the team doesn’t stink with RISP.
It sure is pathetic how much they choke on primetime.
There’s some choking and more they’re not that good. Devin and probably Doval are chokers. Jazz, McMahon and phenom are not good. Jazz has talent but he doesn’t know how to use it. McMahon and phenom are what you see.
With all that, it is the bullpen which has crushed them so many times.
Boone used Weaver oddly tonight (and I would say outright WRONGLY), but Weaver outright SUCKING was bonkers. No one could expect THAT.
Jazz’s strikeout was pathetic, but the guy was pretty much directly responsible for two/thirds of their runs tonight, so I don’t think he needs to be painted with the same brush as McMahon and Volpe, who were both outright pathetic tonight.
One was a lucky pop up. He’s better than phenom and McMahon but he’s underperforming his talent.
Boone on Doval “stuff’s really good. Not quite as when he’s at his best.”
Katie S Before tonight, the last time the Yankees committed 4+ errors and walked 9+ batters in a 9-inning game at HOME was ….
May 11, 1912 one month after the Titanic sunk.
